  • if u like thumbs up

  • yeah fuk him he is dead and so is da song

  • Beautiful song. Live and let live. English born and proud of my Irish heritage.

  • "what's done, is done. And what's won is won. And what's lost is lost and gone forever"

  • @rebkev01 nothing is lost forever, emancipate yourself from mental slavery....none but ourselves can free our minds

  • @3tangle3 Beautiful and true.

  • I can forgive when Ireland is united, until then there will always be a huge scare to remind us.

  • @OISINDMAN and forget about your celtic brothers over the sea like the cornish who are ignored and shat on? thanks lol

  • @OISINDMAN And it should be united. Like the lyrics from "Grace" song of the Easter Rising "Will they say we've lost?"

  • Forgive? maybe,forget? never.

  • @crawfie..get real nobhead and wise up....forgive and forget??? Retard!!!

  • Mhh, Prefer Wolfe Tones version, way more tradition I think.

  • best song ever it has it all

  • Tiocfaidh ár lá!

Je crois en une Irlande libre!

    Ирландии, одной нации!

Whatever, however you want to hear it England. All we wanted was freedom. You denied that. We reacted.

  • I love this , its amazing I love you ireland with all my heart till the day i die , Like if you agree

  • this song was played at my grandads funeral. R.I.P grandad

  • this would my uncles faverouite song & i miss him so much:( i love this song so much <3

  • A fantastic and touching example of Irish musical artistry. Nobody should listen and not shed a tear.

  • One day Ireland will be free.

  • @brodemonz thing is,in the UK's eyes why would u give up northern Ireland

  • Fair play doneforDead nicely said. Nice one mate, good luck and take care...

  • hail,hail and bless

  • this is a beautiful song

  • up the ira

  • Ireland, a beautiful country, friendly people who ironicaly cannot live with eachother. This song is beautiful and sad and should touch the heart strings of any normal human being regardless of whether they are protestant or catholic. Lets learn to live with one another for are childrens sake

  • I am4th geration; it is very difficult to seperate the two nations, but am now english

  • Lovely song. Historical gibberish of course. Trevelyan had no corm, he was an administrator not a landowner. Transportation had ended by the time of the famine. Michael stole corn so the young might see the morn,. He go caught. so the young got no corn. Yet Mary must raise them with dignity. Written in the 20th century as republican propaganda. Lovely song.

  • @boogieeck not entirely...its not meant to be bloody literal...trevelayn was quoted in the times in the 1840s as saying it was Gods punishment to the irish

  • Ireland.. Wattta Country :)

  • For f**k sake, it's time to cut history's tow rope of hate. 'Raise our children with dignity' and show no hatred of any nation or people, else hatred is inherited again and again and again and again. It was the greedy people that did damage in the past and caused war, famine and poverty to supplement their avarice, wherever they resided or came from. They are causing misery to this day, living on the proceeds of misery, blood and sweat gleaned riches, ancient or modern.

  • @stbricesday i dont think the irish did particularly hate, a handful of people did a few misguided bombings compared to the world thats minute

  • @Apemanwithcalculator Yes, I agree

  • @stbricesday

    we can never forget

  • @stbricesday Totally agree, lets move forward and not take hate with us. ..

  • @stbricesday brilliant ....i hope our english brothers (and they are ancestorally) wake up to the elite who keep them down like peasants...anglo norman aristocracy :(

  • @stbricesday I agree with ya mate, for me..I can get Potatoes from Tescos nowadays...cmon guys..that was like hundreds of yrs ago...get a fuckin grip..its 2012 now...The one big thing in this world..Hatred wise...is RELIGION!!! ...Do we practice it on a day to day basis ?? Do we goto "OUR" church? do we pray to "OUR" God ? I bet half, maybe more than half dont...Way I see it...if ur worryin about someone elses life..ur not in control of ur own..:)

  • @ScopedOutRaven A little history may help you. The Great Famine was not "hundreds of years ago." It began 154 years ago and lasted for years. The results were shocking: starvation and emigration on a massive scale. The British government essentially ignored the situation or took measures designed to keep money and goods flowing into England.

