  • technical foul for hanging on the rim. Two shots and the ball to offensive team.

  • clean block

  • Style Points?

  • unsportsmanlike

  • Technical I personally wouldnt call unsportsmanlike the ring grab he can clearly be T'd for however the attempt to block the shot seemed to be just that, going for the ball no mallicious intent to harm the player thats pretty clear in the second replay.

  • Techniqal foul,he grab the rim 1st b 4 da excidently kick happend since both happend nearly in a seconds i would eject da player 4 dat lol~

  • The Top Comments Has More Likes Then The Video

  • dude looked like he' s even gonna complain. you held to the rim boy, goddamn stupid. if you can do that and not called a foul, then just hang in there all game long and the other team will surely not score (unless of course goal tending, which is exactly what you did!).

  • The Dude -Grabs rim swings-

Monkey Coach-I have tought him well-

  • im pretty sure a technical foul should have been called, and have the teams best FT shooter take it...then a seperate shooting foul where the shooter gets 2 shots from the charity stripe like normal

  • legit block lmao! turbo block nba street style

  • Basketball should be only a girls sport!

  • @dabig61 Nty.

  • good savvy

  • ACTUALLY....this should be 3 calls!!!:

FOUL on the shot, so he gets an AND1.

TECHNICAL for hanging on the rim

GOALTENDING for interfering with the rim during a shot

Wow, that couldve been a 4 point play on a 2 point shot.

  • @madhazzer NO GOALTENDING...

  • he didn't really hang so it's an automatic 3 point play for goal tending and the foul. I mean if he had the ball would you honestly say he hung on the rim?

  • @dakingman007 he definetly hung onto the rim

  • They should let the technical go because it's a proud moment that a white guy got up on the rim.

  • On the slow motion, it seems that the white player hangs on to the ring to prevent him from smashing into the back of the yellow player. That's fine. Then he goes and fouls anyway by swinging a left arm at the yellow player.

  • @ggr1mr3ap3r dude relax.....1....im an official for the ncaa and observer of officials.....we can't decide whats going through the players mind....in that instance he could have felt someone was underneath him.....that is why we are only to call a t on that if there is no player ANYWHERE near and i mean ANYWHERE near the play....once again good no tech call

  • @yankeeguy0242 How could he "feel" there was anyone underneath him when he jumps face first and sees there is noone there

  • @ggr1mr3ap3r I am look directly at number 34 in the lower key he was shooting a layup....if you don't understand what i mean by anywhere near the play let me help you....if there is anyone within what would be the NBA restricted area we are gonna let it go.....if you look at the play also he lets ago as soon as he realizes he is clear.......the hanging on the rim rule was designed for a taunting act or a show up act or one in which the player is gaining an advantage....none of these happened

  • you can claim he grabbed the rim to protect himself from coming down on the offensive player....good no t call.....if there is any player within reasonable distance of the person grabbing the rim you can't t him for that

  • your suposed to call epic pwn

  • Defensive player grabs the rim to get an advantage that´s a T, but he also commits a hard foul U, he sould be disqualified. Double intention on violations.

  • Def. a Technical foul for hanging on the rim as a defender, that's actually a no-brainer

  • What a stupid defense by this guy...

  • Cain is doing great with the Braunschweig Phantoms now!

  • lol COMBO-BLOCK!!

  • Thts new.

  • @Brian211978 who u tlkin bout nigga

  • no shit thats a techinical he was hanigng on the rim

  • just T because contact was not so strong to be unsportmenlike or D... It would be my decision

  • LOLOL. That was funneh. :P

  • Goaltending and 1 would've been the correct call.

  • LOL since when was UVA ranked 4 LMAO

    go duke

  • the said there was not a player underneath him, what about the dude with the ball, yes he swings past but if he didn't grab I am fairly sure that jump would have splatted him.

  • @senluijr What are you talking about? He was already way past the guy, and only came close because of the swing!!

  • It's a goaltending, next time technical :D

  • if only that was legal

  • ouch thats a three point play but the extra point is the tech

  • you call technical unsportsmanlike and a foul

  • Legit play....no foul

  • LOL This Iz Awesome!

  • You get a technical for that? Man basketball is f'd, I thought it was a pretty sweet play LoL

  • that should of been a tech, personal, foul, and flagrant.

  • that was fun to watch

  • basket interference, not goaltending

  • thats a fair call

  • this is basket interferance. a goal tend is when the ball is over the rim.

  • Isn't that just a goal tend?

