  • this and "Us and The Game Industry" will change my life :) (this look WAY better btw)

  • These games will most likely be generic 2.5D trash with a retarded secret hidden meaning, like everybody has seen a million times and nobody will actually care for.

You can tell because the developers here are healthy young men with nerdy glasses, when most experienced developers are Fat bearded middle aged men with fedora's.

  • I'm a game developer and I have a beard. It's friday night and buddies been calling all day to go out for beer, I'm not answering and I haven't left house for weeks now.

  • everyone in this video is a faggot nigger

  • @langsty How much money did you get for tiping this?

  • London Sundance per chance?

  • I guess I'll watch it before I say anything, but this trailer was laughable. Was this TRYING to make these guys look like losers?

  • @TheRabb0t

Well they are portrayed as the creators of generic indie neo-retro platformers. I don't see how they could be viewed as anything other than losers, at least in the game development field

  • every buck for super meat boy was worth, great game

  • Sweet Jesus, does this look like a büllshít movie!

This trailer alone represents everything that's wrong with the indie game culture!

They're just a bunch of pretentious fúcks (the team meat guy and swift) and/or clueless hipsters doüchébags (that other neck beard wide rimmed glasses wearing troll).

Not all of us are conceited aspies!

Sadly, I gotta watch this trash for a class paper in the next few weeks....

    死ね!!!

  • @banditr0se Where you see pretentiousness, I see passion. And if you can't see the difference, maybe you've never been passionate about something. Or spent years of your life creating something you just hope other people can appreciate. If getting attached to something you've put so much effort into is pretentious, then well thank god for pretentious people like indie developers. Cause if they weren't so "pretentious," I probably wouldn't have games like super meat boy or braid.

  • I recognize Super Meat Boy and Braid but i couldn't recognize the other one it seems to be awesome... can one of you guys give me the name please ??? ;3

  • @Gamess0000 Fez

  • @Gamess0000 +Time Fcuk (The black guy with white eyes and mouth)

  • Did he just really compare working as an indie game developer to being in the holocaust?

  • What's the song for this trailer? It's very nice :O

  • So when are you coming to Guadalajara, Jalisco, Mexico :') just to put it on my calendar

  • so queer

  • ""and it just not a game, I'm so closely attached to it" I just...I don't know I just love that line. :)

  • I'm in the very early stages of developing a game with some friends myself. Looking forward to your movie. Hope you can bring it to Cleveland (the forgotten wasteland) someday.... good luck!

  • At least half of these views are mine. I can't wait for the movie, even the trailer is fantastic.

  • These indie developers virtually work their butts off and it's sad to see their hardwork only end up being pirated. People can really be scumbags.

  • What's the game at 1:56 called? I wanna play this :(

Also the movie looks very good :)

  • @eltiolavara9 CMIIW, I think it's "Fez"

  • Please let me know this will play in Montreal. Maybe at Fantasia?

  • Brent and Lorin from EBA's The Axe Factor sent me here.

Can't wait to watch this, looks like a great documentary and not just for gamers. It's so good to see the difficulty of game development finally getting the attention it deserves.

  • This movie was very exciting as it is but when I found out Jim Guthrie did the soundtrack, it became a can't miss right away. Seriously ... there is no way this can't be good.

  • 2:21 THE MAGICAL FEZZ :D

  • This looks amazing. As an aspiring Game Developer, I'm really excited for this documentary. Fantastic job guys, I'll be pre-ordering the Special Edition. If you ever get a Blu-Ray version I'll purchase one of those as well!

  • congratulations with the great reviews, sadly i could not go to sundance but i do hope I meet you two some day. Good luck in the future, hope I can someday make a movie as great as yours

  • just now realized his monitor is sideways for coding

    neat

  • Can't wait to see this... But where's Tommy?

  • Can we get an Albuquerque, New Mexico screening please? :D It's a 3 hour drive from where I live, but there're more people there ;3

  • one day...when i am a successful game developer...i too will have a civil war beard

  • OMG it's Wolverine!

