I always thought the cure was the first goth band. They formed in 1976 and had that song boys dont cry that came out in 1979 and the album three imagionary boys came out that year as well. The cures 1st album had that gloomy absense of happiness & god, but nothing about vampires, just grey depression and perhaps death. 2 very different bands, Robert always seemed to have the funeral feel to his vocals always sad or mourning.
