  • where can u buy a clicker

  • @nahtin123 Online and from most pet stores.

I got one and it was a package. Which came with a clicker with three noise levels, a treat bag and a bag of mixed treats. It cost me £13 which is about 20 dollars.

Or you could just buy a clicker on its own for £2 or $3

  • carevomito

  • great dog and great raining and thnx for help

  • I put a sausage on the floor and turn around it so my dog gets distracted then I pick it up and give it to him saying "Good Dog"

  • thumbs up if those videos help you

  • i dont own a dog, nor have i ever owned one, and yet i enjoy watching these videos.

  • You're videos are doing so well. When I used to walk my rottweiler it used to be pull, pull, pull. Now when i walk sampson, For a short distance I didn't even have a hold of his leash. Thanks tab for the help in your videos. LOL didn't realize this looks like a statement for a infomercial. Also why is he on a towel. Just wondering!

  • I want to train my puppy to be all he can be,I'm trying to follow your advice.thanks for the help.

  • Great.

  • man this is a great video. my dog is doing it perfectly. A BIG thanks for this video

  • I bet he only thinks thats the candy-clicker. "When he clix i getz tha candy!"

  • @MultibaWz not funny.

this isn't some dumb caturday bullshit

  • @swiftroll If you look at it one way it is funny xD but i know what it is for.

  • We just adopted a three month old border collie yesterday. These videos are very helpful in thinking about what to start with and not expecting too much! Great videos!

  • I love your videos! I have a Great Dane Pup and your videos have been amazing! Thank you so much!! My dog is doing fantastic thanks to you!!

  • Man we need actions not verbal lectures

  • good video i am training my dog now without rewards and so far it is working great.

  • for a matter of fact anything which is moving around (like ppl, other pet ya anything....)

  • i don't understand the point of the clicker on this one, it seems to random, can you explain it more

  • my dog's biggest destraction is eather water bottles or dogs barking

  • your videos are awesome, I had a large mix breed that was given to me & never needed training, as if he already knew to sit stay, respect, potty in the woods, nearly human...I had to put him to sleep after 16 years. After months of being without a dog , I found a standard poodle pup & he is a nightmare, ran wild for too long. I'm unable to find a trainer in the area, so your videos are most appreciated. Standard Poodles aren't as smart as people portend them to be! This one is so stubborn.

  • try teaching a chiwawa this, hope u have a virtue called patience

  • I have two puppies, same age. What can i do to keep them from distracting each other? Do I work with them one at a time?

  • Biggest distraction? Squirrels!

  • Just started tonight. This is definitely going to take a while. :)

  • where do i get the clicker

  • @RealMaratron They sell them at pretty much every pet store. Amazon has them with a great little book. You can search Karen Pryor, Getting Started: Clicker Training for Dogs Kit

  • wow you are amazing!!! defo gonna use these to guide me, your obviously a natural!

  • Great video. I like the way you break things down. Make more!!!

  • my 8 week old german shepherds favorite toy is an empty fanta bottle. lol. :]

  • Tab I am so glad I found your channel. It is so good to see such positive methods to train my GSD.

  • what is "clik clik" can use something else

  • @babi123babi456 Yea a consisten word like 'Yes!'

  • I love ur videos but my dog jus gets up and licks me please help

  • Hey man love ur vids! U have a great dog. I wanted to ask how can we get in contact with u. Cause we know ur in Dubai. We wold like to meet!

  • I like your videos! Informative, well spoken, easy to watch. Going to start on your method today!

  • Other dogs distract my dog. He runs to the neighbors dogs if they happen to be outside when we are out. ~English bulldog~

  • 1:54 dog say wheres ma food man!!!

