From my arachnophobe friend: I would never normally call a spider cute under any circumstances, but this is just so adorable it's criminal. Seriously, a spider shouldn't be that cute. Reality just got twisted.
I'm sick and tired of you halfwits hating fucking bugs, the only ones, I think, that you should get rid of is mosquitoes, roaches, fleas, ticks, flies, termites and bed bugs, all these other insects and arachnids like spiders, scorpions, praying mantises, cicadas and bumblebees just please love and respect! if you see a bug in your house just at least catch it carefully with a jar and put them outside, or keep them in the jar if you don't fell like going outside.
HaHaHa, how cool was that ? That's the first time a spider's made me laugh. I always catch the house spider's carefully and put them out, but that's because they are the size of a coin....not a hat !
Don't these guys live a really long time? I'd love to keep one but I think I'll get a safer pet, like an angry bear or perhaps a feral hog covered in chainsaws.
The disguise behind it's cuteness is that it pretends to already be dead as a ploy to get predators to not even bother with it. You know, play possum, only in the sandbox.....sandbox possum. :3
lol yes how cute, a tactic used to ambush and devour prey...it's like saying aww look at the cute little shark swimming deep below me for a perfect attack position :p
Oh my goodness, I thought it was on a towel and was just being stupid, then I realized these things can actually hide anywhere. *buries head in sand at such a scary thought.*
They are wonderful creatures. I cant say that they feel nice either. I have had spiders crawl out of the vents above my bed while sleeping and crawl on me. It was not fun.
Yeah yeah. Reeaaal cute. This lovely lady has necrotic venom similar to the brown recluse, but more potent. It's bites can cause large open wounds, gangrene, limb loss or death. It's adorably burying itself so it can get sick giddy little thrills by popping out of the sand and ruining the day of a hapless passer by.
@Skutieos7 Hey man, I love spiders. It's just that my love of horror supersedes my love of our misunderstood eight legged friends. Also, lets say I was hiding in the sand minding my own business and you came tromping in unexpected. Lets say I jump out of the sand and land a nasty bite on your hand. You'd probably be in better shape than if you had been bit by one of these guys. I mean, you'd probably be pretty shaken up and maybe need to wash your hand, but you probably wouldn't lose it.
@JeisonMylre when I said "humans can do worse damage" I meant as a species. We can create a nuclear bomb and kill millions instantly. On the other hand, this spider will not bite you if unprovoked.
@JeisonMylre Yes, a spider has so fucking much to gain from biting an organism a hundred times bigger than it. You think they bite humans for shits and giggles? You think they give a shit about us? Typical.
@Dan37064 Keeping it simple. Exoterra faunarium-box, and for the heat just a normal Megaman-7watt lamp. I think that roomtemp is fine, the lamp is just for display.
Amazing behavior, almost indicative of low intelligence. I know there have been experiments involving rabbits to test the potency of the venom, but I don't know if it was S. Terrosus or S. Hahni that were involved. I believe it's S. Hahni that is supposed to be the most venomous of the Sicaridae family.
To clarify, my comment wasn't born out of some arrogant notion that I or this broken race in general holds some position of grand rule over the earth because of our profound intellect, it was born out of giving a creature generally regarded as having zero intelligence a bit more respect in that regard. At the same time I don't necessarily disagree with your comment.
Doesn't seem to unlikely, as the venom, as with Loxoscles, is necrotic to tissue. Maybe they've figured some way to tame it so that it targets cancer cells.
One of the most interesting Inverts to study, but no fucking way would I have one lol These need to be on the DWA list here in the UK, unreal how its not! These spiders, although shy and reclusive and don't readily bite are dangerous, very dangerous! I do not encourage anyone to own these unless that person has massive experience and has the facility to contain them. Unlike other defensive, highly venomous spiders, the Sicarius Terrosus bite is fucking horrific! Disabled or Death! No messing!
Imagine a recluse bite, only 10x ++ worse. There are documented cases of people, who have lost limbs after a bite from this. In most cases, people just die from the bite - mainly due to no antivenom exist for this species bite. But yeah, it looks extremely cute when it digs :)
@r4iney so its more poisonous than the Brazilian Wandering Spider? :) that kills twice as many as the Black Widow and would prove many sources wrong that the "Fatal" 1 in 100 fatality rate from the Brazilian Wandering Spider is actually not the most deadly spider in the world :).
here's a word to all the idiots who say "this is cool"
"this spider is awesome"
"i want one"
and all that gay stuff, a bite from it will definitely make you handicapped. I worked in the Middle East & i've seen a few cases which the medics referred to as the "sand spider bite"
its one, or the worst venomous spider in the world. its venom is so much worse than brown recluse spider. if it attacks U, and If You`re lucky You didn`t die, U can prepare for many plastic surgeries. Absulutely 10/10 adrenaline
i thought cave spiders were eyeless because caves are dark and you can't really see in them. so they wouldn't need them. that's why it's acting all weird is cuz it's searching for food without eyes
They bury themselves in the sand so they are "invisible" to their prey, then when their prey comes close enough, they snap and grab it. They are the fastest little buggers.
Unlike the dangerous neurotoxic spiders (the widow spiders, the Australasian funnel-web spider, and the Brazilian wandering spiders), no antivenom currently exists for Sicarius, leading many authorities to suspect that a bite by this spider is likely to produce a fatality.
It looks scary at first but then it starts to dig and you're like awww! :)

The Sicarius Hahni which is living in africa has a more effective venom.