As for your hatred of religion, I don't know what that has to do with the famine. London's driving forces were, as always, ethnic hatred and greed.

  • @TheMarley1603 Britain were in Iraq too! The same thing is happening to palestine and the general concensus in Ireland is anti-israel...! They are immigrants not invaders? The modern world is a place of many cultures and diversity... The Irish are immigrating because they can't afford to stay and have families to feed.... UK Bailout? Get your head out of your arse. It was the EU, and the UK didnt want to contribute. Look at all Ireland added to Europe during the boom.

  • please lets forget and forgive

  • good copy

  • IRA BAD. FORGIVE AND MOVE ON! FUCKING SAKE

  • Can I just say that — as a massive Dubliners fan — I really don't think this is the Dubliners...it certainly is not Luke Kelly singing.

This sounds like the Paddy Reilly version from 1983, which is the second version of this song to be released — and the most popular.

The first version released was, I think, in 1979 by a folk singer called Danny Doyle.

  • @Zalgar151 feel sorry for you 2 mate, it is a song worth dying to, C'mon the dubliners and C'mon the hoops !

  • @Zalgar151 feel sorry for you mate, it is a song worth dying for ! C'MON THE DUBLINERS AND THE HOOPS !

  • Played at my Grandads funeral; he built a house in Ireland and immigrated to England with my Nan and planned to go back once they retired.

Since they had 8 children they never did get to go back to that 'dream house' I just hope he is there now....his dream.

    R.I.P Grandad

  • @Zalgar151 I feel sorry for you, my grandad died 9 months ago aswell.

  • @Zalgar151 So lovely, i bet he is there

  • @Zalgar151 yeh,I hear ya mate..played this at my uncles funeral..proper sad mate. May ur Gramp rip man..the best tunes cometh the best people :) Life goes on my friend.

  • "The weak can never forgive. Forgiveness is the attribute of the strong."

    Gandhi

  • St George was born on Malta and was a officer fought against heathens at edge of the Roman Empires border in Asia. The drgaon he fights is the Heathens. For an Englishman to claim a defender of the catholic faith on an video a time of oppression of catholics is ironic.

  • I'm a Rangers fan and I'm proud of the British servers, but I don't follow or even condone all this bigotry sectarian rubbish, I support Rangers purely footballing reasons..

I love Ireland as a country, I love Irish people, great nation with great people..

I just wish that people would stop all this sectarianism, can't we all just get along, we're all good people lol.

Hope I havent offended anyone, just stating an opinion

    P.S, beautiful song

  • @DonforDead I agree completely mate

  • @derfruhlinginparis Thank God I'm not the only one haha

  • @DonforDead How can an opinion offend? and if it does then you are shouting into deaf, bigoted ears : )

  • @DonforDead what are the british servers...you mean the brythonic cultures? or the 1707 hanoverian state created by ppl from germany and holland

  • @DonforDead good man

  • @DonforDead well said!

  • nothing matters when your free

  • Why are most of the comments made here about football?, this song is about the desperate times the Irish people suffered during the potatoe famine.

  • Funny how this was turned into 'the fields of anfield road' by liverpoool fans :)

  • I was in Athenry today :)

  • RIP Grandad <3

  • just grow up! all countries are ruled and lead by men, dont matter what religion, Thats life!

  • You should realise that you are not naturally doted with morals but the judeochristian society you live in has, in uncountable ways, formed your character, your morals and your conscience. You should not plagiarise: the Bible is a technical manual for religions and states. It is a thought tool. Read it and you will see where human morals come from and who holds the patent on them. Whether we like it or not we have to give credit where it is due.

Also read Lord of the flies.

  • Someone said "We don't need God to give us morals". You have to remember Genesis was probably the first book. God refers to a book he is writing throughout the OT. What i mean is: being the 1st book and being as "someone" has crammed it with morals for humans, rules for humans and definitions of human nature. Not to mention the many technical tips for a successful, civilized society. The Bible's laws and morals have been grafted into every legal system since 1000s of yrs bc. You should realise

  • but we cant see them. Or that they are in a better place with dreams and songs to sing. In a place where once again, they can watch the free birds fly and most importantly LOVE is on the wing. Great song eh? I'm making it the main hymn in my new religion and i'm singing it in the mornings.