  • (this is sorta a second part to my last comment -- i ran outta room lol) If you do respond to my comment please don't think that I am ignoring you if I don't reply back, I usually don't get on my account like on my channel I watch videos all the time and I guess I stay signed in I just don't check any of my things really (I only have 5 videos up) thanks again for any feedback! :)

  • so far I have watched several of your videos and I actually like how you work. I have tired watching "It's Me or the Dog" and I did try a couple of her methods but my dog is too hyper when it comes to food (I should say "treats" she isn't hyper when I go to put her "food" down for her to eat)... I have a Puggle (Beagle/Pug mix) and she has hyperness towards any treat i try and use for any trick/obedience (I don't know what I am doing lol) and I got her when she was 4 years old (July 2nd, 2010)

  • First, your videos are awesome. I did fine training my husky from a puppy, but I just adopted an older dog I plan to use for animal assisted therapy and need her be 100% on her game consistently. The husky is only about 80%. What I like is that you stand by the conditioning and staging techniques I'm learning in human psychology. Thanks for explaining all your rationale, it make so much of a difference in training the trainer.

Anyway, my horses are the biggest distraction for the husky. HELP!

  • i work on leadership also, but i cant trust this dog never!

  • for my border collie, huge distractions r lezard, rats and the street dog, who come every day to do his needs near my gate.this dog openly try to chalenge mine, so there r no any reward that work,

  • Hi, I have a Lab mix puppy 8 months old and im trying to train her, sometimes she does good but others she gets very dristracted so i cant get from her what i want. She sits and laydown whenever she wants and dont stay that way too long just seconds. What can i do> Thank u very much

  • Biggest distraction: squirrels..... jkjk actually i live on a farm. My dog has lots of ditractions

  • i have those shoes :D

  • @2012vid Tab's dog is as trained as a dog should be at her age. It takes a lot of conditioning and time to get these kinds of results!

  • it is great

  • I think I need a personal trainer to help or something -.-

  • @hellokevin68 That's what a lot of people do, actually. Google dog agility/dog obedience or even "doggy bootcamps" in your area, and ask about private lessons. :D Some pet stores also offer training, and despite what people say, those in store trainers are just as good as any other! I do dog agility, and I would be NO where without my trainers!! They dont just train your dog -- They also train YOU. :D

  • Where do you live? Looks like a beautiful place.

  • nice lipgloss...

  • biggest distraction is thunder

  • is it a good time to do it at night when every one is asleep, so there are no distractions

  • this guy snds like a fag ut his videos are awesome

  • @MrMonster1117 comments like yours are not relevant. Please consider being continuing to be irrelevant.

  • 5 stars for you and yes, that crazy birds haha!

  • what do you use for dog treats? i bought some but they ran out fast and a getting expensive.

  • My dogs biggest distraction is her ball if she sees it she will do anything for it

  • Hmnn at the beginning i thought its a talking chihuahua!

  • what did u say to release stay?

  • fAGGIT

  • Comment removed

  • Very nice vid.I have a 2 MONTH OLD PODDLE/Japanese spitz and i just taught him sit play dead and down.but everytime i tell him stay he wont listen and came after me.the only time he will stay (trying to be obedient!)is during his eating time (breakfast lunch dinner).

  • my dog is doing good with learning new things but often has a hard time when i call him to come cause shes to besy smelling every thing

  • cats and other ppl

  • ur like the dog whisperer for tricks

  • ehm, where is part 2?

  • Other dogs birds any other living things lol r distrations exspecially flys

  • thanks very helpful!

  • VERY PRETTY DOG! It is a boy or girl?

    Thanks

    Kim

  • lol my dog LOVES to bite water bottles hahaha

  • @Alex17471 i think they all do, cause my dobie gets crazy around them lol

  • love your shep! and excellent videos

  • everything

  • how can i teach my dog not to run after every dog he sees?

  • that's soo cute! wish i could teach that to my shih tzu.

  • MY DOGS BIGGEST DISTRACTION IS OTHER DOGS SHE SEE THEM AND SHE IS OFF BUT TODAY TWICE SHE RAN OFF BUT CAME BACK BOTH TIMES ON COMMAND BEFORE REACHING THE OTHER DOGS SO I THINK I AM GETTING THERE

  • I have to agree that a good stay is really important. I remember having a dog as a child who was a very good listener. She followed me to the street when I was heading to a friends house and I told her to stay, trying to keep her form following. I came back a good 10 minutes later (not thinking, obviously) and she was still there. Her superb stay also saved her from running into traffic on one occasion. I'm glad you stressed the safety aspect to this command.

