that was one hand that phillips played badly.his only move was all in or fold preflop bcuz he was gonna play the hand out of position after demidovs 4bet. he had to lay it down or move all in.call was the worst option
The decisions these players make are based on more than the cards you see on your screens you morons. You do not see everything that happens, you only have a rough idea of table image and ultimately you are not sat down playing so you cannot say for certain that something was a mistake.
All u guys are commenting by seeing all of their hole cards on video .... but the real plyers dunno a thing about the other guys hole cards ...... and its not fair to criticize them !!! after all they are they were the nine best men in business ... atleast for 2008 !!
Anyone else get alot of distortion on these videos? It's driving me crazy, screen goes all wonky colours and squares like my ancient VCR did when it needed it's heads cleaned.
i could do without all these extra features on the players, but the production value of the tournament coverage makes up for it... and at least they dont do those table side intrviews, like in the cash games. i HATE that.
I would spot the Phillips moved all in after Re-raise Demidov. In my opinion, made a mistake by going only to a fairly large pot with AK. So I say, I'd ventured and let happen what he wants. Besides good bluff ;]
@deathmetalhead9 Agreed. If Philips thought his AK wasnt good preflop, and with that board, any high pocket is way behind... The mistake was on preflop, either all in or fold, or in Philips situation, getting outplayed
I think making them go through months of bullshit takes them out of the zone they were in to begin with. It changes everything and compounds the stress.
phillips didnt think things through with ak vs aq. it was either All in or fold. horrible flat call. more than half the stack gone on 1 hand. absolutely horrible
how can anyone here accurately judge any of these guys play, they got there thru a huge field and play on instinct and knowing situations until you learn to understand the skill involved dont bother judging just enjoy.
This is the problem with amateurs getting "coaching". Phillips got scammed. I don't know who coached him, but all we see is Phillips trying to make plays he isn't capable of. (pot sized c-betting is an uneccesary waste of chips, limp/3-bet/call/bet/fold is a terrible line w/ AK against the only guy who can bust you)
They way he was playing before the break was winning for him, he had a shot at this thing for sure, his asshole "coach" ruined his chances imo. We may see similar things this year.
its pretty obvious really, he made a mistake but everyone does. he eiher goes with ak or doesnt. tricky hand to play and the way demidov bet it u had to think he was on aa or kk. played it very well.
Do you love playing POKER for fun and want to make some extra money then go to w w w. f u l l t i l t p o k e r . c o m to register and type poker956 on the referral code for an extra bonus.
i think that after demidov put the 4th bet phillips had to either go all in or fold if he puts demidov on AA or KK.Calling was a bad option cause if he misses the flop he has to fold even if he has the best hand
lol phillips really thought that he could outplay demidov with his ace high. no offence but dennis is just some average player that got good cards. he was too much overhyped by the media. that wasn't good for him.
everyone saying that the phillips hand was badly played: some players dont like to risk their entire tournaments on a coinflip. if you want to flip coins grab a quarter and go outside. if you want to play poker then see a goddamn flop. all in preflop = sign of the donk.
This is a final table, this is applying pressure. Final table is about stealing blinds and antes to survive, the stack size and blind ratio is a lot different to early tournament play.
You´ve misunderstood poker, it´s about making money, not: "seeing the goddamn flop"!
Demidov and the other guy read Phillips perfectly, he is a coward that needs to have an edge, go all-in and he loses his edge and folds like a loser with the best hand
and see it run into AA or KK? if you were the chip leader, would you ship your stack after you were 4 bet with 9 million on the line? i wouldnt. that said, pushing is an option, although not the wisest one bc with the way the hand played out it was much more likely that demidov either had AK also or KK, AA
I thought the same thing, don't want to fold all your chips away and I think Dem would have broke and folded. If not probably would have lost the hand. At that point you have to be willing to call all in.
Yeah ak is a terrible hand to call a big raise with. If you think youre against kings or aces, fold. If you think not, push. At least keep the pot small. He did everything wrong with that hand, apart from the first raise.
Brilliant all in by Demidov. I think his logic is when Phillips calls him pre flop. Philips would have gone all in with AA or KK, and prob even QQ, and wouldnt have played a jack. So he puts him on AK, AQ, and makes a ballsy move.
FT was Nov 9th. Final 2 was Nov 10th. It was broadcast on Nov 11th. The event started way late in the day..i mean way late (like 10 pm CST or something crazy late..not sure why so late and lasted through the night).. i listened to it live on the internet
he actually isn't. He just misplayed AK preflop. Players make mistake, especially if they don't have a lot of experience. The fold after the flop wasn't bad given the way demidov played the hand.
Sorry, he also made a silly bet on the flop. I listened to this live and the final table hadn't been going that long and he had just lost some chips to Ylon and was clearly a bit rattled.
No, re-raising is not the problem. The problem is that he was re-re-raised and he just called. The really issue is calling with AK. He should have either pushed all-in at that point or folded.
Thats why i dont like to call AK, other than AA KK your at worst 50/50. I prefer to push at the start, that way your commited and dont get pushed out after the flop.
was going to say the same, depends on where though, ivan couldve had an AK semibluffin or overpair, you are always unsure with a missed AK, cause he doesn't make the allin pre, you will have to do, but you don't want to, then you miss the flop
How can a final tabler at the WSOP Main Event describe his first action as a 'raise'? I mean, somebody from the WSOP should have taken him to one side and said, for fuck sake you donkey, the first action is a 'bet'. It makes a fucking mockery of the whole show.
demidov played the whole hand like he had pket AA or KK! he got a good read of phillips because he just limped to the pot so if u limped u dnt have a pair but when he reraise demidov demidov knew that he got a potencial A and demidov just have AQ so nice move to reraise again! and when he saw the flop no A or K and just straight cards and phillips raise to protect his cards he move all inn and phillips is not gona risk his tournament on a draw! nice move by demidov
Phillips should of just flat called Demidov's inital raise and played it from there. Or folded or pushed after Demidov four betted it. Never just flat call a four bet, you're either folding or pushing, not calling.
of course he should push allin preflop, but it's the final table of the wsop. And you don't wanna start chipleader and leave first. I guess I would have been nervous too and played it like that or another stupid way.
anyone saying auto ALL IN for phillips is an idiot.. He could of easily been up against KK even AA in that spot because Demidov played his AQ so strong.
Phillips only mistake was limping under the gun. If he'd of raised initially Demedov might not have been so aggressive after the flop because Phillips could have easilyl had pocket 10's or J's.
Damidov is a monster..

