@mmaguii that may be true, although the action in this is very reminiscent of Lana, who was very supportive of the war effort... I'm sure ol' Tex studied all the great pin ups of the era & came up with this red headed super-ella, lady evening starlet/rosie the riveter
@sangeliastorck Yeah & the Irony about today is that Natural curves & beauty R shunned & made fun of while Artificial beauty (plastic surgeries) r encouraged
@KUirEE I remember the comments made about Marilyn Monroe. if she was still alive. hollywood and the media would be calling her "Fatlegs" for how her legs look as well as Fatwoman for not being a 39-20-35 and not a size 1 for clothing. in her time it was normal for a gal to be a size 8. what is now a size 10 since they redid the sizing.
@LadyTwentySeven Look at the date of when this was made. Tenish years before Marilyn really was popular. One thing I know for sure Red/Cindy was inspired by Betty Grable the pin-up/actress particularly her hairdo. In Red Hot Riding Hood her speaking voice mimics Katherine Hepburn (not related to Audrey) while in this she sounds like Bette Davis. In Dan Magoo she sounds like Mae West. One thing for sure Jessica Rabbit in Who Framed Roger rabbit is an homage to Red.
@TheDarkhollowteme Same here!! I never thought it was suggestive or anything. I just sat there, a cute little 5 year old, jamming out thinking how pretty and cool she was. I pretty much treated her like any Disney princess. XD
Ha, somebody below me is waxing nostalgic about Cartoon Network. I was watching this before there was cable. In fact, I'm still content with just free air TV (at least, pay TV ain't worth what they charge).
Eek, kind of a creepy ending there for our poor heroine! I wonder if that's what it was like for the girls entering the War Workforce back then? All the guys that couldn't go or hadn't been drafted acting all Wolfish to the temporarily single ladies...
While Tex Avery deserves a lot of praise for his wild imagination, special praise should go to Preston Blair, who animated "Red" the sexy girl that makes the wolf go nuts! I still have Preston Blair's How to Draw Animation books vol 1 and 2 and according to Leonard Maltin Blair animated "Red" from his memory and imagination! His books have inspired generations of animaters and I love Hycinth Hippo that he animated in Fantasia! R.I.P. Preston Blair!
i think this one is based off of both Red Riding Hood AND the southern girl, in that one episode when the country and city wolf switch places, they have the EXACT same clothes and hair when her car turns into a pumpkin, and seems to change back into Red Riding Hood when she gets on the bus for work.
At first, I used to think that the Wolf took the hammer from the Fairy Godmother (since it was shown real fast), but if you pause at 2:17, you'll find that the wolf had his own hammer the entire time. He could have used it from the beginning and got to Cinderella.
I think the song should have been in red hot riding hood, since that was little red riding hood and the wolf, and here its cinderella and there is no wolf in that story....eh ah well its still an awesome cartoon I wish they were still on tv now, but you know, some overly protective parent would complain lol
@eljan81 Acme Hour was the BEST mix I definitly agree with you on that one. Sometimes I watched it just for the Tex Avery cartoons because that's the only place they were found (before youtube).
@PeytonMarieThompson You're looking at it as too litteral of a translation. A wolf was a term in the 30's and 40's who would be called a sexist today. It's where "wolf whistle" came from. That said, this and all the Tex Avery "Droopy" are my favorites.
I think "sexist" is the wrong word to use for a wolf. The terms "girl crazy", "sex crazed", or "sex mad" would be closer. Sexism is a form of discrimination and a man can have constant thoughts of sex on his mind without being discriminatory against women. A man can treat a woman quite well, in fact, when in pursuit of sex.
@alixinthemiddle which is why these Droopy episodes isn't shown anymore (at least not these episodes) - now the droopy episodes that are shown, are a totally new animation - these are in the episodes of ' Tom and Jerry Kids' or at least from Tom and Jerry kids show. All these old ones with a sex appeal have stopped.
@alixinthemiddle I recall reading somewhere that when he designed these scenes, Tex Avery intended for the wolf's reactions to her to mimic a certain part of the male anatomy during arousal
