It's really quite interesting to watch the learning system of a cat.. it really explains our own. He presses the key, the sound comes from under the bottom. He repeats until he knows it's true, and then he makes the link. :d

Franklin Solar is my Orange Tabby. I'm also a piano teacher. He likes to play experimental piano by striking the keys and then leaping into the case with the

music stand removed. He'll bounce back and forth for a while if left to his own devices. He's not allowed to play much anymore for his own safety.

One time I was playing on a baby grand and a cat jumped inside on the strings. I held the pedal down to hear which notes he'd walk on. But not a sound came out - I couldn't believe it. They just walk SO lightly.

cats have very powerful hearing. he knows that the sound is comming from inside the piano not exactly where the note is comming from.

First the kitteh wants to learn the mechanics of how the sounds are produced.... then (at 1:02) he tries to learn how to read sheet music - before he attempts to play the keys. Hehe... he (or she) has quite a method :) Smart curious kitty. Thanks for the post!

This is so cute! I love how whenever a key is struck he starts to frantically look where the sound is coming from. My favorite part is when he gets up and looks into the piano. So very cute. I love it!

@catalot I've often wondered if orange cats ARE smarter or more trainable than the average feline. I've noticed a lot of cats featured in movies and T.V. are orange. Breakfast at Tiffany's and Rhubarb are two examples on film. And I can cite Morris and the newspaper delivering cat of Early Edition as two television examples. Maybe they're just more mellow.

He definitely seems interested. It reminds me of a child discovering the piano keys for the first time. Checking under the keys, checking the top of the piano then examining the score. Orange cats are very unique. Good luck developing his interest!