  • @Erchunt. Yes it will. Verbal praise and words can work well also, but you must be careful with what you say. Sometimes people say good girl, good girl but then say it all day long and the dog won't know what to think its doing right and can make it hard to learn.

  • how much time do i take a day to teach this to my dog

  • tab289:

where is stay #2???? i searched "stay" on your channel and got only part 1. please upload part 2. THANKS!

  • My dog's just nuts lol

  • sorry, where is part 2?

  • wow, you make it look so easy. my dog would be jumping on my lap if I were sitting in front of her like that. she knows the "sit" command, but she won't do it if I'm sitting on the floor cause she only can think of biting my legs ¬¬

  • will this work work without a clicker?

  • You have a nice backyard.

  • your vids are helping me to train my german scheperd so TNHXS!

  • Kids playing outside. I benifit when not home because she could sit there all day and watch them threw glass doors.

  • My dog is six months old and from the moment we got him he's been attached at my hip...which can be problematic.

Every time he is left alone he chews on something. In the car he chews on the seat belts, at home cables.

we leave him with chew toys but he does not touch them unless we are there with him. He whines, barks, and scratches the doors when he is left alone just 5 minutes. How can I get my dog to be okay with being left alone?

  • ฝึกจ้องตากับสุนัขหรือเปล่า?

  • In response to your question...."What is your dog's biggest distraction?"....Kids playing comes first, followed by loud scary machinery. My dog, Esther is very young yet, not quite six months of age. She is still learning about what is out there, so loud machinery is alarming to her (lawn mowers, etc.) But, her main distraction is young kids playing, especially if they are throwing a ball around.

  • Thank you TAB for the wonderful videos, although Solea is trained, in comparison with other videos using an already trained dog, I think you do a great job in showing the process and not just the result. I notice on your "Stay" video that you have Solea down on a blanket. This is to "mark" where she is to perform the stay? Does it make training the "stay" easier, is is difficult or just adding another step to the process to get her (my dog) to stay without a marker??

  • You have a really good bond with your dog and I think that is the key thing when training a dog.

  • how do you get them to move after lol when i was doing this with my dog I would say "free" to release him but he would still stay lol

  • @MrOGJMoney If you face your dog in a bent over position while taking a step or two backwords and patting your legs as you say "free" he should get up. Same thing most people do when they want a dog to come. Then as he learns what "free" means you won't have to motion him to come to you anymore.. you can faze off the visual cue your body creates and just use the word "free".

  • Frackin' Squirrels, that's what. They drive her freakin' nuts.

  • my dog problem is when someone comes in or he hears sumthing he gets up .....

  • This is actually really helpful! Our younger pup hasn't done the best with this trick so this is great!

  • I'd like to teach this trick to my 6 year old neighbor.

  • "i'm not gonna follow you, i love hearing the birds singing... "

  • the biggest distractions to my puppy r smells and the other pups in my home

  • A big distraction is other dogs, but instead I just say "Capone come" and he will stand in front of me waiting for a treat, I have a German Rottie and I think so far we are doing a good job raising him please check out my videos and let me know what u think. I will def. Practice this tomorrow with him, he is 4 months old now and he knows the commands sit, down, speak, paw, come and ofcourse he listen (knows) by his name when call. He also knows how to open the front door and is party train already.

  • wierd how can i give 5 stars if ther are only thums ups

  • awsome vids bro good job! :D...by the way... you sound like FluffyTalks xD

  • I thought that my puppy had master the command stay, ( i had only practice in my house) but once i took him for a walk and told him to stay he will not listen to me. He is too distracted from the cars passing by or by anything that moves near his sight . he will not stay ; he follows me even though i tell him to stay. OH and is it okay to teach a dog new tricks while he is still learning others.

  • i love how solaia's eyes look all impatient at 1:55 shes saying "well wheres my treat then?!"

  • My puppy bites my hand only when I give him his treat. I don't know how to stop this. Anyone give me advice. He just gets excited. And his teeth are like razor blades.

