At age 25, I've been in love with this song for as long as I can remember. I've seen this clip numerous times and I *STILL* can't get the rhythm of the girls dancing in the background!
This song or My Girl is my favorite song of the 60s. Each is my favorite while i'm listening to it.Stubbs and company make modern "music" so so pale by comparison.
driving down the road in '57 chevy convertible with this playing on WBAG AM radio..... The 4 Tops were sooo talented!!! One song after another. RIP Levi
After working for years to get somewhere the Tops came to Motown and met instant success with this, their first hit record. From there on it was hit after hit after hit after hit after hit. Levi Stubbs was a brilliant singer, a real artist who created miniature plays out of the song lyrics.
Now this is music. This is singing. This is REAL talent. the crap today, Ugghhhh! No one can hold a candle to these guys. Nothin like a little Motown to brighten up the day.
@MegaBob77777 I could not agree with you more.Oh man, these were the times of truly great music. These guys and the Tempts, along with all the other Motown acts, learned and mastered their craft, not just getting in front of a mic hollering rubbish like you hear today.Motown Forever.
Wow, I finally understand why the parents always say I listen to stupid meaningless music.....think this might be the best song ever n it also makes me wonder about rap
This song brings back beautiful memories. I am 57 and this is the music I grew up with. GOD bless everyone and especially those who can remember and appreciate such great music.
SOOOOOOOO glad I was able to see ALL of them at least a dozen times!! Last one was at the HacthShell in Boston (94& 97) R.I.P. Levi & Laurence!! You are one class act !!!
as much as i like the four tops i LOVE the temptations better! but i still love this song and im only 14! isnt that crazy i know more about motown and its people than my dad!!
When I was your age I looved the Temps too. They were my favorite group although I now recognize that Levi had the best voice of all of them. But hey, I still like "I Wish It Would Rain, one of my favorites by the Temps. Keep listening to smooth music, young one!
well old is definitely GOLD and i really liked it i posted it on my gurl's wall cause she is really angry at the moment and i really liked it and hope it will help me pray for me guys : )
Ain't it the truth? LOL Wow - he was some handsome man. He and Jackie Wilson were cousins and he handsome too. He really set the women off when he performed.
This has always been my favorite song.........and i'm almost 60............Levi will always be remembered by me for THIS song..............The 4 Tops were absolutely GREAT!
Damn sure wish i was there! ! Anytime things arent going to good all i have to do is listin to some motown and im back to feeling happy!! Best therapy for the blues!!
I was had the honor to see Duke and the Tops last week in Durham...they opened with this song and their whole show was so smooth....the gentleman singing lead really kinda reminded me of David Ruffin...he was awesome...a true talent and you should go if you get the chance...they are still kickin..Joe
This song sends shivers up and down my body, and they say music is NOT spiritual...? Who are they kidding. This is a STUNNING SONG!!! that touches the very soul of human beings on this earth. MUSIC IS THE UNIVERSAL LANGUAGE OF US ALL! No matter colour or creed. This song makes me cry.
the shame is the kids of today in the uk think x factor is good for fucccks sake, my parents had the pleasue of songs like this and im so glad they showed me the way. its our duty to keep the good music good times and laughter alive, there should be no room for hyped up mediocre sell sell sell music
Highlights of my youth in Phila was the Four Tops, Martha and the Vandellas, the Temptations, Smokey Robinson. To those we have lost, thank you for the music and the joy.
The Motown sound was revolutionary...it was hip, it was real, it moved people to dance with each other regardless of color. It gave us many talented people and memories to last a lifetime. Everyone has their own favorite Motown song..... hey, whats yours?
Levi, this day is sorrowful without your presence but I am thankful your suffering is at an end and joyous you are now with the Father in Heaven....10-17-08
The Four Tops were truly one of the greatest Motown Acts.
So glad, that I've seen them live in a great concert in 1989 in their orginal line-up: Abdul Fakir + Levi Stubbs + Renaldo Benson († 2005) + Lawrence Payton († 1997).
My sister and I wore out two copies of their first album, playing it and dancing in our basement. I fell in love with Levi Stubbs' voice--it just transported me. He beat cancer and went on performing, but he has had a stroke and no longer does concerts. He's been married to his wife since 1960, and they have five children. A good man, and a good life lived. I miss him.
Levi had such a strong voice...he sang lead on all their songs. I saw the Tops and Temps together and it was one of the best concerts I've ever seen. Both groups seem to have so much fun on stage, made the audience enjoy the show even more. Performers today don't do concerts like that any more.
thankyou thankyou thankyou - song , melody , moves - this is like manna to your soul - divine , the best , has been with me as top ten desert island for 40 years !!!!!!!!!unbelievable
If you love Motown you have got to see the DVD "Standing in the Shadows of Motown." Great documentary, great music, told by the Funk Brothers, Hitville, USA's studio band. Enjoy!
