@KllassIIK I am unable to notice any lag at all. I don't think it would make much, if any difference.
Unless you are one of those people who refuse to use wireless controllers and such, to give you every last split second of an upper hand over other people, I don't think it would present a problem.
DO NOT BUY THIS WORTHLESS PROJECTOR - MY LAMP BULB burned out after less than 150 hours. I bought the unit in March 2010 and Optoma will NOT REPLACE the bulb because it is past their pathetic 90 lamp warranty. What a FUCKING SCAM - I thought these bulbs would last 2000 to 3000 hours. So do the math - 150 hours and $250 for the bulb. What a fucking bunch of assholes! Chinese made shit with no warranty to back it - DO NOT BUY THIS PROJECTOR!
Hi t3hmauler, thinking of getting an hd65 - Was wondering if you can project the image from an angle (eg. on a table in the corner of the room onto the screen thats in the middle of the wall)? Can you adjust the image so it will look normal?
@CraigMcAllisterMusic I'm not so sure about that, sorry. I can tell you that it does have vertical keystone, which allows you to adjust the image vertically, but I'm not sure how it would work horizontally. The only real drawback to this projector is how limited your placement would have to be. If you have to project an image from the corner of the room, it might be better to get a different model which is more versatile.
@jossball I just project mine directly onto the wall and it works fine. If you bought a screen, it would make the picture better, but it's all up to how much you want to spend.

@mycatisromeo lol optoma actually makes many other brand projectors like Mitsubishi. I have had my hd65 and have installed 3 refurb units over a year ago with no issues.... You likely didnt pay attention to the do s and donts or projector use like never turn it off then back on when still hot and cycle the bulb as least as possible. (every time you fire the bulb up it burns about 2hrs off the bulb life so leaving it on all day is better than on and off multiple times. and dont bump it.
I have a very small room... and where i want the screen the projector would be 8 ft away. And i want my screen to be about 50'' high and 75'' wide do you think i would be able to do that? I also have a fair amount of light coming in my window...would it be okay?
@littlechef802 You would probably only be able to get around 60" wide and 33" high with that much room. The lighting would be OK, but it would be best if you can close blinds or have curtains in front of the windows during the day time.
Have read reviews online that state some of the bulbs go out pre-mature_before rated lamp lifespan. How long have you had yours? Where did you buy it? Did you get a warrnt?
@Unity0Is0Power I've had mine a little over a year. I got it from Amazon and my bulb blew up with around 500 hours on it. It was still under the 1 year factory warranty, but the bulb was out of warranty. I ended up calling Optoma and they fixed it at no charge, other than the shipping cost to send it to them, plus I was out of a projector for a month, but it was good of them to take care of it at no cost since this does seem to be a pretty well known problem.
thanks for the info. I just bought mine form amazon as-well. I was looking at the HD66 because the optoma website states it has a longer lasting bulb. Do you know anything about the HD66? Im starting to think I should return the HD65 back and get the HD66 because of the longer bulb life, what you think.
I don't know anything about the 66, but you should be ok with the 65. I'm pretty impressed with Optoma taking responsibility for their product failing like it did for me, and if you have any problems and just call them and try to work it out, they should help you without it being an issue. On the other hand, since the 65 has suffered from this problem, and the 66 is said to have a better bulb, they might not be as quick to help if you have the same problem with a 66, but I can't say for sure.
It should be pretty good. You might need to play around with the settings a bit to get the colors just right. You also might want to choose "cool" from the color temp. menu, it will probably be defaulted to "warm" which produces more of a pinkish color on a beige or off white wall.
I'm thinking about buying this one. I can get it for about $640 plus free shipping NEW at amazon. Is it worth that? I wanted a HD DLP with HDMI and that seems like a great price. What do you think?
hey how you get the color so good i mean did you calibrate it, how do u set your settings i just got one how to set brightness or white, red???????? help
There are no built in speakers. You have to either hook your output source (DVD, Blu-ray, Xbox, Playstion, etc.) into either surround sound or some sort of other external sound system. You can do that by using a digital optical cable, or RCA cables.
I asked a similiar question quite some time ago. I suggest getting a receiver that process both sound and video through hdmi. I did that and its amazing. I have only tested it with ths projector and it works but I have yet to install a screen or mount my projector.
