  • incredible band , huge fan!

  • does anyone know of an a cappella arrangement to this?

  • Once I was the king of Spain. Then I took an arrow to the knee.

  • They played a concert at my high school in 1993ish. The rumor was, only 8 people showed up, wasn't there so I don't know for sure. I think their music was a little mature for 14-19 year olds who were busy listening to Nirvana, Pearl Jam and A Tribe Called Quest. I always liked this song, however, and even back then kind of wished I had gone...

  • oh god it's in the wrong key D:

  • Thirty two people are members of the Spanish royal family!

  • The mustached man at 2:24 looks like Jack Layton

  • @Peter1983zzz it probably is, these wannabe hipsters are left wingers, they want to be edgey so bad.

  • witch pixel is the king of Spain?

  • hahaha, what is this??!!! Can anybody explain me the relation with our King and Pizza Hut??? crazy song but so funny...hahahaha

  • @TheSpanishMessenger It's not Pizza Hut, it's Pizza Pizza. Canadian :)

The song is essentially a modern retelling of the story The Prince and the Pauper, but with more comedy. In the original story, the son of the King of England trades places for a night with an identical looking homeless youth, but is then unable to return to his palace because he looks like the homeless guy. And because the group is Canadian, they saw fit to add Canadian references. I love this song.

  • Hey you should make a parody with Steven Harper & the this pass political race for Priministry ...... Awsome job!!! and Great taste of Choice of Musicians

  • Moxy Fruvous <3.

  • I've met both Murray and Jian <3 and they look just as good now as they ever did!

  • If I had a $1 for every pixel in that video, I'd have one dollar...

    Nevertheless it's Früvoulicious!

  • I wish I knew who the King of Spain really was...

    To Google!

  • @DocUnsane does Spain even have a King?

  • LOL.

All I can think of is camp!

  • I missed so much of the smart when I heard this as a kid. OPEC references? Just freakin' awesome.

  • i was looking for the tallest man. WOOOOOW

  • Really good :) I want some humble pie.

  • @Spottedstream1399 Take off your clothes and look in the mirror

  • best fucking song EVER!

  • When I was a kid, I thought driving a Zamboni would be an honour. I didn't get it. Fuckin Moxy Fruvous ruined my life

  • I don't care about the video quality. I've been looking for this video since I was little! Its the only version where he says hey Bush hey Yeltzin, and the HABS call him up. This is the ORIGINAL!!! Thanx so much!

  • that's some stellar hair there, jian!

  • Once I was the King of Admin.

  • @edm0nt0nian Now you eat humble pie :)

  • Sweet this is the original version with the Habs calling him up to drive the Zamboni. I hate when they changed it to "Leafs"

  • Why must acapella songs be so durned catchy?

  • @ThePoisonSword its a law

  • I agree with JRussoBuffaloNY. Absurd.

  • I love R & B a capella and R & R, but this is absurd. beisdes the blakc groups from N.Y.C., Philly, Det,Chic,Pitts,New Haven CT,L.A. had so much soul, talent and perfect harmonies. thumb down if u wish but facts is facts baby. long live doo wop! and that's, that.

  • Simon Lappin King Of Spain!

    King of Spain!!

    King of Spain!!

    Simon Lappin King Of Spain!

    He looks Spanish!!

  • And you all look a big herd of pigs

I do not understand anything of the lyrics of the song except anything relative to the king of Spain and to the national anthem of Spain

  • No my friend, you do not understand, Simon Lappin IS the king of Spain! look it up dweeb-features. On The Ball City!!!!!!!

  • The majority of the kings of Spain from the antiquity have been blond, as me, as the current prime minister, as many Spanish, as Fernando Torres. Search the current Spanish royal family

  • @iSPaLiTo

Fernando who? Never heard of him Its Simon Lappin all the way mate!!!!

  • Great song :) My Boyfriend sings this to me but changes it to Queen Katie (my name) :P <333

  • Once I was the King of Braves Now I eat humble pie.

  • @1:43 is the best

  • mike ford came to john m james in bowmanville today

  • I love this song so much.

It just makes me wanna dance and be silly!

    :D

  • The song is playing right now on my Pandora station.

  • I'd have gone with folk-pop, but that isn't important, all that is important is that, that song is such a good song.

  • This song's great!

It's like a perfect melding of Rockapella and Alan Sherman.

sneaky! 5 stars all the same.

  • i havnt heard this in a while...i think i got a little more dumb by listening to this...haha wateva its catchy!

  • you dont know music

  • Weird, for some reason I was thinking of my college daze in the early '90's and decided to pull up Rheostatics and Moxy. Moxy came to Georgian College in '93 I think, it was great, got to sing with them, as I was once a Barbershoper as they were too! Great time, great memories and would love to hear them again with thier original 4 part harmony style.

  • Man, I love this group...sorry to see they split up.

Their songs were incredibly fun and insightful at times.

  • They were friends with BNL. Some BNL members were at the album release party at Lee's Palace. BNL had sold over 50,000 copies of their cassette, which Fruvous was quite aware of. Once the Fruvous cassetted passed 40,000with no commercial radio airplay (save CFNY), Kim Cooke signed them to Warner Bros. They were (are) great guys. Creative, hard-working

hilarious, and talented. Murray now plays bass for Great Big Sea.

