Really, we should make it unappealing to be a politician. You should make a living, but not three or four times the national average. You should not be allowed to own property. You should be provided the necessities, with perhaps a few luxuries, but nothing enticing enough to make anyone want to do it for anything other that pure desire for truth. So we all win. The people spend significantly less on mortgages. The government receives more to distribute and run a healthy country. The only people who lose are the bankers. And lets face it, they are not really people at all. They are vampires, sucking the blood out of our society. There are other problems to be addressed, but I believe that after removing campaign contributions, this is the most important step.That is, until the gold souls are allowed to rule again.
Think about it. One simple step could change almost everything. Nationalizing the banks. The Canadian government spends roughly $165,000,000 on interest to chartered banks. If the government used the bank of Canada for currency production, you eliminate about $60,000,000,000 a year in government spending. Next, mortgages come from the government. At 1% or 2%. That creates a cash flow into the government so that they can put it towards infrastructure, social programs, etc etc.
I personally believe that a mixture of socialism and capitalism are what we need. Nationalization of the banks, for one. Removing campaign contributions. Nationalizing power, gas, oil, water, sewage. Harsher punishments for white collar crimes. These are obvious solutions to what politicians want us to believe is a complicated problem that often only be solved through "Austerity", which means you have to pay more tax, and receive less government spending.
I was really on board with Zeitgeist for a long time, but after years of mulling over it, discussing, joining the "Zeitgeist" local chapter (or at least attending some meetings) I have come to the conclusion that this is a pipe dream, and not realistic whatsoever. Competition drives people. All of the technology needed to make this "Venus Project" a reality were born from capitalism. But capitalism inherently creates an ever growing gap between the rich and the poor. So what is the answer?

what I can't understand is how a capitalist system creates scarcity to sell its product. This is not the case, unless you are the sole owner of that product. I suspect that if there were universal access to education (everyone can take whatever classes they want, everyone has internet access, everyone can access online copies of books rather than physical ones that can only be in one place at once) and complete autonomy to do almost anything we want, people would want to do a lot more than sit around and eat all day.

It only means we no longer need workers but engeneers and the more robots we have and more robot factories we have the more we need engeneer. You fail to understand that money is used to identify scarcity. Real scarcity *does* exist, and it is not all fabricated. Without a "price signal" on capital goods, soon your capital stock of goods becomes out of sync with the economic needs, and over/under production results. As in 20th Century communist experiments.

It takes labor to build and create everything so how will the labor be rewarded during the building prosess of an idealistic society? How will they feed thier family if they work for free?
Would only work if everyone or most of the people in that system were generous, They must have a lot of faith in mankind. While there are plenty of genuine people who would contribute and benefit from this system, many wouldn;t. Also how would you distribute the resources? Does everyone have access to the same amount, i'm sure there would be too many problems with this. I think it would be better to design a less corrupt monetary system.
@porkinmycorkhole It isnt necessary that everyone/most people are generous in order for this system to work. Even if people arent generous, this system would be beneficial to themselves. Resources are distributed through an automated industrial complex, and provided to the consumer on demand. Everyone has access to whatever is available, which would be a lot, and everything they need, which wont be as much due to the absence of planned obsolescence and cyclical consumption taking place today.
I can't see how this psuedo-utopic vision they have can work. Sure, no paid jobs, just slavery, plebian, technology & engineering classes. @Jeorney It isnt utopic at all. One of the fundamental aspects of this society is that it is perpetually developing. Also, no paid jobs doesnt always = enslavement. In an RBE, it = the exact opposite; emancipation. There are no classes. Look more into it, and you'll get what I mean. Really, we should make it unappealing to be a politician. You should make a living, but not three or four times the national average. You should not be allowed to own property. You should be provided the necessities, with perhaps a few luxuries, but nothing enticing enough to make anyone want to do it for anything other that pure desire for truth. So we all win. The people spend significantly less on mortgages. The government receives more to distribute and run a healthy country. The only people who lose are the bankers. And lets face it, they are not really people at all. They are vampires, sucking the blood out of our society. There are other problems to be addressed, but I believe that after removing campaign contributions, this is the most important step.That is, until the gold souls are allowed to rule again.

Think about it. One simple step could change almost everything. Nationalizing the banks. The Canadian government spends roughly $165,000,000 on interest to chartered banks. If the government used the bank of Canada for currency production, you eliminate about $60,000,000,000 a year in government spending. Next, mortgages come from the government. At 1% or 2%. That creates a cash flow into the government so that they can put it towards infrastructure, social programs, etc etc.

