@boogiefever1985 You're right, they were never five numbers. This lady isn't entering a fake PIN either (well, it probably is, but not for the reason you say it is). Think about what you press on the keypad BEFORE you enter your PIN number.
The Australian Retailer's Association made a submission to the Reserve Bank of Australia in 2002 in response to the EFTPOS Industry Working Group which states that EFTPOS was introduced in Australia in 1984. Refer to Section 7 "The History of Debt" in ara_130902.pdf. Besides, other commercials on the same tape (during the same recorded tv show) allowed me to date this one quite accurately. As I recall, Coles was one of the first to implement it and it took a while to catch on.
I know it's a this comment is a bit old, but remember we kind of had 2 generations of Eftpos. When it was first introduced in 84, you could only use it if your supermarket banked with your bank? Westpac called it Handypay, NAB called it FlexiPay and ANZ called it something... I cant remember, maybe it was TRANZACT??? Our local one banked with NAB and there was just 1 terminal for all the registers. It was a HUGE chunky box.
And then like about in 88 or 89 they established the whole interbank transaction thing and you could use other ATM's other than your own banks as well as via any banks version of Eftpos. I would tend to think this places the ad somewhere around 91 because I had just finished high school and remember when Coles changed there logo's and they got rid of the old bright orange cash regisers and replaced them with the ones in the add, with the Eftpos units with the curly cords.
ANZ formed an exclusive relationship with Kmart & Super Kmart for their "TRANZWAY" system. NAB piggy-backed on this platform. The Commonwealth aligned with Westpac, implemented their Keycard transfer system (no Flash name) mainly within Caltex/Ampol sites. However Westpac (formerly Bank of NSW/ Commercial Bank) had long implemented "HANDYWAY" in all Woolworths/ BIG W &BP outlets. In fact, Handyway had pioneered electronic funds transfer before ANZ, Combank's and the NAB 'FLEXIPAY' systems.
Yep, pretty sure it's somewhere between 93-96,afterall, the coles logo in this Ad didn't come into circulation till 1991, replacing the previous coles new world logo
That voice sounds like the voice that does the TV guidlines commercial.

I think there is deliberately 5 digits, kinda like the fake 555 phone numbers :)
I remember this ad vaguely! It wouldn't be too early, if I can remember it.

@elliebellybabe38 They were never 5 numbers. It is a fake PIN for the purposes of the advertisement.

OK. I must have dated this one incorrectly. Since the logo was changed in 1991 and napalm suggests this is circa 1992, I'll admit I was wrong.
Thanks to urinemonster (what a name!) and napalm5.

OMG-WE CAN SEE HER PIN NUMBER.
mubd1234 3 years ago 12
@mubd1234 It's clearly a fake PIN (not pin number) because she presses five numbers not four.

This was from 1992. I have this same ad on a video tape
