I have a UV7BK and it has the lowest action of any guitar I've ever played... The neck is thicker than the rg550 i have, but its very doubtfull you'd lose anything going to a universe... it is a guitar which was designed for shredding.

The Universe (as most 7-strings) have the same lenght as a 6-sting, but it's wider. If you don't play the seventh string (and don't try to hook your thumb like a baseball bat) it's just like playing a standard guitar ;) So, get that Universe