  • Did anyone noticed the Sun O))) shirt at 1:49 VROOOOMMMM DUUMMMM DROMMM

  • is this satire?

  • I can't wait for this. If this has a screening in Colorado I'm SO there. This looks magical.

  • cool cant wait to watch a bunch of retard idiots make bad games for morons

  • fuckin nerds

  • @TheTrumpBoy

Are you maybe jealous of them?

  • fake and gay

  • The SNES control at the end made me wanna see it =D

  • I've never once wanted to see a movie this badly before. Day 1 purchase for sure.

  • I MUST SEE THIS MOVIE!

  • UK please!

  • I'm excited for the release.

  • A friend sent this to me, it looks to be an excellent one to watch.

  • Being a game developer myself, I am very excited about seeing the full version, although this trailer alone sends a great message to people in the gaming community.

  • @FabledApps This entirely. These two-minutes of footage highlighted perfectly to whoever I showed it exactly WHY I've always wanted to make games. It's a great message.

  • This is awesome, I need to see this!

Also heard that there's going to be a TV series, even better! :D

  • Wow, this movie looks fantastic! As an indie game dev myself, I'm really looking forward to seeing this especially because it's giving you a look into the world of indie games and their creators. For someone like me, as well as others who might be interested in this sort of thing, this can be a wonderful experience. I'm really excited for this and I can't wait till it comes out ^)^

  • Hey, any chance of this being show in the UK Sundance?

  • I guess that Notch should be in this movie.

  • @dartagnanv Notch was a bit of exception, I'd rather listen to people who are closer to the real indies, you know, living from paycheck to paycheck and struggling to survive.

  • @davidamador But since he started from the underground, making games in small companies and creating a game that, luckly, became a hit, don't you think that he has something to say about the Indie world?

  • @dartagnanv I do, but I just think they choose well for the movie. The movie is about representing the endure and suffering of the trade, right now Notch is on a very very comfortable position, they wouldn't be able to represent what we went through. None of the other developers has the money he has so it's a bit more down to earth.

  • Looks awesome.

  • Indie devs gotta make that money. Macs, ironic clothing and starbucks really adds up.

  • What is the game with the white thing in the fez. That looks awesome and I want to play it now! :]

  • @uaquaquaquaq It's called Fez, lol.

  • I didn't see Toady One or Notch anywhere in this movie!

  • @MsDuncey They would have liked to apparently, but could only work in one country. Although the Adam brothers would have been very interesting to see :(

  • re: the interviewees: "hey everybody, look at me, I'm antisocial." If you're going to be a nerd at least don't be a hypocrite. BITCH.

  • oh and i also really enjoyed the comment "i probably don't like 'em" (about people) - although for me, it's the opposite. yet, the disconnect makes it work that i can relate ;)

  • i hope this movie will be as honest as the trailer suggests... i bet especially everybody working in the creative industry can relate.

and i really liked the part where jonathan mentions putting aspects of himself into braid. the thing with that is just - when you do that, the "product" better be at least close to what you envisioned. because if you put something meaningful into something but you don't have the means to do it how you wanted it... it's like pouring your heart out for nothing.

  • @IndieGameTheMovie Hey guys. Fellow Canadian here. I'd love for you guys to have a screening in Edmonton, Alberta. I may know of a couple places, but I think it would be super awesome if you could. Me and a ton of friends would go see it for sure. PLUS, BIOWARE is located and founded in Edmonton, and I know there's a TON of employees there who'd love to see it that I have contact with.

  • Ughhh need Moscow Screening :|

  • Please bring this to Toronto after Sundance! Can't wait to see it.

  • @EnglishGentlman A Toronto show will 99.99999% be happening :)

  • @IndieGameTheMovie Awesome! Thanks so much for the reply. Are you able to tell us what theater(s)? Or is that asking too much? :P

  • @EnglishGentlman No problem - would gladly share specifics if we had them. We don't have a date or venue locked down just yet. But we have been talking to some really great people at a really great venue :)

  • @IndieGameTheMovie Any chance of coming to Australia?

