This story is classic. Its nice to see that pretty much nothing has changed about it over the years in its various incarnations. The only thing is that I never get why the Kryptonians ignored the warnings.Youd think a race with such advanced technology would have seen this coming years before.
Despite what anyone says about Kirk Alyn's portrayal of Superman, He was the first to ever play the character on screen, the original Superman, the original Clark Kent.
Not everyone liked Mr.Kirk Alyn's onscreen interpretation of"Clark Kent"..the narrator of the"Superman"TV Tribute..Mr.Kevin Spacey called Mr.Alyn's"alter ego as"A very mild mannered Clark Kent".Despite this knock I enjoyed Mr.Alyn's portrayails as"Clark Kent & Superman".
Once youtube had this documentary on how things use to work during the times of KIRK ALYN SUPERMAN SERIAL what technique they used and casting. now I tried searching for it again and again but seems like its removed can anyone upload it?
I saw the serial when it first appeared in theaters, in my case at the Victory Theater in Wellston, Missouri. Was 8 years old. We were enthralled! Only now do I notice how bare the sets were, how simple-and-cheap-as-possible everything else (including the casting) was and the fact Jor-El has a British accent. We didn't care, We loved it.
This wasn't a "show", Jason- this was the first of 15 chapters of a theatrical movie serial, released in January 1948. Kirk Alyn (uncredited, except on movie posters promoting the serial) was the first actor to appear as "Superman" in the movies. He was later offered the role again for the TV series, but declined. George Reeves, who appeared in another Columbia serial in 1949-'50, took the part. When Phyllis Coates was unable to return as "Lois" for season two of the TV show, Noel replaced her.
@fromthesidelines Coates was supposed to have her own tv series what was that going to be lois lane investigative reporter for a great metropolitan womans liberation magazine she pops up in black saddle

1:46 the narrator makes a mistake when he states that krypton boasts a race of supemen and women superman only has super powers when he is on earth because the earth has a yellow sun krypton a red sun in one comic superman makes a mistake and goes to a planet that has a red sun and loses his superpowers and has to fight kang a bully that steals his fruit
@spacepatrolman Actually, the original superman had his powers given to him by his lineage with the kryptonians. The idea was that they were way ahead in the evolutionary chain of things. This was changed of course to kryptons gravity however later on. There have been a few explanations for his powers, but around the time this was conceived id imagine that that was accepted as canon.
Nice theme music
