the Doors had a magic you don't see today. Jim could go in any direction during a song and the band was right there to drive him on and they feed off one another. Awesome!!! To correct the info with this video, Pam sat IN Mick's lap in the front row. This made for a very sombre and subdued Jim, not the fecitious and provocative "Jimbo" that would push the limits to the edge. Read up on the band and the full experience that was The Doors. Magic performance!!! Watch the whole thing!!!!

However, I'd look into purchasing one of Jim's poetry books (two of them released while he was alive, two others released and full of unfinished works posthumously). They have much more depth and intelligence to them, much of them very much inspired by the stream of consciousness French prose by Rimbaud. They have a completely different flavor than the "poetry" of his lyrics. I do agree that his impact as a singer/songwriter is more profound.

Jim may have not been the greatest poet in the world, but I myself love his poetry. His poetry changes you without you even realizing it. You start out yourself, and when it's over, you feel the same but you are a changed person. That's what happened to me, and I hope that's what has happened to everybody who listens to The Doors. "Hey look out, there's somebody comin', and there's nothing you can do about it!"

I wouldn't really call Jim Morrison a poet. There's no doubt that he wrote poetry, but it's his delivery of it that made him the legend that he is. The man was a singer/songwriter in my opinion. A poet moves you with only the words that you read and your personal relation as far as thoughts and experience with whatever concept they're portraying goes, but when a great singer sings it's almost as if you're sharing the same mind with them. I think that was his real talent. Eh?

@azcitizenbrain Absolutely agree with you though I think Jim was (and still is) one of the greatest poets in the world. There aren't many poets (at least in my opinion) that can change you as a person as Jim did/does. People look at/listen to/read it and it changes one's perspective and gives them a certain euphoria otherwise only given by sex or drugs. I think that's what makes one a great artist.

I went to the rock and roll hall of fame recently and they had this special exhibit on the doors. As soon as I walked into the room this song started to play. If you have been there you know what I mean when I really had "out of the body " experience then. It was awesome with all the memmorialbila of the doors and how they had it fixed up. And I was drunk at the time IT WAS AWESOME!!!!! You had to been there.
