Earlier this evening, I tried unsuccessfully to post a bunch of messages on this site. I have no idea what the problem was with the system. I am now submitting this comment to see if the situation has been corrected. One can hope!
I had no idea that Richard Hunt was gay! Very interesting! Also, I wonder if he was related to Helen Hunt who is my favorite actress. My guess would be no. Given how famous both of them are/were, I would have probably read or heard about it if they were relatives.
That song was so awsome!!! Thanks for posting this! BTW, does anyone have the song the song a different cow sings about what we do with our noses? It has the part that goes "What do you do with a cold or the flu? Just achoo, achoo, achoo".
@jmmuppetman she's proud proud proud to be a pig, her skin is rough and bristly, her meat can be quite gristly, she thinks that every pig should bow, you dig?
Wow, I really miss Gladys a lot. Good ol' Richard Hunt. There was nobody like him and his charachters. They brought Gladys back in 2003 for a few years, played by Jennifer Barnhart. But it just wasn't the same. Nobody can replace Richard's wonderful charachters that I grew up with in the 80's. He was a great man.
I actually think I like Jennifer Barnhart better. She makes it more convincing that the character is a female. Despite the "Gladys" name (and the character being a cow), I actually thought the character was supposed to be a guy all this time.
I had no idea Sesame Street was so queer friendly, even back then! This is a rare classic in drag culture. If I ever open a gay bar, I'm DEFINITELY showing this on a huge screen in the background during parties! Rock on, Jim Henson.
Find the episodes when Gladys was on Guy Smiley's show....there was one with Here is your Life about Milk...One where she pops her head in behind the curtain at the end of the show..and another where she starts out with Guy but she was thrown backstage or something??? I remember she did a duet with Clementine, one episode she was chillin in between
Snuffy and Big Bird, She hosted Sesame Street once with Buster, she did a magic trick with Marvin....find as much as u can haha
I thought this was from 1983. I have an old episode where this is the first scene. Was it being reused there? I didn't know they ever did that with opening street scenes, but I guess that would explain how Olivia's hair magically grew about a foot from the episode that aired just three weeks before that one. (Olivia's part in this scene is cut out here, which is too bad, since at the end of the song you get to see the expression on her face. :)

@Ashenpelt - Richard Hunt was gay, he puppeteered this character. Which is probably why she sounds like a drag queen.

@Rkerekes13 - I personally like to think of this song as a tiny bit of gay pride, as Richard Hunt was gay.

I admit I used to be confused about whether Gladys was a girl or not, lol. And I do think there should be more female Muppeteers.
Still, I think Richard Hunt's performance was incredibly inspiring here. :)

It kinda sounds like the cow was a tad confused too. it happens.

@LincolnHeightsrocks And maybe they could reintroduce Forgetful Jones played by Jerry Nelson instead of Richard.