If not, it's an ALL-IN because you're allowing your opponent to outplay you after the flop (which is exactly what happened).

Yep exactly. Played AK bad.

I hope this isn't a dumb question but can the rail see the players whole cards or not?
Peteysweety 3 years ago

krispyrice1 2 years ago

wow. fold ak against amauter. terrible fold though.

I think Phillips starts to agressive, if he has the AKs from Demidov against Schwartz he has pushed all in after the turn...
egal2000 3 years ago
phillips could have noticed the bluff
look at demidov's eyes at 2:07 - 2:09

omg, he had his eyes closed, does that automatically mean that someone is bluffing to you?
laejnuss 2 years ago
phillips should of went all in preflop after demidov raised to 8 mill.
morleyrox 3 years ago
I had exactly the same thinking^^
Nuklearsocken 3 years ago
or he should have folded
thepurplemann 3 years ago 2
No, cause he must be afraid of AA or KK, i think he should only call Demidov's first raise, and not reraise him...
egal2000 3 years ago
yes, very true. You don't want to lose at a final table so early with AK against AA

If Eastgate sucks, Demidove could only sip.
Demi should go on "Striptease".

Thats why i dont like to call AK, other than AA KK your at worst 50/50. I prefer to push at the start, that way your commited and dont get pushed out after the flop.
emelianenkoo 3 years ago
was going to say the same, depends on where though, ivan couldve had an AK semibluffin or overpair, you are always unsure with a missed AK, cause he doesn't make the allin pre, you will have to do, but you don't want to, then you miss the flop

How can a final tabler at the WSOP Main Event describe his first action as a 'raise'? I mean, somebody from the WSOP should have taken him to one side and said, for fuck sake you donkey, the first action is a 'bet'. It makes a fucking mockery of the whole show.

Easily, he was taking on the one guy at the table who could take him out and he was Nervous as hell.
colvo115 3 years ago
demidov played the whole hand like he had pket AA or KK! he got a good read of phillips because he just limped to the pot so if u limped u dnt have a pair but when he reraise demidov demidov knew that he got a potencial A and demidov just have AQ so nice move to reraise again! and when he saw the flop no A or K and just straight cards and phillips raise to protect his cards he move all inn and phillips is not gona risk his tournament on a draw! nice move by demidov

lol at the high 5/fist pound combo of kim and chino. Like some weird game of rock, paper scissors
imtiazdun 3 years ago
Phillips should of just flat called Demidov's inital raise and played it from there. Or folded or pushed after Demidov four betted it. Never just flat call a four bet, you're either folding or pushing, not calling.
colvo115 3 years ago
of course he should push allin preflop, but it's the final table of the wsop. And you don't wanna start chipleader and leave first. I guess I would have been nervous too and played it like that or another stupid way.
SkaSlappy 3 years ago 2
This guy was in way over his head. He didn't have a clue. How he made it to the final table only Jamie Gold or Jerry Yang will know.

Standard horrific poker at the WSOP. This is why HSP is the only poker worth watching.

Not true. Interview with the head of programming at ESPN a week ago says it is very much alive and should be on our screens in the next month or so.

anyone saying auto ALL IN for phillips is an idiot.. He could of easily been up against KK even AA in that spot because Demidov played his AQ so strong.
Phillips only mistake was limping under the gun. If he'd of raised initially Demedov might not have been so aggressive after the flop because Phillips could have easilyl had pocket 10's or J's.

I think that early hit hurt his psyche a little bit. But at least he didn't crash too hard like Philip Hilm.