  • What has happend to geeks going from really fat to really skinny people wearing thick lensed glasses?

  • @wubwubwubwub4867 They were Canadians. ;)

  • REALLY NICE.

  • 0:25 someone get this sad sack a violin.

  • You should have interviewed Pixel, the guy behind Cave Story.

  • Comment removed

  • @JohntheNonCultist Thank you for being so narrow minded. But seriously just think about this all, reflect on it. They have the right to do what they want, if they want to make games of which they think that they're interesting and worth your time then they should do that. You know in the end a medium is there to communicate and communication is important and difficult. Without communication we would be so alone... but luckily we have music, literature, film and games.

  • @DrBamm What's your problem? It doesn't matter how a game looks, its content is what matters. Games like Braid and Super Meat Boy are fantastic 2d sidescrollers that are innovative and have a certain feel to it. Besides, they're a lot more artsy and innovative compared to poorly designed videogames such as Call of Duty you generic faggot.

  • why is everybody hating on these people ?

  • where's all the fedoras and the spaghetti and the capes?

  • The one guy having a Sunn O))) shirt somehow makes me very happy.

  • i.want.to.play.FEZ.sooo.badlyyy!!!!!!

  • In spanish: Gran video, excelente edición y mucha suerte con el film. AMO LOS JUEGOS INDIES!!!---

In english: Great video, excellent edition and good luck with the film. I LOVE THE INDIE GAMES!!!!!--

  • god damnit, i was playing 2D games when i was 4, hell i was playing 3D games too, why is this shit getting praised? it isnt artsy, its visually appealing at best, but that shit gets old. I WANT A VIDEO GAME NOT SOMETHING SOME DUDE IN HIS MOM'S BASEMENT MADE

  • *opens up visual studio/emacs/ide*

  • Braid. <3

  • no

  • @ 1:35.... a concentration camp? Really? Working on a game is like being in a concentration camp? Was that just part of a joke that got edited out or something? For the sake of my dwindling faith in humanity, I hope so.

  • @Dimecross When it's a team of two working on a game for 2 years, with a deadline they have to meet and content they have to cram in, yeah I can imagine it. But hey, keep living in your fantasy world where you can think of ideas and they magically appear on the screen for you to play I guess.

  • @KifIsARealBoy Yeah, producing video games is like being in a cncentration camp. Oh, wait, game producers and developers don't die in their "concentration camps."

  • @Dimecross being a one-man developer for a game is a big task I must say. Bugs and debugging and getting your code to work is a pain in the ass. They also have to do the artwork and design. A whole heap of planning is there. They also make a living out of these games so by saying that they work long and tiresome hours. Really, programming is tiresome.

  • What's with the thumb-downs? Seriously!

Beautiful trailer on every count! Really looking forward to see the movie!

  • neeeeeeeeeerrrrrrrddddddss

  • Jonathan Blow c:

  • The reason no one buys these games is because they suck. I buy em only in humble bundles, and I take great pride in the fact I send it all towards charity, and that not a single penny reaches these jackasses.

  • @sheershaw22 Suck, what the? Indie Games are some of the greatest out there today, Braid for example is possibly the best game i've played in my life, apart from ordinary developers that rehearse the same ideas over and over and only make games to push the limits of graphics, Indie Developers makes games with ideas so great and unique that they put titles like Call of Duty and Skyrim to shame, these games are works of art and are absolutly amazing

  • Side scrollers are so terribly innovative and totally not an antediluvian genre of videogame, or anything. I am totally good at sarcastic speech.

  • For each success story there's ten thousand failed ones.

  • "... and exposing yourself through your work."

    an indie devs primary focus

  • Hipsters, PLAY IT LOUD!!!1!!

