  • happy friday the thirteenth

  • Best thing to come out of Modesto

  • Lovely song. I heard it on SiriusXMU today. The arpeggio reminds of me of flying around on some blue Repulsion Gel. It made me happy.

  • Its so catchy

  • Awesome song, brilliant video, from one of my favourite bands. Jason Lytle has a charming, innocent quality to his voice which always compliments Grandaddy tracks.

  • I want a bear to dance with =(

  • I didn't listen to grandaddy for eons! what happend to me?!?!?!

  • love grandaddy <3 hate that such a great band had to split up because the public couldnt recognise how great they were.

  • this is the coolest thing i've ever fucking heard

  • the dogs are dead with broken hearts.

  • If I had my three wishes, one of them would be for a flying shed.

  • 1:52 : Camera Fail... ^^

  • I love the bear!

  • I like how that hat doesn't make him look like a douche.

  • Jason, I could not agree with you more. I'd have to get out of there too...

    Thanks for the great music!

  • im telling all my friends to listen to Grandaddy!!!!!!

  • Great track

  • Your music is awesome! I made a music video for Jed's other poem, Check it out!

  • heard these about 5 or 6 years ago and only remembered one of their songs the other day yet i couldnt remember the bands name - then for the first time ever VEVO was actually useful because they advertised the band.

  • Genius work that is all.

  • Ushanka!!!!!! FTW XD

  • they sound like an indie grunge band, very underrated.

  • @JoshRobertson142 -grunge? lol I dont think they'd quite fit into that genre;or any genre for that matter. Grandaddy is Grandaddy. Unique. I love every one of their songs and its a shame they broke up. They have so many unregistered songs. Where Im anymore, hand crank transmitter, protected from the rain, underneath the weeping willow, just so many. I just wish I had been an adult to see them Live. Im not even an adult now. But they sound incredible. Thank you for keeping them posted Jerome.

  • one of the last great Indie songs, ten years since I heard it as a naive 17 year old, 27 now how much this song has been there for me

  • At least they sound original. Not everyone can say that these days... Stays a great song !

  • Grandaddy is one of my favorite bands besides Sublime. So many people have missed out on the talent that is Grandaddy.

  • You are a very respectful person. Play on. Best regards. Jerome

  • @JeromeLytle Jason's beautiful music is special to a lot of people; me included. Thank you for sharing.

  • I'm a musician, guitarist,

    this band changed my life,

    much respect.

  • my girlfriend hates Grandaddy...wtf does she know?

  • @swampdodger33 that calls for an immediate dumping

  • @swampdodger33 She better know she's in trouble.

  • The best band to ever come out of Modesto! I was one of the kids that would hang out at City Skates when Aaron worked there. I remember the cool stickers that looked like a John Deere tractor logo. All of us skateboarders were really into this band. Ive always been hesitant to tell people were Im from but it always sounds alittle better when I say "Grandaddy is from there too" haha!

Last time I saw Jason I was working at the Trader Joes in Modesto and he went through my line. Awesome!

  • What a great comment about Jason. Yes, I'm very proud of him and his accomplishments. He deserves all the credit. Jerome

  • Jerome - you must be a very proud father! I followed Grandaddy from day one when UTWF came out here in the UK and the radio played "Summer Here Kids". Now I'm pushing 50 but they are still my "go to" band, and two of my kids are huge fans. I can't begin to tell you how much the music has meant to me over the years. Thanks to Grandaddy, thanks to Jason - he is clearly part of a Phenomenal Lineage!

  • Great music. Listened to Yours Truly, the Commuter. Need more of this Jason!!

  • The melody sounds like Muse..

  • this song was first introduced to me on the "mark and Lard" radio1 program.....it immediately made an impact on the music i was writing at the time.

now, although i have retired from writing music, it still makes me smile !

this song brings back great memories, you were a great influence and i thank you for it :)

  • Thank you, Jerome, for not only fathering an incredibly talented child but sharing him with the world. I grew up listening to Grandaddy, and the band has helped me through a lot of hard times. It's sad to see them apart, but I'm too grateful that they were around when I needed them the most.

  • i love this song! a hidden beauty

  • Great video Jerome, thanks for posting. Didn't realise until I was listening with earphones on that the intro to this song on the cd is a nod to ELO, with near enough the same spoken words backwards as the intro to ELO's ' Fire on high ' great touch!

  • i found this on my grandpas computer years ago LOL

  • Thank you so much for your kind comments. Jerome Lytle.

  • Hi Jerome!

I just read in one your comments that you're Jason's dad right? In that case, Happy Father's Day! We're from Guatemala (in Canada now), and we first heard of Grandaddy around 2002, we've been great fans of Jason's music since. You should know you did a great job with that kid!

Please tell him his great work with Grandaddy will not be forgotten. Our kids love it.. a favorite for road trips is their amazing Fambly Cat album. Tell him thank you SO MUCH.. he's given us so much joy!!

  • this is the best song ever ♥

  • all my love is with this band! and especially this album!!!!!!!!

  • High in an Andean valley this one time, I borrowed an old Peruvian campesino's guitar and played this song for him. I didn't have an arpeggiator going, but he liked it nonetheless. I love this song.

  • I try to turn people on to Grandaddy every chance i get since i first heard them in 2000...it's because of j lytle that i fell in love with home recording.

  • Grandaddy one of my top 10 bands ever and I'm 48 so I've heard a few!

