@Gogoleila nah pretty much all daily show correspondents are like this with the exception of Jon himself. They are always overly dramatic and hyperbolic.
I started having this on over Christmas when I lived in an apartment in Vancouver, and had no fireplace. It's really very relaxing! My sister-in-law and I used to watch and every time the arm came along to stoke the fire we would take a drink! :) I live in Victoria now and still have it on from time to time over the holidays. People here love it!
I live in Florida, and on our Christmas Yule Log government channel my friend (who did the "show") actually put on a long sleeved flannel shirt in 90 degree weather when he stoked the fire, just to give it an authentic look. The man suffered for his art.
god, this is despicable, i can't believe this burning log crap. i can't believe how offensive this is, not to mention how dangerous it would be, what if the confusion regarding whether my tv is on fire or not allows the fire to spread? something needs to be done about this.
This is so awesome. I used to volunteer in that TV studio. I can't believe Daphne got interviewed by Steve Carrell...that's so awesome. Burning logs, The Fishtank Channel, Victoria has some slow TV...haha.
Shaw Cable has taken it off the air again: it's now Pay Per View! Something like $0.99 for two hours or something. But proceeds go to charity, Shaw claims.

Steve Carell is so subtle and deadpan with his humor. It worked perfectly for the Daily show and the Office. I also like his movies. The guy's hilarious.
Various versions of this video now air regularly over the Christmas season in numerous cities throughout North America. The first televised "Yule Log" was a short film loop aired by WPIX in New York City in 1966 and for many years afterwards. The "Burning Log" video rekindled that concept and really popularized the practice amongst cable companies and broadcasters in Canada.
The protest was a real albeit tongue-in-cheek response to the notion that so many people were watching a fireplace on TV while at the same time enjoying something called "conversation".
The Daily Show was not nearly so popular back then - a lot of people who worked at Shaw TV hadn't heard of it. Steve Carell was not the household name he now is.
The people interviewed knew they were participating in a comedy sketch of course, but had no idea how stupid they would be made to look.
this was a long time as you can see by how young Jon Stewart is but the first year after they stopped showing the log there were protests (light hearted) until they put it on again for one day so people could tape it. (see how old, I said "tape")
I work with these people, they are real and knew about the interview being a hoax LOL...man I am glad we renovated as the old building now looks so ghetto.
I live in Victoria. The protesters have to be fake, and I could tell Daphne was hamming it up - she was awesome. But the log is real, everyone tries to spot the hand when it replenishes the wood. Hilarious video!
I live in Victoria, and this is freakin' hilarious!!!! In all seriousness, the "Christmas Log" is kinda nice, if you don't have a fireplace. Most other TV sucks ass anyway!
Fuck this is amazing. If this guy was a fictional character he'd be the work of a comedic genius. I'm just dumbfoiled at the thought of such an individual being real.
@rrtodd95 Oh I'm not surprised. They did not make that sketch based on nothing. They are idiots everywhere in the planet. Including in Canada. I know that for fact because I'm Canadian, and I sure met some pretty dummy people.
Yep - they're for real. Steve was very good at making people appear a lot dumber than they were, but the people interviewed in this piece were particularly... naive.
The burning log show is a tradition in Victoria. It runs from Dec 1 to Jan 1 every year. The highlight is when the arm comes & pokes the fire...and it leaves no-one (that I know anyway) "dumbfoiled". Long live the Log Show!!!

"Shedule" is the correct Canadian pronunciation, based on the correct British pronunciation of the word "schudule".

I live in Victoria, and I worked in that very Shaw building!! I was a sales rep there. Great place to work :)
The video was staged and edited obviously, Daphne was in on it and the protesters are clearly fake. That other guy I don't know about though!
Everyone knows who Steve Carell is though, I mean come on.. Shaw is a TV broadcasting station of course they're going to know it's the Daily Show!