  • I think a tech being called on hanging on the rim is bullshit!

  • @rOHusted how dude? if not i could just hang on the rim all day and bloock the shit out of everyone. Its not saying its excessive and deserves a tech its saying u are not allowed to do that to gain an advantage, especially when your not even on offense.

  • what was the announcer watchin your right he was hanging on the rim he didnt see the play????

  • spiderman foul to the face

  • ITs Goal Tending

  • dunno.

  • even if he didnt get pushed, he still lost the ball so

  • i reckon it should just be a technical for holding onto the ring. but as dikurt has said, if the technical came as the player was shooting he should get 4 shots and possession. in this case i reckon 2 shots and possession should be the call.

  • just give both fouls... cant allow free wacks to the head after a play

  • You cannot call a normal foul after a technical..if you do so its an unsportsmanlike because the ball is dead

  • but there was normal foul first, then technical. he had been hit before he touched the rim (i saw just net... whatever, refs mistake)

  • he thought he had the ball...

  • that was pretty cool

  • That's called the Orangutan monkey block, haha

  • @FBKWarrior25 awsome :D:D

  • @FBKWarrior25 donkey kong !!

  • i thought he dunked the ball

  • that's a tech and a foul

tech for hanging onto the ring

and foul for, well you got eyes

  • But if you call the tech, isn't the ball now dead and any contact not part of the game. You can't call him for a foul after the tech. Not saying I think your wrong, I have eyes and it's clearly a foul. Grey area for sure.

  • not really a gray area,. definitely 2 fouls occur: a tech for hanging on the rim to gain an advantage, and a personal for the contact to the shooter.

tricky part is determining whether or not the tech occured before, during, or after the act of shooting. if before or during the act, then UT has four consecutive FT's and the ball. if after, then they'll just shoot the 2 technical shots and get possession.

personal fouls can occur during a deadball, if it ruled intentional or flagrant.

  • Gray* wtf, are you british ?

  • British ?

What would you have called ?

  • grey

  • @mrblackness3131

Firt the technical => dead ball => second foul would be ignored as long as it's not unsportsmenlike/technical

  • @mrblackness3131 Rim, not ring.

  • @WalsheyfromCAGT does it really matter? you know what i mean and so does everybody else.

  • @mrblackness3131 I only commented that to see who would hate on it! Mission accomplished.

  • @WalsheyfromCAGT ok then

  • @mrblackness3131 you cant call a T and after that a regular foul. If you want to call both, it´s a T for hanging on the rim and an unsportsmanlike for the hard impact.

  • how ever, it still was a foul

  • that was cool! haha

  • Technical

  • tht was still cool

  • and yes he blocked the shot, but only so there was no chance of a 3 point play. if you play ball you know that even after you foul you make sure that no shot gets up because then your foul was pointless.

  • reminds me of a monkey in a tree haha.

  • nice, camping on the rim i like

  • clever

  • goaltending and foul

  • yeah the dude was just making sure he didn't get undercut and get injured. no tech for the hanging on the rim, but there was contact after he let go, so personal foul there

  • Holy shit it's obvious you don't know a thing about basketball rules; go look at a rulebook before you go makin a dumbass comment like that....he grabbed and held on to the rim to block the shot, which is an attempt to gain an unfair advantage....you sound so sure in ur comment when...sadly you're dead wrong...sorry

  • alright dude he was about to get undercut as soon as he went up. i would have done the same thing to keep myself from getting hurt. you clearly don't play basketball to know what can happen when you come down on a guy like that. career ending injuries happen that way. he didn't grab onto the rim to block the shot, he grabbed onto the rim to aid in not coming down on the guy, not to block the shot. he thought he was gonna go up with him but the guy pump faked. he was about to flip over him.

  • Alright brotha,,,here's the deal..I'm a HUGE ball fan, played it all my life, and am a college basketball official. If you'll look more on the comments there are a few other officials that have commented on the play and agree with me as well. Ur right.....it IS legal to prevent an injury..you have to picture what would have happened if he didn't grab the rim...he would have kept going in the direction he was goin and there would have been NO injury. The only time someone was underneath was when

  • he had swung around and blocked the shot. There are 2 parts-he hung on the rim to prevent an injury (I disagree) but when he blocks the shot THAT is where the technical should have been called. Regardless of the reason for hanging on the rim as a defender you CANNOT block a shot while ur hanging on the rim! Under no cirmumstance is that a legal play. Had he not blocked/committed the foul, then maybe you could let it slide. The simple fact is that the refs need to grow ball and call these plays.

