  • excelente maestro,congratulation

  • This is a true Master Conga Player. My first LP was Candido. He could play so melodically, that I had to pick up a Conga and I wanted to play 1/2 of what he played.

  • Dig that little Manteca quote in there. I always appreciated Candido's melodic approach to conga playing. That's what distinguishes him from the rest.

  • Primera vez que los escucho. Me quedé muda!!! IMPRESIONANTE!! Gracias internet por estas maravillas

  • Like Patato once said, to play congas, you must treat them like a woman. You must caress them and be gentle to get what you want out of them.

  • 3 people hate music

  • love the relaxed way he gets the tumbao out of the drums. Not mad crazy on the quite straight formulas he uses for the solos.

  • top of the conga.

  • genius

  • Candido.very cool!!!!!!

  • candido is a genius, its performance is unmistakable, is identified with ease. even by leigos.quem was once you connect, and says: I know is beating, is the dance of black candido.na in Brazil, capoeira is that it has a song that says; if black is good, clap for ele.candido deserves because he's great.

  • simple congo playing is not bad at all....

    i love this video!

  • When he threw that Mateca quote in I nearly choked. Beautiful.

  • MUITOS ESTÃO PREOCUPADOS EM ATAQUES RÁPIDOS,E COMPLICADOS GOLPES. CANDIDO É UM GENIO ,UM ATQUE SIMPLES ,QUE UM LEIGO ,INDENTIFICA COM FACILIDADE, E DIZ CONHEÇO ESTA BATIDA. É CANDIDO.

  • why is he a legend?? he plays conga like a beginner to me. I'm not even impressed

  • As a Conga player for many years, I appreciate Candido's performance. His sound and beat are classic. Thanks Maestro.

  • 打的好穩哈哈~~但手一定痛壞了~~~

  • Candido is such a beautiful musician.

  • It´s only another concept of the conga drums.....no problem!!!!!!

  • JazzVideo Guy, I respect your opinion, but I wonder if you are truly listening to the descarga that candido bring when he plays.

  • this is beautiful...tooo beautiful

  • As someone who has played the congas for 50 years I can tell you that is one of the most amazing performances I have ever heard. As to the tin eared smucks who talk about the sound of the drums: this is straight ahead jazz not latin music fool! The genius in this performance is not only that it is rhythmically complex , but that he is playing melodically. If you can't hear that you should shut the fuck up!!!!

  • @TheViewFromSugarHill wow. your ignorant point of view nearly overshadows your lack of manners.

  • candido is very good.

  • Candido is like 1000 year's old of course he doesn't play like he was young but we should pay respect to all musician's cause they gave us something to strive for.

  • Крутой мужик!!!

  • He's old in that video...You had to catch him at his prime...look up this song Mambo king on CD..with Red Garland and hear his bongo solo....then you'll know what skill he had .......age catches up with you and your playing

  • The Gran MASTER of Congas "CANDIDO CAMERO"

  • Billy Taylor has a joyous sound.

  • wow he melodically quoted manteca WITH DRUMS! AMAZING!

  • maybe his fingers just...hurt

  • Ay que rico!!

  • here is not how is better candido y patato y otros grandes mas fueron los que inventaron lo que hoy disfrutamos

  • more like Bongo Inn lol!!

  • LOL

  • The great thing about Candido is that he really has his own style, his unique way of playing and a very nice feel even without all the flashy chops and speed. He's always in the groove, and plays with a great melodic concept. Long live Candido!

  • As of april 23 2009 candido turned 88 yrs old

  • The Great Candido.......Awesome

  • i like tata guines , and patato better.

  • @MrsRoman4eva Tin Cans?

  • yea when hes doing those riffs

  • i respect the man for all hes contributed to music and for being an old timer, its just my opinion .

  • @MrsRoman4eva. I watched this video and thought to myself Candido had gotten a little old by this time, but still sounds good. He was one of the first Cuban drummers who had learned how to interface well with American jazz players, Then as I scrolled down to the comments, I thought to myself, I'll bet some armchair quarterback found something wrong with this, and lo and behold, there you are, predictable.