  • @XxInevitablyHisxX go to his stop a puppy biting video.. its very helpful.. if your dog is getting over excited and hurting you give him a time out for a few moments so he can calm down

  • great videos, but i have problem with my 3 month GSD puppy:

when i sit down to train my puppy i cant train him bcus he wants only to bite me on hands or my legs etc, so i cant get his focus to listen me or look me in the eyes

  • @vBulletinzz - I have a an 8month GS Puppy and he does the same thing. He bites alot. I have 5 kids. My concern is my 2 smaller ones. I have a 4yr old girl and an 18mo son. When we go outside, my puppy runs to them and bites my daughters dress or HAIR. She has long hair. He's made her cry... With my son, he just usually jumps and aims to bite his hands, but hasn't really made him cry. What do I do about that?

Oh, he also humps us. Is this normal? What do I do when he does this?

  • @vBulletinzz lmao same with my gsd puppy shes a bitter an dont listin

  • @vBulletinzz SAME PROBLEM WITH MY 2 MONTH OLD BORDER COLLIE!! I CAN BARELY TEACH HER FETCH!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @vBulletinzz I have the same problem, tough mine is a toy-poodle :)

  • @vBulletinzz use the click

  • Great video! Super helpful!!

  • You have such a beautiful dog.I like your training methods!

  • I noticed that you only gave the verbal command once and then clicked/treated until you gave the release command. Would it be bad if when I walked away to give the verbal command everytime or would that confuse the dog? Keep up the AWESOME videos!

  • my dog's biggest distraction.... anything that moves and anything that smells good

  • love your videos :) so helpful!

  • Some people on youtube make the dog wait till they give the signal before the dog can eat? i am wondering whats the point of this and is it recemended?

  • all these youtube videos would be far more educational if they were done with an untrained dog, not one theyve trained for years and getting it to repeat what is 2nd nature to them now.

  • @bounie3 Yes that would be the ideal situation. However, I try very hard to break it down to how you can apply these principles to any dog at any level of training. It is also useful and motivating for many people to see the end-result - so they know what to expect.

  • @bounie3 If you can't bendover and say "stay" 2 secs later click and trick. Build that until your up to 15 secs. You shouldn't have a dog. I myself make my dog sit, i gather up her water and food go back to my seat and tell her "OK". This training can't be done over night. If you looking for instant satisfaction, read a book.

  • @bounie3 tab289 is the best trainer in youtube. thanks to him my german shephred knows sit, down, stand and leave it so far, thanks tab289.

  • @bounie3 yeah. I'd like to see them train mine. My dog thinks training is abuse time.

  • My puppies favorite thing is an empty water bottle, too!

  • Tab, you're awesome. I'm a professional dog trainer and I watch your videos! I also post them on my facebook page for my clients to see. Thanks for being so great at what we all need to do!

  • My dogs biggest distraction is when thers other dogs around.

  • @sofiananagy same here!

  • Do you have a video on teaching a puppy its name?

My puppy cant focus. When i try to teach him something He just jumps around and wants to play. Got a vid?

I have an 8 week old Doberman and he needs a name! Ive had him for about 4 days now and i feel strange teaching him things without saying a name.

Maybe somebody can help and toss me some name ideas?! Thanks!

  • @DuhDuhDustyn You can use the technique I go over in my video on teaching a dog eye contact. All the best with your puppy!

  • @DuhDuhDustyn teaching a dog his name is the easiest thing in the world, even a cave dog will learn it. All you do is call his name. When he ignores you, fine, keep calling his name with 5 seconds intervals for no longer than 3x 5 mins a day. When he looks in your direction, praise him, when he makes eye contact, then praise him hardcore and give him a treat but look away right after.Do not stare into his eyes, staring means challenging or asking for guidence. DO NOT FORGET THAT EVER.

  • @DuhDuhDustyn Cody :)

  • @DuhDuhDustyn I trained my 3 month puppy to know his name by rewarding him, with a small treat, every time I said his name during a training session. After about 5 times of doing so, When I said his name he perked up and looked at me. since then there has never been an issue with him not knowing his name or not responding to his name.

