  • I totally agree with you BT as a fellow Kungfu practitioner I support you and your views all day keep spitting the REAL truth Sifu Novell good work keep it up KUNGFU all day bro

  • BT,, I gotta tell you,,this piece is 100% accurate !! youve put the frustrations that a lot of us have into words and I had to let you know its appreciated!

  • I agree. Thanks for the videos and help, it's proved a lot of inspiration for my own training and fight preparation here in Seattle.

  • What you said makes tons of sense. I've trained in various styles for decades. well two decades more or less. And you always see these kartate and kung fu dudes getting out banged by Muay Thai guys and boxers. The proof is in the pudding.

  • well spoken BT.

  • Any complete martial artist even if they want to honor their system, be it Shaolin, Wudang, Emei, Kara-te whatnot still know what movements work for THEM! Everyone's body is different, the advantages and disadvantages need to be taken in to account. Form is good but you have to learn how to use it in real combat against as many different people as you can. *bows* well said Sifu Bell.

  • People tend to forget that originally forms were an exercise that was part of a whole training system that included conditioning, spiritual awareness and sparring. All balanced helping you to achieve the final goal of a healthy life. Sadly, has led to what we see today, out of shape "masters" who are out of breath after doing simple drills, students with excellent forms/Kata but cant use techniques from those forms, brawlers who relies on luck but recite their lineage from memory. Balance

  • This is Bro Bilal We have met once or twice My sifu was Cleavon Morrisy He trained with my sigong Pedro Love ya! Novel. Bruce Lee say the same thing in different word. That what your saying is so true! There's nothing better than real contact.

  • i tried to kick like you do but it's a little sore with the joints of my supporting leg, at the hip initially and then at the knee when i hit it... what do you recommend? i really want to learn to kick like bagua

  • Well said!! Also, these guys who are "too deadly to spar" are BS because having control is just as/ if not more important than "hurting power".

  • Love your 411's.

I have been yearning to learn how to apply my applications but everyone in my class is much older than I am(middle age and up). And my only martial art friend says his art is "too dangerous to spar" no disrespect to him. Looks like I will have to bar hop to get any real practice(joking).

  • You think this is bad, you should see the Legends of Kung Fu tournament in Dallas. Group of beer-bellied sifus, dressing in robes, talking about being "true to form" in sparring. LOL

  • @onemindonespirit LOL.....LOL

  • @blacktaoist I agree with much you said on fighting in general. Getting hit is a "job hazard" that must be realized.

  • I totally agree with you Sifu Novell because it's been alot of application clips on youtube and you always see these so called teachers who do not apply or know how to apply their techniques in a real situation. It's good that there are teachers like yourself who see this and strive to educate because people are brainless to this and are being taken advantage of

  • Check out martialtaichi on YouTube. she shows some pretty good techniques. In my mind I picture an opponent in front of me when I practice solo forms I think they call it shadow boxing. But you are right most instructors teach empty movements with no mind intent.

  • Tell it ! ur on point and I'm a kung fu guy! Training is specific, ur good at what u practice. peace

  • we were learning forms on the second day, without learning any balancing fundamentals, or the WHY behind the form.

  • this is exactly what my husband said to me when my daughters and myself was taking taekwando classes. he said yeah it looks nice, but i'll be impressed when one of you can take me down! lol.

  • Damn...there's gonna a lot of HURT FEELINGS...AGAIN!!! lol! Oh well, these cats need to hear the truth...AGAIN. A little less art and a lot more martial. Let's get it!

  • @bklyngutta I have nothing to gain only sharing my martial art life experience and perspective on how I see thing in life far dealing with the Chinese martial arts world...LOL The problem today is a lot of Kung Fu people who teach Kung Fu are to kept up in training fancy forms and thinking they are going to become deadly fighters. I train solo KF routines myself which I enjoy doing. But I know when it comes to the reality of fighting. I practice the art of fighting. (free fighting )

  • Nice points BT.
