thats the reason why doors and beatles were, and are the best bands ever... because their lyrics were write by poets... Morrison & Lennon... The Devil and The God
the Doors had a magic you don't see today. Jim could go in any direction during a song and the band was right there to drive him on and they feed off one another. Awesome!!! To correct the info with this video, Pam sat IN Mick's lap in the front row. This made for a very sombre and subdued Jim, not the fecitious and provocative "Jimbo" that would push the limits to the edge. Read up on the band and the full experience that was The Doors. Magic performance!!! Watch the whole thing!!!!
@morse3388 In many ways, I absolutely agree with you. However, I'd look into purchasing one of Jim's poetry books (two of them released while he was alive, two others released and full of unfinished works posthumously). They have much more depth and intelligence to them, much of them very much inspired by the stream of consciousness French prose by Rimbaud. They have a completely different flavor than the "poetry" of his lyrics. I do agree that his impact as a singer/songwriter is more profound.
okay, he dances because it's him getting everything he's got out. he's dancing like a manaic to be free and not care. he wouldnt care if you thought he was a fag or not. Jim morrison, a true free man.
Is a shaman trance dancing. The dancing around the mic stand is a figuration of the shaman ritual for the spiritual cleansing of the tribe. In which the shaman dance around a wood post in circles making screams to make the evil spirits leave the tribe and praying for the tribe protection. That is why Jim Morrison performances was full of spiritualism. Even when people didn't figured which was the real meaning.
Folks- lighten up. I like The Doors too, and Morrison was a helluva of a performer, but enuf w/ the Christ/Romans/shaman references. He was a rock star, a performer, and a damn good one; leave it at that already!
This whole performance is mind blowing. It would be hard for an artist of today to accomplish this today, people are too afraid to go left in their music, art or whatever, who knows
maybe you should learn it too, and please dont call jim morrison poor. maybe you are are not able to see absolutely the light in jim morrison and his poetry. By the way...greetings to Apoll and Dionysos
Yes I have, but I dont believe it. I really believe that Jim was inspierd by making art in a combination with a search for knowledge, lets say it with his own words: "There are continents and shores, which beseech our understanding." Actually I really think he was a shaman. This is a big difference, between sombody who is really possesed by negative identities. I will not say that things like this does not exist, because they do.
I too wish his still alive....and go to a concert of the doors, and see him make that dance, and singing the end and all of those great songs that enter in our hearts and make us see the world with another perspective......RIP, Jim.
Jim may have not been the greatest poet in the world, but I myself love his poetry. His poetry changes you without you even realizing it. You start out yourself, and when it's over, you feel the same but you are a changed person. That's what happened to me, and I hope that's what has happened to everybody who listens to The Doors. "Hey look out, there's somebody comin', and there's nothing you can do about it!"
I wouldn't really call Jim Morrison a poet. There's no doubt that he wrote poetry, but it's his delivery of it that made him the legend that he is. The man was a singer/songwriter in my opinion. A poet moves you with only the words that you read and your personal relation as far as thoughts and experience with whatever concept they're portraying goes, but when a great singer sings it's almost as if you're sharing the same mind with them. I think that was his real talent. Eh?
@azcitizenbrain Absolutely agree with you though I think Jim was (and still is) one of the greatest poets in the world. There aren't many poets (at least in my opinion) that can change you as a person as Jim did/does. People look at/listen to/read it and it changes one's perspective and gives them a certain euphoria otherwise only given by sex or drugs. I think that's what makes one a great artist.
I went to the rock and roll hall of fame recently and they had this special exhibit on the doors. As soon as I walked into the room this song started to play. If you have been there you know what I mean when I really had "out of the body " experience then. It was awesome with all the memmorialbila of the doors and how they had it fixed up. And I was drunk at the time IT WAS AWESOME!!!!! You had to been there.