  • What do we really know what lead them to crash those planes killing themselves alongside thousands of others? It's certain though that men throughout the ages of all faiths have gone to their deaths on the battlefield believing their fight to be right, believing that their ultimate sacrifice would earn them their glory in heaven. You dont even need religion to believe in the afterlife for yourselves and your families. When our family members die many of us believe they are watching over us but

  • The world would be a much happier place if all religion was eradicated! We only live once ffs dont waste it fighting. What does it fuckin matter who believes what??? There is no right or wrong.Believe what u believe n live n let live ;o)

  • A great song

  • Who invaded Ireland first?

The same lot who invaded and conquered England. It was an alliance of French Normans and the Welsh barons William appointed.

Just wish the Irish had been around to help the Brits and Celts fight off the Frogs all those years ago.

  • @vangelovan Actually it was a Dutchman...

  • @vangelovan well if you want to be like that, remember it was the vikings that had conquored the french, hence being called normans. so it was the same vikings that the english, french, and irish had been fighting for hundreds of years by that point.

  • @tranurse You are right about that. And now the Danes have banned Marmite. They sure know a quick way to start a war.

Think I'll stick to folk songs.

  • pog

  • Sorry how does the fact that Celtic was set up by a priest for the poor make them not scum? So your implying that even if there was a history of child abuse at Celtic, racial abuse towards rangers players, disrespecting the death of soldiers (many of whom were Celtic fans probably ) and pro terrorist songs they cannot be "scum" just because of the reason they were set up. Im not necessarily suggesting they are scum but this "irish priest" makes no difference, its a good song btw

  • The British were some cruel bastards back in the day. They aren't perfect now but neither is America

  • @MyExTreMeRoMaNcE Ya whats your point?

  • @IrishStudentVidz My point is everyone is judging current day England and it makes no sense. I'm not a fn of the British but what have they done that is so wrong recently?

  • @MyExTreMeRoMaNcE So whats so wrong with us plz tell

  • @spatXL There is nothing "so wrong" with you now. I said back then.

  • @MyExTreMeRoMaNcE Im British, but i have never done you or yours wrong so get off ya barrer

  • @oknetty Im saying England WAS bad. WAS being the keyword. You guys are ok now. Other then getting way too fucking hype over soccer

  • @MyExTreMeRoMaNcE

Just like we get "Hyped" over Hockey and Basketball...anyways...what the fuck is "Soccer"?

  • @Rao665 If you're from the US, it's called soccer. And if you're from the US and still dont call it soccer then please die

  • @MyExTreMeRoMaNcE

hey did you watch the football world cup in 2010? how about Padball? College Padball baby. Auburn 2010 Champions!

  • @MyExTreMeRoMaNcE americans are the scum of the earth, theres only a few nice americans, most are just power hungry bastards wanting oil and money for america, you call america a country of freedom, yet if u say 1 thing out of place ur government comes down on u like a ton of bricks, america is a fools land of false hope, now saying that i am 100% irish and my wife to be is an american and i love her to bits , i see her as one of the only good things america has braught about, but .....

  • @saphirafix

I agree. Technically, I'm American, but we're a bunch of bigots. What I'd give to be Irish!

  • @shadowstrider43 lol ty matey

  • @MyExTreMeRoMaNcE what u call football isnt football ur american football is more like a rough version of rugby, what u call soccer the rest of the world call football, many americans i know also agree with me, so when u start saying shit like please die, remember your being very immature and ur making not only urself , but ur fellow country men look stupid and imature and u further prove my point.

  • @saphirafix OK but he asked me what Soccer was. He clearly fucking knows what i meant

  • Comment removed

  • @saphirafix i agree with most of that apart from when you say "american football is more like a rough version of rugby" we all know rugby is a tougher than american football ;)

  • @MyExTreMeRoMaNcE yeah but this is an irish song not a british song so you need to chill the fuck out son and get off your high horse lol

  • @saphirafix OK but i'm American and I like the Irish better. Sorry I used logic you dumb cunt

  • @MyExTreMeRoMaNcE dont u start on me u arogant american bastard, we all know americans are power hungry scumbags

  • @saphirafix Im not on any horse dickhead.

