For those who don't understand. The guy is dead the whole time. The woman is crying because she reads the newspaper article that explains her boyfriends death, not because they are splitting up. His spirit follows her around trying to make her stay (Notice how the guy doesn't leave foot prints in the milk). When the girl drives away, she runs the light and dies in the car accident. Her spirit then meets with her boyfriend. The ending shows that he was truely dead