  • I agree completely.

  • Technical foul for hanging on the basket and unsportsmanlike foul for the foul.

  • how can u get an unsportsmanlike foul? thats a personal foul.

  • how did this get a thumbs down? there's no such thing as an unsportsmanlike foul in BBall, it's a personal, a technical, or a flagrant, that's it

  • Ur....sort of right...it would be a technical foul for any kind of unsportsmanlike conduct or act

  • Technical for hanging on the rim...I'm not sure about unsporting???

  • he shouldn't have hung in the first place.

  • you can hang on the rim in a situation like that so you don't cause injury to yourself as well as the player under the basket.

  • that's right but he blocks the shooter for like intentional way,

  • no you cant thats only if you have the ball and are going for a dunk, he was the defender so he was not allowed to grab onto the rim

  • he hung on for a second to prevent an injury to the offensive player so no technical and no unsportsmanlike foul because it wasn't heavy

  • Wrong!!!!!!!!!!!!!! He hung on the rim and gained an unfair advantage to block the shot....not legal son...he might have been able to get away with it if he hadn't tried to block the shot and commit the foul, but once he did try it's obvious he was doing more than just preventing an injury

  • looked like a double dribble to me

  • its called a pound dribble you get away with it most of the time

  • You get away with it most of the time because its not a double dribble or any other violation. Totally legal move.

  • nahh you can do it once in the post but you can't do it twice

  • how the hell do you get a double dribble from that

  • It's actually called a power dribble and technically it is a double dribble because by rule you cannot dribble the ball with both hands at the same time, but in the post it has been allowed for years

  • No, it's a legal move. Double dribble is defined as starting your dribble, then stoping, and then starting again. And stopping your is defined in several different ways. So I suppose a power dribble is not double dribble because of a technicallity. But it is legal by the rule book.

  • So it would be OK for a guard to bring the ball upcourt driblling the ball with both hands? So if your answer is no then why can a post player do it? The college rule I found online is vague but I can tell you in the NFHS rule book dribbling with 2 hands is a violation.

  • A double dribble is when you dribble, grab the ball with two hands, then dribble again, so technically its not a double dribble cause he dribbled and then stopped his dribble by holding it with two hands but never dribbled again. your example would be a double dribble cause he stopped his dribble then started again. Note the fact that when you use a power dribble your only allowed one dribble.

  • " you are right you are right.. HE WAS HANGING ! ".. lol

  • It would have been goal tending because it wasn't an offensive player who going for the ball. Plus there was no chance of the shot going in so there's no way it was going to be made.

For the Technical foul if you're hanging on the rim and there's no one below you then it's a technical. There was someone below the player at the time that made it a more dangerous situation if he hadn't hung on the rim. So there was no need for a technical foul.

  • to the goaltending comment. goaltending is hitting the ball while in its downward flight it should have been basket interference if anything. As with anyhing in baskteball you are looking for an advantage or disadavantage created for either the offense or defense by an action. The point of this post though is the basket interference.

  • haha white people must hold the rim to be in the air for 1 second but james and kobe can jump easy for 2 seconds HAHAHA

  • um, vika....its physically impossible to be in the air for a second..nice try though.

  • no its not impossible look when robinson dunked over spudd

  • try watching sport science...Michael Jordan .9 seconds. almost but not

  • I think it was like .94 to add onto your comment.

  • you'd need a 16 foot vertical to hand in the air for 2 seconds. It's that damn acceleration due to gravity. Sorry to hit you with knowledge like that

  • maybe he watched kobe and james dunk in slow motion. Like on a replay or something.

  • I am a referee and him using the rim to stay in the air and possibly blocking the shot is a technical foul. He is on defense, there is no reason for him to grab the rim

  • thats wrong but so fuckin smart lol unsportsmanlike i dont think so he lost his head its like when u get beat while stickin D and da guy jets 4 da rim u grab his jersey it happens u apologize and keep it movin (some ppl do it all the time it is a diff

  • I know there was technical foul after he touched the rim, but is there a specific rule saying you can't hang on the rim?

  • yes

  • yes there is

  • I'm no referee, but I would have called it goal tending for shaking the rim

  • Thats all ball ha

  • very funny but i agree with CAScreaminDude

  • Technical foul for grabbing the rim.

Any illegal contact that occurred after that call (eg: when he fell down) could correctly be called a second technical foul (though this would be quite ticky-tacky)

  • Agreed, but you got to admit. That does take some corrdnation.