  • @DuhDuhDustyn just keep on calling him his name, and when u like want to call him say whatever u say to get his attention, and his name at the end, or at the beginning

  • @DuhDuhDustyn

     BUSTER

  • I got a Bull Terrier called Jacko, and his biggest distraction is other dogs. By the way... i use a mouth-made sound instead of a clicker.

  • Hej

I dont realy like using a clicker.

What can i use instead ?

  • @vavikoloti You can just as well use your voice. Replace the click with a consistent word, like "YES!". So long as it's always the same word, it shouldn't be a problem.

  • a pen works great as a ckliker

  • Tab, any tips for working with a slightly nervous / skittish dog with a "soft" temperment?

  • @Kristin01960 Take it slow and work at the dog's pace. It's always better to teach something over the course of many days instead of trying to do it all at once.

  • Can you make a video on how to train a dog to be nice to cats or to tolerate being around one?

  • my brother and footballs and balls on the backyard

  • @WildGOD

I don't see an answer from the author to it, but, I had a similar scenario with my GSD, and apparently the problem was that I wasn't paying enough attention to the release command, in any case, I feel guilty if I leave the doggy more than five or ten minutes on "stay".

  • where are you from GOOD GUY?

    which country?

  • Squirrels are by far Zooey's biggest distraction! So far they are the only thing I haven't found a high enough "reward" to give her for ignoring them!

  • oh, the cat. Is it possible to create a tutorial for that? I would imagine 'leave it' has to be taught first. I think I just answered my own question. :)

  • Comment removed

  • Another great vid. one thing I do to not inadvertantly create a break in stay. I never call my pups off stay, I always go back to them and either heel away or give a release cue from close at thier side

  • @kramerjet Excellent point! I do the same thing, and use a different cue if I need to call off from a distance. Thank you!

  • Hi i like ur videos....I have a german shepherd girl named Kesha she has just turned 3 months. I have gotten her to sit and lay down. But i've noticed that she gets distracted when my mom's lil dog comes in and then she just wants to play with him. (should i just leave him outside and just add him in later?) Also im worried about her playing with him since she is gonna get alot bigger and he is so small. Anything u can think of that could help?

    Thanks

  • @NathanF9785 You have the right idea! Having another dog around is very distracting for most dogs because they might want to play instead of learn. Since your dog is still very young, I would first practice without the added distraction of the second dog. Eventually you'll be able to have him around as well. Maybe you could train both of them to stay around each other!

  • great video! looking forward to the other stay vids. :)

  • hi i like ur vid but i think my dog really needs help so do i every time i remove the leash or with the leash my dog dosent want to stay but especially when i remove the leash she rans all over the place can u help me pls i need her to stay beside me to walk beside me with or without pls helpp by the way cool and nice vid

  • @Flast09 When practicing the stay, we have to make sure the dog stays, so if using a leash is what will allow your dog to be successful, then by all means use it until she understands the 'game'. As for walking on a leash, I have two other videos covering that topic.

  • Hi. When are you uploading part 2? :D Thanks.

  • great vid... btw, can u make a tutorial on how to teach a dog to count?? I just adopted a pitbull and would like to teach it how to count. thx

  • I have a question about the towel. Are you just using it as a target ? or do you take one with you when you go places for the dog to lay on. As their spot ? My dogs biggest distractions are everything, I have working stockdogs.

  • Good question. It does help to use it when working in a new environment because it serves as a familiar place where the dog has been reinforced. I take it with me sometimes... e.g. on a trip to a new vet.

  • wonderful video!

  • Great stuff - look forward to the next one. Water bottles are good for us too - even better with a few biscuits in!

  • That makes a great toy. I find that Gatorade bottles are the best for putting treats.

  • I luv that video. Can't wait for next part. My friend have a dog and the biggest distraction are cats and squirrels. don't make me wait for too long.

  • Great video! Jake's biggest distraction would be cats!

  • Great point about clicking JUST BEFORE you anticipate something that may cause the dog to break the stay. Ruby's top distractions- Dogs and People! Great video.