  • PLAY IT LOUD

  • hahahahaha u all SCRUBSSS.... u all badddd. y wud u want games wit flaws and vulnerbddsktis????????

  • Remember when indie games used to be games? And weren't artsy fartsy crap and didn't need to be called indie games?

  • @JohntheNonCultist If normal games are artistic why the fuck cant indies be.

  • @JohntheNonCultist "artsy fartsy crap"?! yeah must've been a time before you even became a gamer...

  • Is someone know what's the music us on this trailer?

BTW: Really good trailer, and Indies, please, don't give up and continue to make us happy ;-)

  • @dridriga Thanks so much. The track is a currently untitled (but that should change soon) track by Jim Guthrie (of Sword & Swocery and general making-awesome-music fame). Jim created the track specifically for the trailer. He also did the entire soundtrack for the film. The soundtrack should be out around the film's release. The whole album is really strong, definitely give it a look when it's out. If you dig this song, you'll really like the album.

  • @IndieGameTheMovie Thanks a lot for those informations and your answer ;-)

It'll be my pleasure to buy the OST and the movie as soon as it'll be release.

As a former Level Designer I'm really happy to see these kind of initiative ;-)

I Wish you all the best for this movie.

  • It's funny how actual independent game developers like Croteam don't spew "I'M INDIE GAMES ARE ART PLEASE LIKE MY FLASH INDIE PUZZLE RETRO PHYSICS PLATFORMER" on every occassion they can.

  • @Lolibats I'ts funny how the internet is full of idiots.

  • indie platformer...indie platformer...indie platformer...*yawn*

  • @ixidorsreality this a hundred times.

  • @ixidorsreality I couldnt dissagree more, why would people even thumbs up that bullshit?

  • indie games are lame, make sum big games or sumting

  • @booboowilson10101 i really liked braid though...but thats tit

  • @booboowilson10101 i really liked braid though...

  • @booboowilson10101 You are lame

  • thjubmsa rurpotorgjf geriejr hgm rgiraife makr nhdjre ejhsirjaoyhotk ylptying hjowa ddo uindiand me L:9::))gkk

  • Amazing job, great.I am an indie developer myself, glad there's a movie (or at least in the making) that represents gaming as an art.

    Thanks, for your effort.

  • I am studying music, and some day desire creates music for video games and movies. But to be honest, I do not agree with it, I want to make my own game! my own world!

It is inspiring to see the trailer, and I hope one day to make one.

    Sorry for my bad English.

  • love u ındie game

  • GO KICK SOME SERIOUS ASS AT SUNDANCE >:)

  • @vixxito We'll try to kick as many asses as possible :)

  • Great trailer, can't wait to watch the movie. What song was specifically used in this trailer? its great.

  • @fliptakublog Currently the track is nameless (though I think Jim will be giving it one very very soon). It is a piece by Jim Guthrie (of Sword & Sworcery fame and other musical wonderfulness) written for the trailer, but has since become the main musical theme of the film.

Jim's music for this movie is amazing. When the soundtrack comes out, you will not be disappointed if you pick it up :) Thanks for asking. -James

  • Whats the game name in 0:27 ?

  • @TheReplayCZ It's a super interesting game by Edmund Mcmillen called 'Coil'. Do a search for it over on Newgrounds and give it a go.

  • @IndieGameTheMovie Thank you kindly.

  • This honestly looks amazing, I'll definitely be watching this. Great editing! great music! I really can't wait :) oh, and liked, faved and subscribed

  • @xNightsWatchx Thanks!

  • @IndieGameTheMovie Hey umm ignore all of these comments, the comments you see here are the people that like call of duty and such games. Congratulations by the way for getting into sundance. Hoping to go there and seeing the movie

  • @luisgapro Thanks Luis, totally appreciate the words. Would be awesome to see you in Sundance. If you're there, be sure to say hi.

    Thanks again

    -James

  • @IndieGameTheMovie do you guys know when you will be releasing this online?