Doug McClement, Recording Engineer/ co-producer "Bargainville"

  • I was the recording engineer/co-producer on this song. It was recorded at Comfort Sound in Toronto in January 1992 as part of a six song cassetted release. The album was recorded at Dreamland Studios in Woodstock,NY in April 1993. David overdubbed the new Clinton/Yeltsin lyric at Comfort in May during the album mix session, otherwise the song is identical. Both were recorded on 24 track analog tape. The album took 350 hours of studio time, because the band were such perfectionists.

  • Haven't heard this in ages..thanks!

  • hehe, this is a really fun song. listen to that bass. oh man. <3

  • Does anyone know where I can find "Energy, the Pulse of Life" from the good awful video I was forced to watch in environmental science? Hell, any of the songs in that video would be nice to have :) I managed to find "Entropy" but that is my least favorite :(

  • Wow. Listening to this song is high school all over again.

  • Oooh, filmed in front of the Bloor Cinema in Toronto! I remember the restaurant Ciao! directly across the street. It was yummy! Oh, and great song of course.

  • Love these boys - love all the plaid flannel. Makes me want to move to Canada.

  • king of spain NEVER rushes!

  • NOW I VACCUM THE TURF AT SKY DOME!!! :)

  • tryed to show my dad i hated this. but i changed my mind this song Rocks LOL :)

  • They've gone sharp over the years :-) (This is in F, and on the album and since they sing it in F#)

  • these guys are so sick

    influenced by BNL

    !

  • BNL formed in '88, Moxy Fruvous formed in '89, I very much doubt that either band influenced the other overly much though I'll bet they appreciate each other's music. Both bands had a number 1 hit a few months appart from eachother (BNL's was first).

Learn your history before you start talking about it.

  • i very much doubt that you read the whole fucking biography on BNL.

    Public Stunts, Private Stories?

where members of moxy fruvous say that BNL influenced them..

and it makes tons of sense for a band of a similar genre to form a year after. thats how a certain genre gains popularity, more bands coming out and making music.

  • great song! I heard it in school and now I love it. Watch me lip syncing to it.

  • ME too i heard it in my flag dancing class. I like this song.

  • Happy belated birthday Jian! (June 9th)

  • This is my theme song, I swear!

    HA!

  • badababada! love this such a great song.

  • i knew all the words to this song when i was like, 6. i'm almost 20 now...except i know the 1993 version.

  • love this song!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • HAHAHAHA Momo YOU'RE A COMEDIC GENIUS.... sorry... its early and politics have no place in the morning

  • hahahahhaha the first time i heard this song it was in music class, everyone was laughing but then we were all singing it the next day :) its catchy!

  • this is a great song and leave amurana along

  • Man I loved these guys. This is so great. I added it to my Canadian Nostalgia playlist. Thanks so much for sharing.

  • this video is tooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo jkss man. that gezza can realy sing haha, anywho does anyone knw were i can download this song from, and please dont tell me any thing like bare share or limewire

    thanks and hahaha

  • This is off the Bargainville album. And surprisingly, I remember two versions before this one. I had the demo tape ages and ages ago before my cousin ruined it. That one called the Leafs the Habs and was even before the one that said, "Hey Clinton, Hey Yeltzin" which is before this one. Whoo!

  • whooo indeed, but do u knw any websites were i can dowload this song but not from any file sharing things like baresahe or limewire

    thanks

  • They're probably a bit too small to really be spread online. They're also from before the big 'net music craze. You might have to try and dig for the album - which is seriously worth it. One of my favourites in my collection.

  • Aite kl, thanks for dat, but in the end i told my m8 2 dowload it for me so its all kl, but thanks for dat anyways

  • The Clinton / Yeltzin version came after this one (after Bush finished his one and only term). That version appeared on the Bargainville album - not this one.

  • Actually, Clinton and Yeltzin would probably be after Bush :-)

  • You can buy from Amazon - new or used.

    at $2.54, it's a real Bargain(ville).

    :)

  • dats kl, i got the song now, but can u tell me the name of his best album coz i want to get

    thanks

  • again this is a hilourios video and i love pie!!!

  • wow that song really turns me on the guy with the pie hat needs to work on his mumbo jumbo. teehee

  • Dang I love this song!!!

  • Isn't this the "original" version of the song from their first album? A friend of mine who was a big Moxy Fruvous fan said they re-recorded it for a later release, and it was next to impossible to find the first album.

    Just curious.

  • I think you're right about that, there are two versions of this song:

1st version - "Hey _Bush_! Hey Yeltsin! Got problems? You phone me ..."

    2nd version - " Hey _Clinton_! Hey Yeltsin!" :>

  • is awesome

  • Murray's hair is SO long!

  • Can anybody tell me where to find the original?

    Xx

  • the king of spain (david) is my uncle and my grandma (davids mom) is in this video

  • Really?

  • ya i think they did it in toronto

  • Feuer frei!

  • ... Any chance that there is a better copy?!

    Or one thats in tune?

    Xxxx

  • Probably not. These are copies of videos posted at maplemusic - the quality there wasn't much to begin with. A larger size here and YouTube's compressions destroy the quality. Too bad, really.

  • That sucks penis

  • In tune? This is exactly how every copy of the song I ever hear sounded.. I am not sure if its just me but It sounds in tune... and yea the quality of the vid isnt the best

  • These were Moxy Fruvous?

  • Ah.. I love it, but it's some sort of different key or something from the normal song.. Kind of hurts..

  • "Hey Bush, Hey Yelstin"??

This must predate the Bargainville album, yes?

  • Y POR QUE NO TE CALLAS?

  • Thanks y'all.

    One of my favourite songs.

    (Especially the Cranky King version.)

  • i never got to see a show

    they are so frikin awesome
