I remember this song, even though I was only 4 at the time. My sister had bought the record and we used to play it. But to be honest, I always preferrred the B-side "See How They Run" - Can anybody post it on here??
I was born in 1949 and I clearly remember that "Attack" was the follow-up to "A Lover's Concerto". "A Lover's Concerto" became a number 1 hit for the Toys in the fall of 1965. "Attack" did not reach the top 10 in early 1966. It might have done better if only the lyrics could be understood. The lead singer, Barbara Harris, had atrocious diction.
I agree about the lyrics not being understandable -- I've listened to this song so many times and still can't make out half of them. But it's a great song nonetheless.
FIRST VERSE: Once I walked beside you So in love were we then It had always been that way Since we were children Then one day she saw you Lied and flirted for you Helplessly I watched her take your love away When she`s not with you She cheats and she enjoys two How can I sit by and cry While she destroys you? Though you may not want me My heart keeps repeating Onward, onward, time to stop retreating...
SECOND VERSE: Once I gave to you My love in sweet surrender But when you are in her arms you can`t remember. What am I to-oo do? You say to me you love her But for me no other boy compares to you. All the dreams we shared Are they to end in sorrow? Shall I tell my heart There`s no hope for tomorrow? Like a drum that`s beating My heart keeps repeating Onward, onward, time to stop retreating...
What verse isn't correct? If you're referring to the second verse, it is NOT even heard in this edited video version of the song which barely runs a couple of minutes, whereas, the time on the original recording is a bit over three minutes. My information sources were two song lyric Web sites, and the words provided were identical on both. Instead of me trying again, why don't you come up with what YOU think are the song's correct lyrics?
that's because most oldies stations are too lazy to do the minimal research required to allow them to play anything but the same 200 records over and over and over again! There are a lot of gems like this one that are overlooked everywhere EXCEPT Youtube (and our hearts :)
@BernardProfitendieu yeah dude - its a pity how much great music is just forgotten because the people that loved and created it die with it because most people these days dont seem to be interested in looking for it or even care it existed because it was made so long ago which is strange because with the internet its relatively easy. there was SO MUCH quality music that was being made 50-60 years ago in the spectrum of pop music that is so god dam good i hope it never dies. pop today is drivel.
btw/ The Movie was called Its a Bikini World LOL someone goofed

I was born in 1952. I'm pretty sure this tune came out before their big hit "Lovers' Concerto." I also think "Attack" is a way better record.

CHORUS:
Attack! Attack!
Save the love we vowed would live forever
Attack! Attack!
She wants me to run but I shall never
For all is fair in love and war
Your tender love I`ll fight her for

THIRD VERSE:
Night shall find me praying
God shall find me weeping
Till your loving heart
Again is in my keeping.
No, she can not have you
Not while my heart`s beating
Onward, onward, time to stop retreating...
CHORUS

At 1:06 June appears afraid. Did a film crew member trip over a sound cable? I
guess we will never know...Great lost song though. Enjoy.

I noticed that too. Seems she's looking at Barbara, the other BG singer.

Truth spoken, those stations just play the
rotation of stale white bread, mindless(safe) genre: Elton, Divas, hits of Eagles,
songs added to commercial success films-just hum along, airheads... The loops of Department store muzak are now
about equal in content to oldies radio; an
annoyance. "Tiny Dancer" signals time to
use the Exit door, cancel any purchase.
