  • UGLY MODEL!!

  • @LimitMediaCrewHD Ugly comment and attitude.

  • @thatnikonguy .... i had to writ this to get your attention... Im kinda angry becus you, in all you videos is trying to make Nikon the best brand.

  • @LimitMediaCrewHD you should watch more of them, dont think you have a full picture of my view on the camera market.

  • actually i think there should be some replacement lcd screens now for the d5100, and if you can't find those, then i think you should use an external monitor, using the mini hdmi out port

  • Comment removed

  • @WoWproductions21 thank you for the offensive comment. and see you later.

  • just get the lcd repaired?

  • Cool story bro

  • @FadedFocusFotography have fine

  • If you're trying to lift your production value, why not invest in an external mic, the D5100 has a mic input and it would really improve the audio, something like the rode video mic or something?

  • @Hobbes4ever I have both. neither film full HD video.

  • wow the D5100 looks like a toy camera

    get a D700 or D3s ffs

  • put on ebay for parts baby !

  • Needs Corning Gorilla Technology

  • @thatnikonguy, do you still have this camera...? I would love to buy it! >.<!

  • Buy a canon better video quality

  • You need a Gitzo

  • @CalebFilmsPresent I have two! And that was using one - I did not put the foot somewhere safe.

  • @thatnikonguy wth.....2 gitzo...

    i just got 1 Parco!

    (To D5100: RIP)

  • why don't you just send it to Nikon for repair?

  • D5100 cheap? I saved hard to buy mine. 10 hour shifts

  • I was shooting halfway up a mountain in the Scottish highlands at dawn in winds I couldn't stand up in properly. Crouching around on 45 degree landslides to try and get a better view i left my camera backpack with 50mm 1.2L, 100-400mm L and other stuff inside behind unzipped. As soon as I was a couple of metres away a big gust picked it up a foot off the ground and it tumbled head over heels 30metres down the side of the mountain as lenses fell out. Incredibly no glass was smashed! Thanks Canon!

  • can't you just get a small hd monitor or something

  • in mexico city they fix it!! but sometimes its better to sale for pieces in the same workshops ...they use it (they call buy "bones")

  • ouch! i have a d5100 and in this lesson i learned not to use the tripod on a windy day :)

  • woah, a klingon !

  • ehh you can turn the screen for protection ... its mend for that

  • Dude that sucks. If I dropped my camera, i would cry forever. LOL I'm 13, and I have a 550D, and a D3100.

  • I dropped my Nikkor 35mm f/1.8G once, and it bounced on the floor. I nearly screamed, but the lens turned out to be perfectly fine. It dropped out of the second shelf of my dry box so I shouldn't have been too worried, but it is made of plastic. And that lens is the only prime I have money to spend on, so that was something to experience.

  • couldnt you get it fixed?

  • Two things. Who the hell are buying a nikon kamera to shoot video, and the screen locks insane cheap 1:59 (thats what you get when you are buying a nikon to film) =3

  • Stories? Hmm, this past year at the oregon OSAA state track meet. I had rented a 400 2.8, mounted it on my 1DIIN, but had forgot my 681b at home, so I picked up a cheap one from a local store, on the second day of the shoot the lens broke the mount and fell 5 feet to the ground. Shattered IS system and front lens element............ horrible experience.

  • @4Alpha7Kilo god ! Insured?

  • @thatnikonguy Oh totally!( Thank god, I purposely got insurance a month prior to renting just incase this happened.) I can't imagine not being insured! I would be twice as broke as I am now!

  • @4Alpha7Kilo What happened next?

  • @4Alpha7Kilo Oh Lord, that made me cringe. :S

  • @BigRooster747 haha fair enough. good luck to you

  • you had a strap on the cam and didnt use it... dumb and well deserved.

  • @BigRooster747 use the strap... when it is on tripod and I am standing a few meters away shooting? DO you get out and shoot much, or spend more time in front of computer leaving comments?

