Hi, EXCELLENT REVIEWS It’s really great that someone started to make this kind of reviews on cars! I have one question, you said that the bmw is great on a country road,I’m in a search of a car that will drive excellent on a good twisty country road and I was always searching for a front wheel drive because everyone kept saying that with rear wheel drive there are greater chances in a corner at high speed of losing control and rolling over, I’d really appreciate your opinion and advice, thanks
@CapuchinoMk : Well, first of thanks for your comment and the kind words. It's not my best video, but people seem to like this car.
To your question: Think about it this way: A FWD-car's tyres have to do both: Steer and putting the power on the road= more stress for your tyres...In a RWD-car the steering is better for that reason, and with all the safety programms like DSC (Dynamic Stability Control), you don't need to be affraid of corners. Just give it a try yourself, I'm sure you'll like it

@kattlikzm : The 2 Liters came in 2009. The Acceleration felt pretty decent for a 122bhp-car to me. I used between 7 and 10 Liters ( only on the Autobahn while driving over 180kph) on 100 kilometers. All 1Series cars have a Start-Stop-System at standard that helps with the fuel consumption.
Thanks for the compliment ! Hope my infos will help you !
That said , as far as i see it they did that to keep the prices of the 116i &118i hatch a bit lower and a good starterspack for new bmw-drivers . Also don't forget , the hatch-chassis is lighter then the sporthatch-model , which also may be a reason why not to drop in a 1996cc in it..to keep it light and keep the emissions low ...
@TheAMGLover : I did my research on wikipedia and this video was recorded in 2010. Not sure about the specs in belgium, but thanks for sharing these informations with me !
Love the 1 series, if I needed two cars I would complement my E90 with an E87...just one question: is the 1.600 cc engine working well, or is it struggling to move the body of the car? A mechanic I spoke with told me that he didn´t recommended it since the weight-power relationship was not good, and that you need to floor it to get it "happy". Is that so? I did very well with my 1.600 cc engine in my 1989 E30, so I would guess the 1 series would be great with this engine. How about it?
@TheSRalston : Most people believe this is a 1600 cc, but it is actually a 2000cc engine ! Same kind of engine that is in the 118i and 120i, only with less horsepower. For sure the E87 is not a leight car like the E30s or E36s used to be, but I think it does a great job together with the 2000cc four-cylinder. Most BMWs build up their power in the higher revs and need to be floored, but...With these gearboxes and the sound from the engine, it's always a pleasure to do it !
@TheGetawayer Thank you for the response...but now I am more confused. I have here the 1 series brochure, and in the Specifications section I see the 116i, which I quote has "1.596 cm3, 85KW/6000RPM". The 120i, on the other hand says "1995 cm3". In my e90 318i I know it has a 2000cc engine, although it is called a 318i, but in the brochure, it doesn´t say that the 116i is 2000cc. Is it a regional thing? Because there is no 118i in this brochure, just the 120i and the 116i. Thank You!!
@TheSRalston : That must be an old brochure, buddy. Since March 2009 the 116i comes with the 2 liter engine that replaced the old and much more thirsty 1600cc that also had 122bph, just like the new engine but with less torque. Enginecode N43B20 for 116i, 118i and 120i, build since 2007 in the 118i and 120i
@TheGetawayer Damn right. Couldn´t find a print date for the brochure, but that must be the reason, an old one. Thank you for the explanation, it is a similar situation to my 318 i, with a 2.000 cm3 N46B20 engine. Coming from a M54 in a 2001 E39 (525i) I am impressed with how "torquey" these modern BMW engines are, even the small ones. Take care, nice reviews!!
Nice review, just getting one as my company car and yous is probably one of the best reviews out there...plus I liked you descriptions of the villages etc...by the way, I think the roofs on the village houses are called 'thatched'...made of straw! Great vid :)
i see nothing cosmetically pleasing about the 1 to look at and i also dont like the 3 series looks but love 5,6,7 and.x5 x6 looks very much

@TheGetawayer What about fuel? and does the 116i get up fast to 100?
And one more question! does ALL the 116i have 2,0 engines? or just some?
Great review by the way! thanks a lot for the video and for the quick response on my questions!

@TheGetawayer Here in Belgium it's even different :
the 'hatch' 116i & 118i = 1598cc
the 'sporthatch' , coupe & cabrio = all engines are 1995cc except the 130i which is a 2996cc
this is from the new 2011 car , so as i see it , only the lower spec 'hatch' model still uses the 1598cc-engine ;-)