  • @JazzVideoGuy

I respect your opinion, but I wonder if you are truly listening to the descarga that candido bring when he plays.

  • @MrsRoman4eva I see where you're coming from, but Candido still plays with great precision and soul here. I can dig it! He's the real deal.

  • I have to say I was offended when I first read your comment, but then I watched the video...

So, I've heard some recordings where Candido sounds incredible but yeah IMO this isn't one of them. Some of those solo spots sounded like rock and roll tom tom fills. I'm not hearing much syncopation or afro cuban flavor. I'm sure I'll get flamed for saying this about a legend, but honestly if I watched this with my eyes closed I'd probably imagine Ringo Starr giving it a go on the skins

  • @MrsRoman4eva its because you gave no talent bro

  • @MrsRoman4eva If he does not impress you is probably, because you are use to see the wanna be conga players that use a non conga technique to play, and you should listen to the MELODY he plays he's one of the few conga players that plays with a musical sense. He is also 1 of the Conga Kings, along with Carlos "Patato" Valdez (RIP) and the great virtuoso Giovanny Hidalgo. The congas do not sound like cans, you probably have some cheap ass speakers in you computer they are musically tuned.

  • @salsoso1 is true, and beatiful tuned, in thay way is a sophisticated congo players musician

  • @salsoso1 is true, and beatiful tuned, in thay way is a sophisticated congo player musician

  • This relieves me of stress.

  • Rap peole should be awarded singing lessons.

Veganeata(I love vegans really but I couldn't eata full one)

  • Amazing how Candido can make so much sound without hardly touching the congas :-) I wonder how old he is?Must be getting on...

  • 88 going on 89

    -courtesy of Wikipedia

  • no me jodas esta chingonsisimo¡

  • I LOVE THIS!!!

  • Candido repeats his conga slaps, nothing fresh, nothing out of this world, very basic, Williams on bongitos holds steady

  • white guys trying to play MAMBO

    please....

  • Please....

Explain which white guys? The Cuban Candido, or the African-American Billy Taylor?

It's Jazz, not Rumba, Salsa Dura or Salsa Typica... C'mon, man...

  • It's Jazz alright, but LATIN in capitals, the bass is playing is playing traditional tumbadora patterns, and that's a traditional 3/2 son montuno clave, played throughout. Don't know much about B. Taylor, but lovely melodies, he def, got latin chops on this one, gonna check him out thanks for educating me JV Guy!

  • What? White guys cant play mambo? If you want to get in to that black and white thing lets do. Sure you people started this music, but only in music you may steal from others ;) Cmon , the colour doesent count , its whats in you , what you ramain of. Bring some love , and you will get it back people :)

  • UNFUCKINFBELIVIEABLE!!!!!!!!!!!! Candido is GOD's gift to the congas and music! And Mr. Billy Taylor ur no slouch either.

  • OMG I LOVE THIS!!! i have no idea how many times ive seen this video lol

  • Amazing!!!!!!!!!!

  • candido esta mas fallo que el muchacho del medio..le falta mas mucho mas para tocar como un latino...

  • Candido is a musical genius, without question. I hope that he has gotten the credit of which he is so deserving, like induction into some "musical hall of fame." Originating the use of 3 Congas instead of just one, isn't a bad achievement!!!

  • Great clip!. BTW, Candido's last name is Camero, not Cameron as listed in the notes.

  • fantastic!

  • Its like he's playing a melody with his drums behind the beat. I like that.

  • Bravo!!!

  • Can't find the words.

  • Genius! End of story. Thank you very much.

  • candido...mr. thousandfingerman himself...wow the man is amazing

  • What a wonderful arrangement! I cherish the two Candido LPs I have: one from th3e early years, the other from the disco era. via el gran congero!!

  • thousand fingered man!!

  • Great Video! Candido is the best! However, his last name is spelled incorrectly. It is Candido Camero......no "n" at the end. Thanks.

  • really sweet!

  • Thank you oh omniscient one for these awesome spirits.

  • yeah man. Love it. thanks

  • Thank you.. this is beautiful, enjoyed it very much.
