After graduating, I up and left for the West Coast. I married, had kids, and 15 years later ended up back East again. I can't begin to describe the impact this song has on me. Still love it. To me, it means - live life, enjoy.
My name is Fernanda and I live in Brazil. Roger Hodgson has been my favorite singer/composer/musician for nearly 30 years. I used to think that the Supertramp affair (Rick Davies playing Roger’s songs) was not of my concern. But now, after attending to 3 Roger Hodgson’s concerts and realizing he is still my favorite artist, after receiving so much from him through his songs, I started wondering if I could be of any help.
This song is played in many movies, yet it truly is an amazing song. It's a song that makes you think, Hey we have to take the long way home sometimes, just to get our lives or think about life and how we appreciate it. Beautiful song.
takes me back to when I was 14 and living in La Jolla, a turning point in my life, which had it not occurred, would surely be vastly different today. Love the song, but HATE this version!
Just great im working right now and i listen a lot of supertramp and my boss is saying stop listening to music while working ! he can go fuck a goat that fucking jewish bastard !!!
hola, soy de monterrey, escuche esta cancion hace muco,,me gusto el grupo y ahora disfruto sus canciones, in english, I heard thies group 10 years ago,,,,likes me music and his songs.
Note that this performance is from 2006... This guy sounds spot on from when he was playing in the 70s-80s. I would not hesitate to see him live with Supertramp or solo; come the opportunity of course.
sounds like i'm bragging. whcih i suppose i am... but that's not my intention! i'm going to a festival over easter in nrthern nsw, aus.... he's playing.
Take the Long Way Home is such a meaningful song on so many levels. What an absolute gem from writer/composer Roger Hodgson. I never tire of watching his DVD, Live in Montreal. It's like getting a private concert.
Roger you've still got it man. Your songs have kept me warm for years and it's great to see you are still going strong. I Love this song and my next favorite is Logical Song. Would love to see some recent performances of Fool's Overture.
I Love Roger's music. Never get tired of these songs. I play them over and over again. He is by far one of the most talented songwriters of all time. I liken him to the caliber of Lennon and McCartney. So moving, real and relatable. Thanks Roger. I will always be one of your biggest fans. Looking forward to seeing you in Canada this fall. Last time I saw him it was one of the most magical experiences I have ever had. Felt like he was playing right to me. Very intimate and wonderful.
I just got that DVD and it is so fantastic!! I love seeing Roger play live. He has such incredible stage presence and warmth that comes out when he sings. He's so personal with the audience. I would agree this captures him at his best. It was Roger and Roger's songs that made Supertramp. I am so happy he is touring and making fans like me happy all over the world.
Roger is my favorite artist and one of the most distinctive and beautiful voices of today, he was originally the voice of Supertramp. Co-founding the band in 1969, he was the lead singer and writer of nearly all their hits throughout the seventies and early eighties. Since leaving Supertramp in 1983 he has had a series of critically acclaimed and successful solo albums. Roger has put out a DVD, LIVE IN MONTREAL, the first live release from Roger, and it catches Roger Hodgson at his very best.
Roger Hogdson is a total revelation to me. So many of his songs are my all time favorites: Breakfast in America, The Logical Song, The Long Way Home, Dreamer, Give A Little Bit (all of them performed by Roger but recognized by many as Supertramp songs). Roger Hogdson is the genius behind them all as he was the original composer, writer as well as the voice, guitar, etc of 29 of Supertramp's 32 Hits on the Record Charts.
part two of hte guestbook message: Also talked to Chris Thompson, Steve Lukather, Michael McDonald and many others about helping us and would love to have you on board too
You are one of the greatest musicians on this planet
I have met you before when I was in the Merseybeats, and I wrote Paul McCartney's fav song and have six bands I am now working with including working with members of the Alan Parsons Porject
I found this on Roger's guestbook and thought it was great response to people complaining about artist's copy rights. I am talking with many bands about ILLEGAL DOWNLOADING OF MUSIC which is now about 95% leaving only 5% paid for. This is VERY UNFAIR and Tony Bramwell and Jack Oliver from the BEATLES are helping me with this campaign to help educate the next generation about the consequences of stealing Intellectual Property
I agree, roger is all about hope and love and peace, it's kind of funny to see posts where people are complaining or spewing their anger, it's so not cool and is completely opposite of Roger's message. be cool, post responsibly and show respect to other fans that like the music and get the real message.
wow, I love watching Roger in this video, he's great. and megakippers is a fan like i am, and it's so not cool at all to bash her. it's kind of a bummer to read people's negative comments that are just from anger and have nothing to do with Roger or Supertramp or the music. "it's about the music man"
She is NOT the Roger H. fan she pretends to be in all the RH and ST threads. She terrorises fans & threatens them, EVEN if they do comply to her "nice" requests (mentioning RH as the composer & RH's site).

this song is about finding and giving to yourself.maybe its time u please yourself in life. people change, but u wake up with yourself EVERY day. the long way home to me means after life fucks with u in the end its about finding inner peace, hopefully with a loved one, but if not with THE loved one, yourself. make sense? im kind of drifting but it makes all the sense in the world to me!

Not long ago, while hiking in rural Quebec, I asked a young woman for directions. The little peasant girl, who was leading a sheep, replied: "OOH! I no speakie ze Anglais! Howz vous wishy a lil Frenchie-style sex, eh?" This song reminds me of that delightful experience.
