That boat is somewhere between 9-14'. That's a ~45' drop on the generous side. Probably closer to 35'. Your tween could hop that height and be completely fine as long as the pool is around 15' deep. 10' for an adult and <8' for a very good K1'er (actual whitewater kayaker in a WW boat).

I've run a few waterfalls, nothing to big. below 20ft, its pretty hard to fuck up if the reversal isn't to bad. but in general, kayakers tend to be pretty good at not running something when its out of their ability level. the rule of thumb is if your not sure, don't run it. and making fun of someone for not doing something is severely frowned upon. one of the reasons why I love the sport so much.

the star series is good, same with projects. but before you buy, demo demo demo demo. its not about numbers, its about what works best for you. it is worth spending the extra money to find the perfect boat. the reason why judging by numbers only doesn't work is there are so many ways the hulls vary in shape.
