Yes, even if you have analog with no cable. That is until February 17, 2009 when everything goes to digital. As far as sign offs, I don't think thats going happen again unless there's maintenance that has to be done on the transmitters. Then again with networks like NBC having their all night programming, sign offs are a thing of the past.
ok, maybe you can answer this one for me. Whatever happened to the channel 13 late show, and all the other late shows? Personally, I am HEAVILY AGAINST this whole cable thing taking over channels at the wee hours of the night. I might start a petition of those who want sign-offs to come back because its a waste of time for stupid infomericals and 24/7 programming in general. Then again, I am trying to relive the 1980s.
I'm with you. As far as the late shows, I guess they weren't drawing enough revenue for the stations. The only station that still does anything close to having a late movie is the CW (WNUV) that airs at 2:00 AM. Have you tried sending letters to the GM's of the stations. I am not sure how far you'll get with this, but this is one way to be heard. Me personally, I think they need to bring back the Television Code. After all it's supposed to Broadcasting In The Public Interest.
If I will do this, will you help me? I can't do this alone.. and as far as the sign-offs - really I think they all should do that + bring back the late shows to REPLACE the ridiculous infomercials by the cable company. I would like to do this, but if you can help me, that would be great. I am located in northwest Baltimore.
I esp would like to see channel 13 bring back the 13 late show to replace those garbage paid programming crap.
Hi Nadav34,
Sorry I have been out of touch. Have you sent letters to the GM'S of the stations. What were their response to you

Does WBAL-TV still sign-off in the last hours of the night(ANALOG ONLY! and for those without cable tv)
Nadav34 3 years ago
The answer to that is no. 24 hours, 7 days a week.

even if I have a standard analog tv with no cable coming into it?
What would be the only way that stations would ever consider going back to sign-offs? would it happen if the population votes against infomercials?

Pat Mincarin was also anchor with Sue Zelenko at WTSP in Tampa after his stint at 'BAL in the mid-90's. I don't where he's working at now.

cool WBAL promo. i haven't promos like that since i was 6 years old. BTW, do u have any WMAR promos from the 80s and the 90s?

I think I have a few, WMAR on Ch.2 is tough to receive down in DC, 11 and 13 always came in better. That's why I have more of their stuff.