  • @MyExTreMeRoMaNcE The British are helping prop up the Irish economy, without this investment they would be pick potatos again. As for cruel wasn't that long ago that a baby was blown out its mums tummy. Both side have done evil not just the British.

  • @MyExTreMeRoMaNcE Now you hold on there boy!

  • @MyExTreMeRoMaNcE The British weren't anywhere near as cruel as the Irish. The father of a friend of mine was a soldier in the 1920's. He told of vehicles driving through the Irish countryside being ambushed with barbed wire across the roads. The idea was to behead the drivers. Barbaric Irish. The murder of opponents remains a favourite Irish republican hobby.

  • @royalcourtier Yeah because they shouldn't have been there in the first place...

  • @royalcourtierguys come on the past is the past and lets rise above all above that shit and show we can be better then the cruel basterds back then british or irish it does not matter remember just as many catholics died as protestants fighting the nazis lets rise above and show were better

  • @royalcourtier = JUST A TROLLING BULLSHITTER :--)

  • @royalcourtier Yes, and the english done nothing of such a nature to the Irish. (sarcasm). The English were worse, what would you do if someone came in and forced you to give up your culture, killed your family and friends, treated your children with brutality and destroyed communities?

  • Up the SAS

  • lovely song, that its.... nothing else, just a lovely song.

  • I do actually, thanks for noticing. I have the pleasure of having Welsh as my first language, and who told you my prick was thick did you mrs tell you, sorry I did ask her to keep quiet!! :) ask her go on !!!!

  • For a start I am not a racist cunt, I did not call you anything tha you lot dont call yourselves, secondly the world does like you but in the same way as it likes/ feels sorry for Africa! never mind you may get a song like do they know its christmas time or somethin? lets be fair, you lot are living in a third world country, no banks that work, rely on the UK to bail you out! dead language, and obviously the worst schooling system in the developed world.( judging by you my PADDY friend.)

  • @gerbigbear = JUST ANOTHER RFC SUPPORTING BIGOT FUCKWIT :-)

RFC = EUROPES SHAME A SCUMMY SECTARIAN CLUB

  • singin this is a irish rugby game like if u ever have

  • <3 Ireland beating England in the six nations, the Irish start singing this ! EPIC ! iRELAND <3 (All of it Ulster included) Nothing to do with religion or politics just a simple love of the Island itself and its people who are diverse from the very north to the very south <3

  • a true great irish song :) c`mon ireland

  • i live in england and i support celtic i am a catholic and from irish desent and my irish granda would turn in his grave knowing the 'IRA' killed an irish catholic policeman. he beleived in a united EIRE but he would be disgusted with these cowards calling themselves ira

  • @haltykern "Ireland unfree shall never be at peace" .......... the psni are still a symbol and active part of british occupation in Ireland . Religion plays no part in the struggle for Irish independence

  • @haltykern Even the old IRA killed catholic traitors

  • quality, this song was my inspiration for the video response i sent, please check it out and hear it also at my homepage for trad and new irish rebel and folk songs...seamus

  • C'MON MUNSTER!!!

  • Up the IRA!

  • why the hell are you all arguing? this is a a wonderful song...just enjoy it

  • paddy reilly is singing this for the dubliners :)

  • @wendy1bee;; you don't pay your taxes so Irish/Welsh/Scotch people can get prescriptions for free... how backward thinking of you... the bulk of your taxes go to England going to war and sticking their f**king noses in again where its not wanted,, and if you have a problem with your taxes being spent in THE NORTH OF IRELAND then tell your government to give the 6 counties back and you won't have to worry your pretty little head over it any more....

