The actress that plays the "older jane" I've seen her not look so plain, I've seen her look very fashion foward & attractive in "real life" I know her character based on the book, is supposed to unfornately, be very plain looking! She is also a "brilliant actress" I think :) I also love Janes dress too!
mr.mason was a handsome, tall and young man..not this old, fat, and bearded fellow...blanche ingram was supposed to be dark as a spaniard..and both in 2006 and this version she was a BLONDE!!! why the hell they dont stick to the facts??? what if they make blanche a brunette?? im sure they could have foundnd many actresses who could have made good and authentic blanche...
Mrs Reed is impossible. Jane never caused her any trouble. She was only in her life for ten years and even then she was ignored from the presence of Reed. Even after five or so years of Jane's absence she still treated her horribly. What a bitch! Honestly if I were Jane I would have ranted about this to her for hours.
Why is Blache always bloody blonde? Its like people dont think that beautiful brunettes exist, or bitchy brunettes, stop stereotyping blondes as stuck up bitches! (I'm brunette btw I'm just sick of seeing blonde blanches because shes friggin brunette!)
sorry but this version blows! they cut out key parts, they've introduced Mr. Rivers way too soon and in a way so completely different from the book. i suppose they are trying to do a creative variation, but maybe, just maybe they should keep the basic flow of the storyline the same, huh?
This version has the boringest Jane ever. She has no pluck, no spirit, no sense of humor -- nothing at all for Mr. Rochester to fall in love with. There are much better versions. I will say though, that this version is absolutely beautiful visually. I'm really enjoying watching it for that reason.
@misobaravi1996 she is not jealous. In the story, she thinks:If that great lady were a nice, kind and completely perfect person, she would have been very jealous with her.But Blanche Ingram(that great lady) is actually a wicked, cruel and shallow one,so jane thought that she had no reason to be jealous with that kind of person. She said she despised thta"love" because it's not real. And of course,Mr Rochester just want to make her irritate, like the way he is insane in love with her.
omg i adore his expression at 7:00 mins, this is my favourite version, although mr rochester could be a little more darkly sarcastic, and the blood a little more red than orange, cracked me up :)
awful AWFUL mutilated adaptation. no truthfulness to the book, no chemistry between the leads, plus most actors are miscast. and don't even get me started on McPherson's wooden pageantry (seriously, is she a real girl?)
if it weren't for the 1934 version which is bar far the worst most ridiculous Jane Eyre adaptation, this definitely would have taken the cake.
@becacsdfreitas every Jane Eyre adaptation I've ever seen has this exact hairstyle and I am always vaguely irritated by it - it's the hair looped around so you can see the ears that really annoys me :(
@IcaStarx they had to keep the movie short enough but still keep him in the storyline. By having him @ Gateshead they cut out the begging and misery after she leaves Thornfield.
I'm mad that they took out some good parts like the gypsy and the confrontation between Rochester and Jane after Mason leaves. wish i could see a movie that was at least accurate to the book
Mr. Rivers was on "Persuasion" he played Anne's cousin! That's cool, the girl that played Anne, and the person who played her cousin are this movie too!
sometimes the very fact that someone tells you how you feel will bring to the point where you can no longer hide the emotion. If you want to hide the emotion your only choice is to quickly leave the room.
I like the way Charlotte Gaisnbourgh plays the role: for me she is Jane Eyre. She captures her escence. I like the realism she gives to the character, she is not idealized unlike in most versions, and neither is Rochester. That's why I like this film; though I feel Rochester could have been more exploited.
The only thing I do not like is that many important parts of the book were cut off
He's 20 years older than her, like a dad to a daughter. It's interesting how couples with big gap in age existed since long yet it's still treated as a taboo matter. Difference in age, difference in point of view in life, much more so when you consider the bedroom part. In a psychological perspective, Jane might have liked Mr. Rochester because she has never had a dad, thus she likes someone who's mature. Besides, he's one of the only few (good) men Jane encounters.
@happy9999angel I'm not writing this to ruin the movie though, it's just a thought that occurred to my mind when I read the story and watch the movie. I like this version since at least the cast for Jane matches Jane's age (18-19). Although she's a bit cold.
I like this Jane very much!! Her performance suits well and is nearly identically to the book, I think. She is not that cold, but distant as she had been raised up at Brocklehurst's school, until she can't retain her feelings any longer...
Pity, that there has been no fortune teller and no 15 Pounds-scene...
Personalment me gusta mucho esta adaptación, quizá sea por los actores, me encanta Gainsbourg com Jane Eyre y William Hurt también es un dignísimo Rochester.
@LyraMeldy I love this version best too!!!! Most of the girls don't, maybe because Mr.R. is not as rudely passionate and brutal as in other versions ))) These are not mandatory qualities of manly men!!! And this soundtrack...lovely!! Hi from Russia!
@xoxodavidtennantxoxo It looked...like sticky paint. :/ -shudder- Yeah...I'm not really enjoying this version...the director took too many liberties with scenes from the book. I could cope with it if said changes added interest to the portrayal of the characters, but this version is just so...painfully bland.
now, now... this is a good version. and amazing casting... sir lawrence olivier's widow- joan plowright- as mrs. fairfax and pop singer charlotte gainsbourg as jane.

Not only is the scene with the gypsy missing, but also the scene with the money, the 15 pounds Jane receives prior to the trip.
I don't know I find Jane too serious and cold. She doesn't compare to the Janes in the 1983 and 2006 versions, IMHO.