  • @thatnikonguy I shoot lots and ALWAYS use the strap. Its there for a reason. Plain dumb not to use it, esp on a rocky surface and using a cheap plastic version of a cam not made to withstand the elements and plain dumb behaviour!

  • @BigRooster747 haha, fair enough. Good luck to you.

  • @BigRooster747 u are a dumbass dude

  • @BigRooster747 You sir deserve a good thrashing with that camera in a sock...not really going to do much damage to the camera as you haven't fully developed that soft spot at the back of your head yet...

  • Ouch. I dropped my Canon Powershot a couple of feet (in a soft bag) and slightly cracked the screen, which then reversed the image- a pain for shooting scenes as it's hard to get the horizon right. Finally killed it when I put it n a table on a gorillapod, which crumples with a tiny touch and sent the camera flying onto a hard floor. Now it's only good for sound recording:(

I now have a Nikon D5100 with a padded bag, and don't use a gorillapod.

  • I have a d5100. This hurts

  • Pains me to see that.

  • Comment removed

  • Do you have huge hands or is the D5100 toy sized or something? I have a D7000 and when i put my telephoto and battery grip it becomes so huge that i feel like it would snap my neck if i don't support it with my hands when not shooting.

  • My cat knocked my camera bag off of a table...lost my Nikon 17-55 2.8. The filter broke, the glass was fine...but the front bit is jammed into the lens so it can't zoom anymore. So basically, I now have a 40mm f 2.8 prime lens =p

  • @KodieMacIntyre Did the cat survive?

  • Maybe you could hook up an external LCD to it through the HDMI port.

  • I'm sure Nikon would have changed the LCD on it in no time... I also lost a camera in a horrifying way, fell in water with it, it was a lumix tz compact, screw the camera, the hard part was getting out of a terrible, wavy sea, witch washed me off a ledge, no one dared get close to help... staying in like that for 3 minutes seemed forever, waves crashing on you, and failing to get out repeatedly really takes you to "so this is it, huh ?"... divine hand helped me pull myself back out...

  • @DrLB85 Wow! That sounds awful. Glad you're okay!

  • nikon is cheap , canon 400d fall from my hand 530 meter height and its still a life

  • @5535ful You dropped your Camera half a Kilometer and it survived? You should tell Guiness Book Of Records about that!

  • @5535ful Over half km drop! Get real idiot!

  • war story; in the middle of taking Wedding pic tripped over flowers that had fallen out of place in the church ,as I fell with camera in hand over flower girl who also there and had stopped fix her shoe, hit a guy who had turned around to see what happened right on his left elbow and the Camera, lens and flash went rolling, falling apart and stopped at the brides feet. I knew it would be bad because it hit the floor hard before it started rolling. Took my back out and finished.

  • have u sold that nikon? I want to buy something like that as a backup camera

  • just bring it to me!

  • what battery grip ur using in ur d5100???

  • RIP......

  • I had a D5000 and after owning it for about a month I dropped it while filming my friend skateboarding and that's when they discontinued it so Best Buy convinced me to buy a D3100.............

  • that d5100 drop dead after seen that beautifull girl there!!! dude!!

  • You have warranty?

  • I dropped mien D300 with 18-200 lens attached on the concret floor one. The fall was around 150cm to the ground and the camera landed on the right corner where the memory slot is, it got a litle smash there and the slot wouldnt open, but i took some tools and straighten that bump out and now it works better then before :D

  • I dropped my 35mm f1.8 and its completely fine it only dropped in the little lens case you get with it onto carpet, yet the hood is alot more loose now, have i broken the hood in any way? there’s no visible damage

  • shit that hurts my balls to look at

  • Ever hear of a camera repair shop?

  • what lens were you using on your D5100 ??

    tamron 18-270 ??

  • @zainkam1 correct

  • @philippeclement yes I did blame myself. and I was shooting video, the only thing I use it for, hence screen open.

  • Well, blame yourself and not the D5100 !!!

Any camera would break as such.

If shooting still picture, why did you have your screan opened ?

I always keep mine closed for protection and use reflex view for snapping photos.

