Prior to 1981 the san diego river didn't flow out to the sea, it just filtered through the jetty into mission bay. Heavy rainfall (spring?) that year finally sent enough runoff to bust through the beach. Me and Jerry Leach (RIP) went down to witness this historical event . As the river started to carve a chanel, we ran home to get longboards. We were the first to shoot the san diego river into the sea. River flow hitting incoming waves made for a nasty, pounding, toxic mess. Waves look better.
