To be honest, I don't think extreme overclocking should mean better parts right off the bat. I agree the PSU needs to be upgraded. However you should see how far you can push what you have. You'd be surprised what you may get out of that ram and cpu. I would invest in some high CFM fans, buy a nice aircooler or H70 for the cpu, and get a new PSU. Then push as much as you can.
Buy some high CFM fans. They will be noisy, but get the fastest spinning fans and they will cool the ram well. for slushbox you won't need fans on the H50, but when youre just doing air benching you'll also want fast fans for that.
For thermal paste use something that will not freeze. Get arctic silver ceramique. When under air, use AS5 or something similar.
As for the ram, any ram will be good. I would try pushing what you have first.

how did i do it on gigabyte version ???? thx
idan124 2 months ago
@idan124 Unfortunately it depends on the card. I do not have your exact card, so I couldn't tell you. It depends on the IC/VRM's your card uses.

Can u undo this , or this is permanent mode? I got an 5870 ref design and want to go over 1.35v to around 1.6v how can i do this accurately?
2007vitaly 2 months ago
@2007vitaly It is not a permanent mod, pencil mods can simply be erased.
Pencil mods are not accurate whatsoever. You would need to do a permanent solder on mod to be accurate. 1.6V is too much for 5870's to handle

Wow, that's ingenious. Never thought graphite can be used to overclock... Thx a lot man :)

@terorvlad It definitely can :) .....glad you liked the video

Would pencil mods work on dell motherboards for the CPU?
*looks ominously at an old pentium 4*
crabid 1 year ago
@crabid Absolutely, but the correct resistor would have to be identified
Slappa 2 months ago
the question is how do you identify the GPU Ic?
Blackout9550 1 year ago
@Blackout9550 There are resources all over the internet where you can type in the chip number and get a profile of the semi-conductor