  • My Canon G12 blew over because the flippy out screen acted like a sail! Fell on the front and scuffed the front element of the lens.

About a month later I took it to a party and lost it! Doh!!!!

  • A D5100 show up on Gumtree less than a week ago. It also has a broken LCD screen, properly was yours!! :D

  • For someone like me, dropping my D7000 would probably send me into depression, for a little while. I'm only 19 and that was the best I could afford.

  • @175myles I was not happy either!

  • @175myles hi, similar prob 3 months ago, shooting at night in east london water works, shooting a 100mtr deep shaft, walking to a safe area tripped on a wooden box, went down still clutching D3 24-70 f2.8, like slow motion saw my right hand holding camera and reflex snapped my hand back up b4 it connected with concrete floor, workmate said should put that on you tube, still having nightmares now...FUCK THAT WAS CLOSE, all the best anyway, D4 MY NEXT CAMERA..YEAH BRING IT OONN.

  • @175myles my d7000 is used primarly for landscape and rockclimbing photography, the amount of knocks and chalk this thing has seen is crazy, d7000 its a strong camera, fear not!

  • @Jolinator, Yeah, but I have OCD when it comes to my camera, I sped a long time saving for it and I really can't afford to repair it if it gets a smashed LCD (Even the top one) or a broken lens mount. I often use a flash with my camera, which adds to the danger of breaking something if I drop it.

  • Comment removed

  • can you replace the screen?

  • can't you just send it to nikon and fix it ?

  • @catalin205 sold it, replaced.

  • @miishutka fingers crossed

  • Don't brake your next Nikon D4 :)

  • I dropped my lens today while shooting a friends wedding, dropped straight out of my coat pocket onto a tile floor. As for as the lens condition, it looks perfect and works perfect, no visible cracks or scratched lens from what I see. Add insult to injury, early in the day my 3500 dollar downhill mountain bike was stolen, so when i heard that lens drop it was just "are you @#%#$@# kidding me!?" moment. BTW the lens is a Nikon 18-35mm f3.5-4.5

  • How much would it cost to replace the LCD?

  • @Jolinator cheers

  • also Audio Port can be fixed by most decent electronic shops quite easy,

  • Matt the nikon D5100 LCD can be replaced for under 80$ AUD. google d5100 replacement lcd.

  • What do you think about sigma 24-70mm since the nikon version is too expensive? Can u please recommend a lense for 900bucks ty

  • @NikonNewb the nikon 24-70 is worth every cent. If it is above your budget, stay tuned, I will be doing a detailed comparison between brands in next weeks/months.

  • @thatnikonguy will be looking forward to that as well.. would be glad if u'd add the tamron 28-75mm f2.8 as well.. :) thanks

  • Sorry about the camera; maybe you could rub a bit of brass colored paint along the edges and sell it on ebay as a "Jim Marshall Rock and Roll Limited Edition Collector Item" :-) Slightly off topic, but that's a beautiful location you were shooting; I'd love to have rock formations like that around where I live...

  • @BillybobSpangleberry haha, good one. Yes, we are spoiled with beautiful nature in sydney.

  • wasted a camera on ugly legs. what a shame

  • @pwrshots the model or the tripod? The tripod is the sexiest I have ever seen!

  • Give it away in a random contest

  • you arent insured for accidental damage?

  • @app411 yes i am

  • I feel sorry for you Matt, there's nothing worse than breaking something expensive to replace. You should setup a little donation fund, if all us subscribers sent you a dollar you'd soon have the money to replace it. The videos are for our benefit after all, I'd gladly chip in as a thanks for all advice and entertainment over the last year. Keep the videos coming!

  • @SR3ID91 thanks mate - that is a lovely thought - but I am not sure how many viewers would share that view! :)

  • Get urself a Nikon V1 Matt, great little camera that wil serve you more than only great quality film

  • OMG, ;(

  • Ops,

That must have hurt. Sorry buddy. Can't you get it repaired? Then again, is it feasible in getting it fixed?

Last question, in your opinion, in an Apple to Apple comparison which lens is closer to the Nikon, Tamron or Sigma?

