I believe in the Pilot episode Penny mentions working for the Cheesecake Factory because Sheldon reminds Leonard that he's lactose intolerant. Leonard replies something to the effect of, "I didn't say I eat cheesecake, I just think it's a good idea." Also, Howard introduces himself while Penny's in a towel and waiting for Leonard to help her with the shower and Penny tells him she works for the Cheesecake Factory.
