Not sure what you are talking about here. The only power he tried hard to get was a good position at Harvard. All of his assisting positions in the governments were invites from those presidents, and then being secretary of state. Alright the bombing, which we will not consider that North Vietnam invaded and manipulated Cambodia for it's uses did include a lot of collateral when trying to get the Vietnamese out and was terrible for them. The bombing campaigns were both Kissinger and Nixons plan, for Henry it was mostly to get the vietnamese to the table for diplomacy. Terrible yes, but used the same way as the nuclear bomb was against Japan. Still, my point is, if Henry Kissinger is satan incarnate, then what is Stalin?

Is John McCain a hero? He was shot down after 20 odd bombing missions. Did he bomb cities and villages? Did he kill untold hundreds if not thousands of totally innocent men, women, and children? Why is John McCain a hero?

Then there was the underlying domestic threat to his civil rights agenda: The KKK and its twisted sense of supremacy as patriotism. Again, Kennedy's philosophical and moral formation is undoubtedly that distinct Aristotelian/Catholic brand. So it's ironic (and typically demented), that the true heart of the message is usurped by those whose mistrust of the government Kennedy served leads them to follow a man who claims our system can no longer be trusted yet somehow he can?

You can point out how "patriotism" has been used by some for their nefarious ends. That doesn't prove patriotism evil. A lack of patriotism is just as evil when a nation DESERVES the respect and appreciation of its people. Your failure to love America under the guise of hating patriotism sees you champion evil as surely as the KKK's false use of it.

As far as being a "beacon to the world..." it seems to me that France has come CLOSER to America and elected Sarkozy, Germany chose Merkel, Canada and Mexico have elected more pro-American leaders, etc. You're "everyone hates America because I hate America" mentality just doesn't jibe with the facts.

There's a misunderstanding. Our nation absolutely deserves a strong sense of patriotism that ought be encouraged and expected of its citizenry. My comments above aren't meant to call anyone's patriotism to task.

All we had to do is follow domestic and international law after 9/11. If we had done that, and focused on bringing those involved to justice, we would be a beacon to the world and our ideology would be embraced.
We did not. So, we are agressors and thugs.
Two candidates really understand this; Ron Paul and Dennis Kucinich. That is one of the reasons that the media marginalizes them.
