1 thing i dont get is why you reversed it twice... iv used this effect before but only to build up to new sections like a long preverb effect... I took the audio bussed it to another track (100% wet reverb) and moved it so it lead into the bar i was building up to.. Surely by reversin it twice it would be the same as the original audio??
@LeForceVideos I should have formulated it differently, that is what I meant. Effects just like strip silence and speed changing. A plugin is indeed a different thing.
@drewpearsonmusic which would be possible in post, of course not live :P You hear it so often in for example Ozzy Osbourne songs, you would think that there is a plugin for it..
@rampagetv This effect is an old one. Ozzy Osbourne's engineers spooled the tape machine backwards, ran the backwards vocals through a reverb, and recorded the results. When they spooled the tape machine forwards again, they got reverb heads, preverb, or predelay. This technique is the same thing, achieved the same way, just digitally. For sure there is no plugin that can do this. Maybe a factory effect (like the reverse effect used in the tutorial) could process create a new audio file.
wow bro your amazing for this man, thanks so much! i definitely subscribed i hope to see more vids soon you gave me so much to play with now ima have to try this on different instruments and stuff i wonder how the druums sound with this fx well thanks again!
The second track that I'm supposed to record into isnt recording the audio. I'm using logic 9 and I think I'm doing the bussing steps incorrectly. After i hit record and stop there is no audio waveform. I think I'm doing somthing wrong with the input output bussing steps Drew showed us. Sombody help me out!!PLEAse
sounds like the audio isn't routed properly. make sure the OUTPUT of the vocal track is set to the same bus as the INPUT of the track you are recording onto. when you hit play you should be able to hear the audio and reverb and see the meter moving on the track you are recording into.
Thanks a lot for this tutorial, I've been trying to do this for a while. One question, when I reverse the region I want, it also reverses the same region in the original vocal track. How do I avoid that (I'm working in Express, if that matters)?
good question. anything you do in the audio editor window affects raw audio data on the drive, so you need to make a new audio file from the region you want to reverse. Region > new audio file from region.
sorry but i can't get opening the menu saw on 1:30.. it seems there is one dot on the lef high corner of the sample where you're clicking on..could you help me please..
That is the drop down menu of a "comp take" region. If your region doesn't have that there then it is a normal audio region and you can just skip to the next step.
This is good stuff. I would like a video on how to run Filters 'n Stuff. Even iPhone has a musicprogram with big fat obvious inviting sliders to get great effects directly. Logic has gone the opposite way with all the "important" buttons, the have schrinked them, as small as possible. I can't intuitively understand how to get sounds going. The ESX24 has a matrix-part in the middle of the synth that gets every thing going. I can't see, how does it work??
Wow, now I know to use a Compressor after Reverb, so I can extended the reverb tails. Cause in the past, as soon as I put reverb on a track the volume went down, so this is good info that I got from this tutorial, man. Keep up the good work.
By the way, the backwards vocals sound Middle Eastern. And when you put a lot of reverb on it, it sounded like something of the Gladiator soundtrack. :)
Man this is really Important and Informative techniques you are posting, love you for that!
would it be possible to have a tut on the basics of synths, (what are the differences between mono and poly, etc), something around the ares of camel audio or Rob Papens.
So agree with the comments here, well done drew,...thanks for the tips,......would love to hear more tips on what crazy fx can be done to vocals....shouts from the uk....peace Drew
How about doing a how-to on the Tools inside your "Tool Box?"
I am ashamed to say it - but I am yet to really utilize all the tools there are! Not because I don't know how - just because I haven't really found a need for them ... and ignorance!

I was looking for this, I thought there was a plugin or a setting I missed. Isn't this called preverb or predelay?
rampagetv 2 years ago
@rampagetv it can be called both, but there isn't a plugin that can do this. The plugin would have to look into the future :)
