Smallville fans world wide are superman fans, looking back at the series Tom was the best choice and the movie needs needs him in it. It will bring closure to all the fans who watched Tom and the Smallville storyline grow over the past decade. Superman Returns was ok....but was in no way as successful or legendary as the original movie. By putting Tom it will be restoring the legacy....I guarantee....there is already a legendary feeling to Smallville when you watch from Season 1.

And now that a reboot is underway, the new director said Brandon will not be cast as Superman. Maybe now Tom will rethink if he is offered the part of Superman. However, being it's a reboot, it will effect Smallville as if that show never happend. Can we live with that? I might, but they'd atlease need to keep Erica as Lois. Everyone else can be replaced.

I think the reason why Tom didn't do Superman Retruns is because then he'd have to leave Smallville. I don't think he's worryed about typecasting, being he's directing and producing now. From his words, " If I did it, then there could be no more Smallville... And who wants that? " And being that Brandon Routh only made 500 K for his roll of Superman, it's not suprising others would turn it down.

Its should be Tom. 10 years later and hes stilll the Superman we see on screen, and Tom was asked to play the role in Superman Returns but that would have ment the end of Smallville. Respect. Now that the show will be ending with Tom becoming Superman why not take him to the movies. They already have a fanbase around the world that sees him as Superman. i love Tom Welling, but if he were to play Superman in the movies, he needs to put on a lot more muscle. He's a big guy, but just solid and not very muscular

i might be mistaken here but i thought i read when they were making superman returns that tom welling was asked to play the man of steel but john schnieder ( think i spelled that wrong ) told welling not to do it so he wouldnt get type cast because of how huge it is to play superman and may not be able to play anyone else , i think he needs a kick in the head for that one

I believe you're correct. Typecasting has always been the rumor but at this point with him playing the character for a decade, if it were to happen it would be inevitable. He seems to really like directing and producing now anyways, so who knows. He might now be that worries about it now.

@Kevinc2828 Your very mistaken. When Brett Ratner was going to make a Superman film, Tom Welling was approched. However, when Bryan Singer made Superman Returns (and Ratner took over Singer in the X-Men trilogy), he felt strongly that the actor should be an unknown.

as much as i would love tom to play superman i can't picture him in the tights for some reason but i so love him as clark kent on smallville, i couldn't imagine anyone else playing this role accept him, loving the superman art work with his face though and erica plays the best lois lane ever in my opinion

Honestly, I think it'd only be a good idea if Smallville were to end before then, because if they hear Welling is in as Superman, and then they see that Smallville is still ongoing, it'll confuse and pull them away. But whether he's ever in a movie or not, or whether he wears the suit or not, he's the best Superman to date.

Welling would be the best Superman since christopher Reeve. Smallville was a great beginning but after it he could take the Superman legend to a higher level.

I guess Smallville will end after Clark starts in a cool new designed Superman suit in the sky. And I hope Smallville will become a big Spin-off for the real Superman stories after it.^^