  • @nickm34456 We're still working on it. It will be this year...but that's a bit vague, I know. Basically, we're premiering in 10 days (gulp!). After that will be a theatrical / screening period, followed as closely as we can with the DVD / Digital release.

The length of the screening tour depends a lot on how people respond to the film in theaters and the early tour date sales.

We hope to make firm announcements as soon as possible. Hopefully in Feb

    Thanks for asking

    -James

  • @IndieGameTheMovie thankyou for the response, looks awesome cant wait to see it :)

  • GOOD!

  • I am so exited for this! I couldn't give some money during the kickstarter phase, but now that I have some cash, Imma try to get the special edition! :D I am really anticipating this, I love indie games so much. These kind of things really make my day. :)

  • god that fez guy is a hardcore hipster.

Would watch it just for edmund though, that guy is awesome

  • Computer games are for queers

  • @SenorCajones fuck yeah! QUIT PLAYING OUR GAMES STRAIGHT PEOPLE! THEY ARE OURS!

  • @puppyboobs Somewhere in this video there's a dick with your ass' name on it.

  • Mogwai - The Precipice is playing in conjunction with this music. It's pretty nice.

  • This looks so amazing... I feel a tear welling up. I am so excited! Indie games are some of the favorite things in the world for me. :')

  • I feel like crying

  • I WANT THIS MOVIE SO BAD NYAAAAAA

    hurry please

  • I'm looking forward to showing this to my little bro. He has all the prerequisites of a game designer/ developer, but has fallen victim to society's terrible myth that there's no point in bothering. I know this will inspire him to give it a go.

  • @Krazypantsful I hope that it inspires him so much. :) People that develop indie games are, in my opinion, some of the quintessential necessities of gaming today. Big companies do nothing but make the same game with minimal improvements after every game, but indie developers have the creative freedom to try things that big name companies can't even fathom doing, like mojang right now with scrolls and minecraft.

  • @Krazypantsful Don't let him give up man!

  • Hurry up Feb 3rd 2012!

  • HOLY SHITTING DICKS

I want to watch this SO BAD. Plus, it's written BRIAD instead of Braid in the tags.

  • @mamooth Thanks for the kind words Sir - and thanks for catching the Briad Braid.....A lot of fast typing going on today :)

  • @IndieGameTheMovie I checked the tags to find out a game's name. FEZ. I didn't know about it, and now I'm in love with it. Too bad I don't have a Xbox ): (Says only Xbox on the website).

  • @mamooth If you look at the history of other high-profile indie games released for XBox (Bastion, DeathSpank, Costume Quest, Monday Night Combat, Sequence, Cthulhu Saves the World), and ESPECIALLY puzzle platformers (Braid, Limbo, Super Meat Boy, The Misadventures of P.B. Winterbottom) you'll notice they ALWAYS come out for PC at most a year or so later, even when they're not announced. It just makes good business sense. So unless you just can't wait I wouldn't worry too much.

  • @KillahMate Yeah, the big problem is waiting ):

  • Good luck you guys, I hope you win so maybe there's a chance I can buy it from my local video store.

  • Just so enormous !!!! Thrilled about it

  • There is just something so deeply moving about indie games. This movie amplifies that feeling, I can't wait.

  • Not gonna lie, looks pretty good.

  • The movie looks incredible and i just cant wait to see it. Congratulations to everyone involved!

  • Im am so amped for this! We haven't heard from you guys in ages hows the progress going? When can we expect to see this?

  • Can't wait for the videogame adaptation by LJN

  • I'm more eager to see this than any other movie, and this is never going to make it's way here (I live in New Zealand) :/ I'll have to save up for an order.

  • this is going to sound weird, but this movie sounds like it has the potential to be the first movie to actually move me to tears.

  • This...is going to be beautiful.

  • I'm really excited about this! :) It looks so amazing!

  • thmbs up if you pre-orederd :D

  • Can't wait to see this! looks like it's gonna be pretty awesome xD