  • to rachel311000 why the fuck should i pay my taxes so the northen irish the welsh and the scots can have free what ever yous can yous you can all call yourselves irish , welsh, scot but i cant call myself english though i was born in the north east of england i can never call my self english i have to be british bullshit i pay my taxes so you get free presciptions ect and no i am not regligious

  • @Wendy1bee lol i love how you talk as if no Scottish,Welsh or N. Irish pay taxes.

  • Stop wae the religion and history it's fucking gay everyone talking about it fuck off everyone enjoying the song stay

  • why the fuck is everyone comenting about religion nd the ira nd all this is a song about the famine not the troubles

  • @BarryBurtonfan Screw Off hahaha... Im not running around waving my arms .. I jus think Religion causes more problems than it claims to solve. Its not just Osmaa Bin Laden, a key part of Islam is to spread the religion .. Using any means nessesery. We dont need God to give us morals. Reason is my principle belief.

  • to gamenameminiclip.. who do you think you are?? You talk of the IRA?? What about the British Army?? The same army who killed a nine year old girl in Divis flats in the 70's and has killed nearly 100 children more since then, they proclaim that they are protecting these county's, from who may I ask??? The very people they STOLE them from in the beginning,Britain we don't want your protection from the Irish people, if you never invaded our country we would never have needed it! reunite hÉireann

  • Its not a rebel song IRA was established in 1916 this song was written in 1840's

  • @KristoferCFC where's the proof this isn't a 1970s song??????

  • @KristoferCFC you will find it was set in the 1840's when there was a famine, it was actually written in the 1970's and recorded in 1979. The lyrics say that he "stole Trevelyan's corn"; this is a reference to Charles Edward Trevelyan, a senior British civil servant in the administration of the Lord Lieutenant of Ireland in Dublin Castle. Trevelyan believed that the starving Irish could subsist on maize. That is what I would call rebelling!

  • greatest rebel song ever..yet peaceful...such a sad situation, man is bad

  • @NorthEndSoul to be fair, the brittish have done that too

    Native American here

  • GOD BLESS NEIL LENNON

  • Aonach Paddy spraoi

  • Tiocfaidh ar la, a dhearthair.

    Bain de ar mic,

    Chuile braon fola,

    Ach Taimid fiochmhar,

    Ta mortas againn.

  • Tiocfaidh ar la

  • fucking cocksucking english pieces of shit, the pita should kill all their motters

  • @NorthEndSoul your the ignorent one, answer me this who were the black and tans? - yeah thought so. They turned out an embarrasment to the british government, my grandad saw them hold a priest on top of a truck with a gun to his head driving around their town, did the british government order that? are the british soldiers that innocent? whos the ihnorent fuck now? go back to england you brit dont you have a queens ass to lick?

  • beautiful song - love the Anfield Kop singing this without a thought for bigotry

  • why do you bring up all the poiictical history. Just enjoy a great song !

  • Haunting

  • @gmg44522 oh yeah, and it was the british soldiers pulled the trigger on bloody sunday, read the inquiry you ignorant fool 'there was no justification whatsoever' and that wasnt coming from one of those 'real hardline republicans you refer to'

  • @gmg44522 I think ur forgetting your history mate. The whole island was Catholic / republican! u are the minority, it just so happens that there were Catholics living in a county which had a border drawn by the British state because the British could not defeat the whole of Ireland. If you love England so much why dont you go on over there, I'm sure the English love Ireland just as much as you love England NOT they want nothing to do with u and neither do the MAJORITY of the people on IRELAND.

  • Religion is for the uneducated ... It shouldnt seperate poeple ... "Science flies people to the moon, Religion flies people into the World Trade Center"

  • @IrishStudentVidz

    Brilliant comment

  • @berrypickers more like shite comment

  • @cullinaneireland

Well we are all entitled to our opinion. I'm not a religeous person so don't understand the relevance to the song and religeon. I did ask this same question in an earlier post, but I do agree with the comment " religeon flies people into the world trade centre." I'm afraid thats my opinion, shite or not. Like i said in an earlier post (if you care to scroll back) I think this song is a simple irish balad thats why I listen to it.

  • @IrishStudentVidz no stupidity flies people into the wtc, and this song has absoulutly nothing to do with religion its about the famine
