i wish the quality were better, there's so much hiss, but that's part of the music, This music is somewhat highly respectable, for it's annoying quality to me. Have no clue what to rate it so I won't, it's driving me insane, yet it's so real it's pleasing. I don't know if I should keep listening or turn it off immediately. my final thought: hmmmm.
@writerwesley2 that is exactly what I thought. It's just noise, and a pretty simple, artificial, unpleasant kind of noise, but somehow it's really nice to listen to.
"I think La Monte Young is the only composer I know of who ever won the... what's that grant that UC Berkeley gives with specific instructions to go ELSEWHERE with it?" - Ramon Sender
That quote cracks me up to no end. Despite whatever Young's relationship with Conrad/Cale has done to sour the good ole days, this piece is one mack daddy of harsh noise splut and needs to be forced on more than just the 400 people who've heard it.
HOLY FUCK. those caps are genuine. this is beyond words. brain frying free associating gdafgkljygb amazing. this is like the skaters and hototogisu and the vietnam war and so much more happening all at once. or something. anyway, la monte young is for real. dang.
@durgAUMurge point taken, it is a bit crude in retrospect. though i will never apologize for my subjective experience of art. i tend to react viscerally to things i find powerful. that was my reaction when i first heard this. didn't think it would be the top comment, it's a bit embarrassing. good thing this is the interwebs. constructive criticism is a gift, i give my thanks.
back at you with regards to the visceral. and in a sense, you are right on...and i've done it before! the f-sharp BLURT! i am not into any form of censorship unless, sure, it's subjective, self-censorship....i apologize for coming across like some prude!
crude, prude...we are neither. ;)
and yes, this is amazing noise...like sonic youth expanded in a moment of some imagined amnesia of john cage. silence in 4/4 time...cheers
i have no idea why this bullshit made me laugh the whole time i listened to it