  • @Heartkwt watch some of the digitalrev videos, he has some shots with Tamron vs Nikon lenses, there are some differences.

  • @TheAutotoys Thanks mate.

    Cheers

  • oh btw: I switched some of my video work off from a Nikon D7000 to a Panasonic HDC-SD800, if you dont need the bokeh and lens selection, for general work, the HDC-SD800 is a great HD camera (a little pricey.. comes in at around the D5100 price) - well at least with my B&W Multi Coated Filter on it.

  • Matt, I was watching this with my wife, and she asked, what kind of tripod was it on. I said, hey.. its a Gitzo, you can tell by the marble finish.... Then she said, you wanted to buy a Gitzo over a ManFrotto, and then I said, "why Yes!" ---, my Nikon gear and lenses are quite a bit heavier and more expensive than a D5100 (I sold off my 5100 2 months after it came out)...

Were the legs not fully extended or something, or the ground not leveled?? I am a bit worried about wind gusts now.

  • My little brother who was 4 had bit the mode dial off my Nikon point and shoot! lucky it wasn't my 550D!

  • That sucks. I wonder how it would have held up if the LCD was folded inward.

At least it wasn't your D3s though.

  • Dang, sorry to hear that happened!

  • Poor 5100..:( Sorry to hear that brother. Having the 5100 my self, it's perfect for the beginner photography as i am. And yes it take fantastic video- regardless what all those Canon people say...

  • ouch! one time when i was walking out of my apt, i brought out my olympus ep-l1 and as i was swinging the strap around my should i lost my grip on the strap and just let go of it as i was swinging it up and basically launched it into the street and my heart froze as i saw it flying infront of me forward into the street and... BAMMMMM... hit the hard ground and tumbled a couple of feet ... sigh.. still works but the auto focus system is alittle messed up.. =( somedays the AF just searches ..

  • Great videos, man. Nevertheless, you always sound not so nice with your mic, don't know why. Also, your videos are damn loud. Perhaps thats the reason.

    Keep on goin'!

  • @TheRealFufuchs haha - damn - i had so many comments that I was too soft! Maybe I have gone too far in other direction.

  • Ship it to me, I'll use for parts. ;)

  • Just check it with the service! Maybe it's some glass replace maybe screen, not a big deal.

  • Whoops......I use a small sand bag to weigh down my tripod. But accidents happen m8, almost lost my d7000 and 24-70 when a leg of my tripod wasn't locked in right. Keep up the good work.

  • Sorry to hear about your accident. I purchased some AlienBees strobes this year. I almost lost one of them on my very first outdoor shoot because the wind caught my umbrella. Thaniks for posting this and reminding us to slow down and use caution. I love you videos. Thanks for posting them.

  • @TheYFlyer phew! So you saved the alienBees?

    cheers

  • I had a similar experience with my D700 last week, my camera fell off the tripod completely with the tripod plate still attached to it. Thankfully the damage was minimal for the camera body, the view finder becomes blurry all of a sudden every now and then (i have to shake the camera in order for whatever's been broken to settle down in it's place). So i sent it to Nikon to repair that. The lens (tamron 28-75 f2.8 A09) had it's aperture mechanism jammed, and sent it to Tamron for service.

  • In a rush, my 3 month old Minolta D7 ($1700 body only) came out of my camera bag that I had SWORN was zipped up. I flew +6,000 miles to shoot in Hawaii. The camera busted 18 hours before my event. I had to buy a new camera. I had insurance on the Minolta but not the new camera. 8 days later I was on the beach shooting a male model and had my bag behind me. Someone grabbed my bag with a lens, P&S camera, keys to a condo, wallet and a couple of things. THANK GOONESS I had my car keys on me.

  • @spreadingaloha I was going to embroider the Nikon symbol on my Crumbler bag, now I have to think about it. I am also thinking about taking off my prized Nikon Pins.

  • Maybe an issurance would be a good idea.

  • @Crosis70 yes, I am fully insured.

