Say, just a question.. And I'm not asking this to sound contriversial, hypo-critical or anything else. Its just a question that this video reminded me of:
Are priests allowed to voice their oppinions about the different parites running?I was tole they were not allowed to, and I just want to know if anyone can verify or deny this statement...
And no, father did not voice his oppinions about which party to vote for...So I'm not trying to start a huge argument...I just want to know the answer
NO, if your a christian you must vote for things that Christ would want. Sometimes the political agenda of an orthodox christian is left and right wing
Do you really think that Jesus Christ would have been accounted right-wing in his days? Does anyone think he was left-wing? Or wasn't he a friend of all people?
Anti-feminist? Do you think he was anti-female?
Anti-drug? Didn't he turn water into wine?
Strong military? That sounds more like Mohammed to me.
I am not sure how wise the words of the father is when he just make an ignorant generalization by saying that everyone who are apolitical don't know what's going on in politics. I am apolitical, I know everything about politics, I read the newspapers, I do a lot of political research but I don't vote and I don't directly get involve in politics or argue/hate on politics.
I think you may have taken Father's words the wrong way. What Father was talking about in this video was people that have a lack of knowledge as to what is happening in the political common wheel. He wasn't saying anything like "people who are apolitical are ignorant and have no idea about politics and how the country is run." He was (I think) more or less saying "If too many people don't take an active interest in politics, all of us are hurt and the democratic process itself is undermined."
I do know what the father is talking about but for him to define apolitical people as people who are not aware of what is going on in the political world is a futile generalization. All the examples that he used in his video to describe the concept of apolitical are people who had no clue of election last year and who don't know what's going on in the political world and are not interested in it. Anyway, to each his opinion
@ceb2008love I'm pretty sure his intent was to warn of the dangers of ignorance. I don't think he was trying to attack those who willfully participate in political abstinence.
In either case, he is correct about those dangers. It is one of the chief reasons America faces the economic crises that it does, and why the political realm is such a dirty sewage pit. There has been no accountability because there has been a stark absence of awareness.
Well said, Father. I would be interested to hear your thoughts about the appropriateness of religion in the public (political) sphere in a future video. (The Evangelical voters in 2004 election provide an interesting case in point)
I cannot really articulate my full opinion in this small comment, but essentially I think there is nothing wrong with voting based on your morals or values (be they religious or otherwise). I think there may be some problems if religious candidates start applying their personal religious beliefs to all people of the country in the form of legislation/revisions to the Constitution. Given Father Jeffrey many good videos, I'm sure he would do justice to this crucial issue in American society.
The reason that I chose to be apolitical it is because unlike what the father say I know what's going in politics and it is too damn dirty. I am curious about the world and I learn a lot about it.The people that the father refers in his videos are just the normal group of ignorant Americans who know nothing about their country and the world.
I agree with Father. There is too much ignorance when it comes to what is going is happening in the political realm.

If you're Christian you have to be right-wing. It's as simple as that.

"...things that Christ would want."
which is generally right-wing:
pro-life, small gov't, no gay marriage, anti-feminist, anti-drug, strong military, etc.

You can't box the views of Christ into categories like right-wing or left-wing.
Take Pope John Paul II for example: he was conservative on moral issues but quite liberal on many social issues.

And for the record, it sounds a lot like you are the antithesis of the types of people Father was talking about in the video!