Yeah, what you would do is run the wires from your source (DVD player, game console, etc.) straight into the stereo. The only thing you would plug into the projector itself would be the video source, not audio.
Hm. There's no audio cable when connecting my ps3 with hdmi though. HDMI is both audio and video. Wonder if maybe i could use a combination of hdmi+the old component audio cable i have for the ps3
thats exactly what i plan on doing. i cant decide which to buy. i want a relatively cheap one but capable of true 1080i and 1080p. is this optoma capable? or can it only achieve "1st level HD" aka 720p?
The HD65 is 720p, and the image is great, but Optoma also makes a 1080p projector that runs around $1000 now. I don't know a lot about it, but judging by the quality of my projector, I'm sure it's the best 1080p projector on the market for such a low price.
Cool, thanks. I wonder if/when they higher end projectors will drop in price? I'm talking about the really good ones in the 3k-10k range. Do you think there's really much of a practical advantage to the more expensive ones?
If you spent 3-10k for one, I'm sure it would be higher quality, but I doubt it would be worth the extra cash. Someday, 1080p will be the norm and be really cheap, so if you don't mind waiting, I'm sure the deals will only get better from here.
Yea good point. I don't think I've seen a true 1080p projector for under maybe 900 bucks. I've been looking at them for days. I don't want to wait lol. I may get a refurb, if i can find one with a warranty. Basically aiming for the cheapest 1080p projector I can find...
Buy some screen paint on Ebay. The stuff sold by Projection Science is the best one I've tried. It made a huge improvement over my white wall. It was pretty cheap too.
looks like you answered my question. b/c i reading up on projectors b/c i dont know much about them. and some were saying you need light. and my room is in the basement so it is very dark. but looks like your room is dark too. and with the size of my room i will be having about the same size screen as yours. umm can i ask you if you use a screen or just project it on your wall?
I just project it on my wall. I painted my room a slightly off-white color and it looks pretty good. As long as you have a nice flat wall then it should work great.
My walls has knockdown on it. So it is bumpy. But my room gets DARK so we will see if i notice. I think I am going with the Vivitek H1080. Its the same price as the optoma hd20 but with better features and performance.
What are you using for sound? I have the same projector but am looking for a sound system. I am thinking of an AVR that has HDMI repeater so I can get sound from HDMI rather than optical.
Could be the camera, or it could be the color of the wall I am projecting it on. I will most likely get a screen or make one myself but I am just getting by with my wall for now. Obviously the picture looks much better in person, so maybe the combination of the off-color wall and the quality from the camera make it look a bit off.
THe off color? Or it could be ragvsta monitor? Any way it looks great to me @ 1 shot it looks like a real car ur making a vid of. I've always heard/seen good things from the HD65. Enjoy!
couldnt care less doesnt look off color to me, minimal even if it is,, this projector looks amazing i want one,, from what ive seen on youtube this looks better than the hd720x
Yes, the picture is very impressive. I did change the color temperature however to cold, and now the whites look white, compared to pinkish color due to my beige colored wall. I plan on paining the room soon, and will probably end up paining it white.
It's one of those things where the warmer beige colors add a nice skin tone to movies, but the colder true whites make colors really pop. It's all personal preference.
you should keep you room that color if you like it, and just paint the wall white where the screen will be.. put a black border around it looks pretty cool.... it would look better than having a complete white room,,
ive seen some guy on here that has a black border on a white wall that says bravia at the top in cut out,,, i wouldnt mind doing that myself
I have this on a 84" 16:9 screen.Quality off this beemer is superb.Halo 3 has never looked so good.Any CGI film like Ice Age,Cars,Nemo etc will blow you away.Get it hooked upto a decent surround for best results. This beemer is 10/10.
Not too bad, if you have a good surround sound system you won't be able to hear it at all, unless there is a moment where there is no audio, then you might hear it just a bit.
I'm sure it would look great on your screen, I wish I could have a larger screen but since I have only so little room to work it, I have to settle for 80", but the picture quality is very impressive.
i heard very positive stuff about this projector it is great for it's price,i'm thinkin about 5.1. surround sound connected to a pc like the optoma projector