  • Forever having to replace umbrellas, even with heavy weights without someone holding they always end up falling and bending.

  • @ruption0 god, I hear that!

  • I would seriously check out the Nex-5n for video, Ive tried it and it's great. Oh and can't you fix that monitor somehow? I mean it's just a panel connected by a small cable strip.

  • I lost my camera on my wedding night with all the pictures from the wedding. We left it in the hotel hall where we had dinner and went to bed in a hotel room just upstairs. The next day it was gone.

  • Shame about your D5100. But these things might happen to everyone unfortunately.

I once knocked my D7000 and lens pretty hard. It was resting on a stool secured by the strap. Had the Sigma 17-50mm f/2.8 attached to it. I somehow managed to strafe it or something and it fell off the stool and banged hard against the metal leg.

I checked both the lens and body afterwards. Apparently no damage whatsoever. They still function perfectly. The body must've taken the brunt. The D7000 sure is tough :)

  • I think sony nex-5n would be nice for your videos. Small size, good video and you can mount any lens with adapter.

  • Not having much luck with screens lately are you Mark? Oh well

  • i was bumped into the ponds at the royal gardens in sydney. i lost my a900 and 70-200 2.8.

  • Wow really sorry to see that. It actually hurt to thumbs up this video. :-( I hope you find a good home for your disabled 5100.

  • Oh man, how unfortunate! Commiserations to your felled D5100.

    0:58

    Did you say "woks"?

  • Comment removed

  • poor little 5100, used to have that! A great camera. But yes, I'm less afraid to do things with my d300s.

Matt, do you wear the screen protector on your cameras if they provide one?

  • The worst thing that has happened to me was to have my intervalometer swimming in the ocean. I was focused on setting my tripod properly that I didn't notice my remote was already in the water. I quickly removed the batteries and just placed the remote in my dry cab and the next day everything was fine

  • *cringe* I just got my D5100!

  • @kyle51895 it will be fine - is a great camera - just be careful and you will love it.

  • Speaking of better video quality, you need a new mic :P

  • @Aaron16 true

  • The worst I have done is dropped my Pentax MZ-50 off the side of a boat.

Camera straps around the neck from here on in for me.

  • That sucks Matt :\ But now u have an excuse to get yourself a D4 & maybe sell your D3s.

  • Sorry about that!!!

  • Sandbags?

  • @RidiculousTech for light stands yes, not for tripd - just needs more care.

  • I would have blamed the model for intense shooter distraction! - please tell me your "really" good mates with her :-P.....new camera?- my new 60D is bloody great and with the 70-200 2.8 i got yesterday-Forget about it!!......you will see the pics soon on flickr. I'm just trying to teach myself some LR# at the moment to do a bit of touch up stuff.

  • @CRANKYONE100 she is a sweet girl we have shot together a few times.

    Look forward to the shots.

  • Why don't you purchase a Camcorder to film with?

  • @Maxsdiscos I can use all my fast glass with a DSLR for video

  • R.I.P. D5100....

  • I've got a fairly "lucky" camera war story Matty but can I do it as a video response?

  • D7000 is superb! But, when it comes to video, 5100's rotatable screen is a BIG BIG PLUS!

  • C'mon, it's only lcd and audio jack - it can't be that expensive - replace.

  • So are you getting a second D5100 or D7000? The D7000 will def be tougher.

  • @dan007iel 5100

  • Aww I'm sorry to hear about your camera! You seem so calm about it - I would be weeping. :)

  • I'm sorry to hear about this. I admit it would be awkward but you could look into buying an external audio recorder like the zoom H1. It'd probably give you better audio than your d5100. Just means you have to sync it to the video in editing. If you really can't sell it I'd buy it for 100 bucks or so ;)

  • 2Pac <3

  • I've never broke a camera, but I can attest to how sharp oyster shells are. I slipped on one at the beach and got a 6" cut in the bottom of my foot.

  • So how much do you want for it mat? I would love to pull it down and make a camera for a quad copter.

  • still getting another 5100 or d7000?

  • @TibetArchive 5100