I personally believe that a mixture of socialism and capitalism are what we need. Nationalization of the banks, for one. Removing campaign contributions. Nationalizing power, gas, oil, water, sewage. Harsher punishments for white collar crimes. These are obvious solutions to what politicians want us to believe is a complicated problem that often only be solved through "Austerity", which means you have to pay more tax, and receive less government spending.

I was really on board with Zeitgeist for a long time, but after years of mulling over it, discussing, joining the "Zeitgeist" local chapter (or at least attending some meetings) I have come to the conclusion that this is a pipe dream, and not realistic whatsoever. Competition drives people. All of the technology needed to make this "Venus Project" a reality were born from capitalism. But capitalism inherently creates an ever growing gap between the rich and the poor. So what is the answer?

I suspect that if there were universal access to education (everyone can take whatever classes they want, everyone has internet access, everyone can access online copies of books rather than physical ones that can only be in one place at once) and complete autonomy to do almost anything we want, people would want to do a lot more than sit around and eat all day.

Even if It sounds good, its impossible to change the current system because of racial and political divide between countries. For this to happen everyone and every country must work together and we know that is impossible cause every country's politician only cares about its own welfare. Only way is if almost everyone in the world died and only a few survived to change the world collectively.

In order to become utopian and closed-system, this would require the rich to lose all of their assets in order to free the debt they have over the poor debtors that are unable to pay for it. Not to mention that it would create laziness, and NO ONE would want to spend hours of labor to create the society...they would feel they "deserved" more than those that didn't help. The start of greed.

All monetary (cost) restrictions on renewable energy should be ignored, and all such things built - the cost would be recovered...
Of course, if every country had renewable energy, that would remove their dependence on countries that provide such energy, and who controls the energy controls the globe.
Undermining such restricted energy supplies therefore undermines the current political climate.

The point of these movies is to open up a dialogue and get the ball rolling, not to be some definitive statement on why he's right and your wrong or some such nonsense that doesn't solve anything. @Colt2571 it's funny you say that, i often found the same thing when trying to show this movie to some of my friends, they seem to have some predisposition towards me, and because its a movie i'm advocating, they kinda see it as my thing. which prevents them from being able to see it as theirs. and instead of questioning certain aspects for themselves, they ask me about it. if i fail to come up with an answer there and then, they assume the answer doesn't exist! the transition will be tough.

Just because we build a robot doesnt mean people lose jobs. It only means we no longer need workers but engeneers and the more robots we have and more robot factories we have the more we need engeneer. So simply speaking we need educations that teaches people to learn and re-educate them selfs so they can learn to be not workers, but engeneers. Thus technology will never makes us free from work. It will only transform society as it is.

You fail to understand that money is used to identify scarcity. Real scarcity *does* exist, and it is not all fabricated. Without a "price signal" on capital goods, soon your capital stock of goods becomes out of sync with the economic needs, and over/under production results. As in 20th Century communist experiments.
Venus sounds cool, but it looks like re-branded communism and the leisure society. Go read Marx a lot of these ideas are not new. You are right about the debt based currency.

Would only work if everyone or most of the people in that system were generous, They must have a lot of faith in mankind. While there are plenty of genuine people who would contribute and benefit from this system, many wouldn;t. Also how would you distribute the resources? Does everyone have access to the same amount, i'm sure there would be too many problems with this. I think it would be better to design a less corrupt monetary system.

@porkinmycorkhole It isnt necessary that everyone/most people are generous in order for this system to work. Even if people arent generous, this system would be beneficial to themselves. Resources are distributed through an automated industrial complex, and provided to the consumer on demand. Everyone has access to whatever is available, which would be a lot, and everything they need, which wont be as much due to the absence of planned obsolescence and cyclical consumption taking place today.

I can't see how this psuedo-utopic vision they have can work. Sure, no paid jobs, just slavery, plebian, technology & engineering classes. @Jeorney It isnt utopic at all. One of the fundamental aspects of this society is that it is perpetually developing. Also, no paid jobs doesnt always = enslavement. In an RBE, it = the exact opposite; emancipation. There are no classes. Look more into it, and you'll get what I mean. The movie is called Addendum because it is added upon the first movie, so it is both artistic and literal in meaning. Well, I find it artistic... you might disagree. Doesnt matter much, though.
