i did that yesterday and it worked just fine. I took an antiseptic needle instead and drilled in slowly. The procedure did not hurt at all, in fact it was a great relief to the pain before!
Please be aware that if you have an underlying fracture to the phalanx below the nail, then you risk causing an open wound over the fracture and increase the risk of oesteomylitis - an infection of the bone. An emergency department use a special device which is quick and does not need reheating over and over again
Good video but it may leave the impression that this is painful. The nail is dead so its just like clipping. Find a more sanitary location. Preferred method to this method is to wipe the nail with alcohol then use a large needle (one with a bevel at the point like they use when you give blood) and gently press/drill the nail at the centre of the hematoma. Do two holes for large bruises. The relief is instant and wonderful. You'll probably lose the nail but polysporin it daily.