Bought "Under the Western Freeway" on the strength of "Summer Here Kids" - saw them at the Boardwalk in Sheffield, England ... just amazing. Great stuff - very sorry when they disbanded but sh*t happens. Good luck to the guys whatever they go on to do, and thanks for some great musical memories. I'll have "Lava Kiss" played at my funeral ;-)

  • I'm just discovering Grandaddy after falling in love with Beautiful Ground. Why do I never hear of the really good music until after the bands have broken up? Must acquire discography.

  • Great album

  • Thank you so much. I'll tell Jason you commented. Jerome

  • @JeromeLytle The most exquisite heartfelt otherworldly piece of heaven ever laid on record. Im a surrealist artist they inspire me when I create

  • a new kind of Tardis :-)

  • this reminds me of the video to milk lizard by the dilinger escape plan

  • for ever and ever.

  • PESMETINA!!!

  • I love this song because it sounds so honest, it really comes from their hearts... R.I.P Grandaddy.

  • I love this song!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • AWESOME!!!! HAIL FROM GREECE

  • @riaky8

Φίλε, το τελευταίο πράγμα που περίμενα ήταν να βρώ Έλληνα. Συγχαρητήρια για το γούστο σου ρε μάγκα!!!

BTW, many thanks for the beautiful memories you brought us back with this characteristic tune!

  • Ya, Uncle Jason does. Hi Alec.

  • WOW you got a ton of views on this video grandpa!

  • i love the video :)

  • Fun fact: Muse frontman Matt Bellamy Is a fan of Grandaddy - something that is extremely evident if you listen to this song, and then listen to Muse's "Bliss" you almost do a double-take on hearing their synth arpeggio.

  • @451harri thats fucking crazy! that explains why i think of grandaddy when muse does synth arpeggio stuff like that

  • @joeyc5446 The Sophtware Slump is literally one of his favourite albums of all time, or at least it was when they were recording OOS.

  • We love this song, this group... We met Jason because our 2nd Album Maarten "My favorite Sheriff" has been produced by him. Willo, our youtube page is our Side project

  • Hi Jerome. I love this song. Are you Jason's brother? The band did a great job on the video. It's the first time I've seen it. What year was it made? I ask because I'm in it and I kind of need to know. I've been to Hell and back since then so I just can't remember. I'm the "angry business woman", about a minute 10 into it. You had originally wanted a guy for the part but lucky me...! Tell Jerome great luck with Admiral Radley. I hope his Sweden tour went well. Best.... Thumbs up on the vid...!

  • @CeliaKaytTyll Hello. I'm Jason's Dad. The song was in the "Software Slump" CD which came out in 2000. I'm thinking the "Crystal Lake" video came out around then.

I don't have anything to do with Jason's music. I just splash a lot of it on my youtube site. Jerome

  • @JeromeLytle

Hi. If you're really Jason's father, please do thank him from me. He's done some terrific stuff - been enjoying his music for many years.

  • @CeliaKaytTyll I produced this music video and also appeared in it (I am the dancing bear at the end of the video). I think this was done in the spring of 2000 and it is one of the favorite music videos I have ever produced...and it was done all in one day!

  • @MutinyPictures Well.. you are ONE talented bear!!

Maybe you'll produce one of my videos some day... !

CRYSTAL LAKE was a fun shoot. Everyone was very nice and down to earth... great band, great production! Thanks for casting me... I know you had been wanting a guy in the part but casting snuck me in. Thanks for responding to my question. Best always, C. Kat

  • Completely.

  • i love music like this because no one hates on it. everyone just realizes how beautiful it is and never comes to it with negative things to say. . hope that made sense, but tis why i love bands like this! cheers to all

  • Indie Rock is what its all about.

  • i love this song

  • I reckon they're fans of ELO. I can hear bits in there from Eldorado, Face The Music etc...

  • @astronomenoff99 Nice listening! They actually cover Shangri-La at the end of Just Like the Fambly Cat.

  • The city looks just like the city from EA Skate.... anyone?

  • 2:30 lololol thats what makes this music video. and the bear part. and the whole thing

  • I saw Elliott Smith/Grandaddy in boston in 2000! Best show ever!

  • finally i found it i heard this song ages ago when i was high and i loved it now i am happy

  • I LIKED THE MUSIC. but the vocal is booooooring

  • Beyonce, Owl City, Rappers, awful commercial country 'artists' are still putting out 'albums', yet these guys are gone.

What is wrong with the world?

  • does that flying cabin remind anyone else of the TARDIS?

  • saw Jason last night in Cambridge UK with Midlake - treated to Grandaddy encore! best night

  • This band has restored my hope in modern and futer music. TGFG = Thank God For Grandaddy

  • i just found out about Grandaddy after reading that these guys opened for elliott in 2000. this is like the perfect mix of elliott smith/quasi/radiohead/nada surf. and of course these guys are no longer together.

  • Never heard of these guys before but they are FRABJOUS!!

  • i just discovered this band and now im sad that they are not still around

  • thumbs up for the flying porta potty

  • where moment where jason sings on silence like in bathroom, first time i shocked by this moment and this song become favourite, fucking mtv

  • i still remember grandaddy opening for elliott smith... will it ever get any better than that?? (i need something to look forward to)

  • shut up ya raj...istan...brill song

  • i dont understand why everyone says people should listen to this music and not that music, and why don't more people listen to this music? Who cares what other people listen to? You care? Well get over it. I am a proud Justin bill-berry fan. There I said it. and yes I do eat shit for breakfast.

  • i used to live just up the street from where some of this was filmed (downtown LA, by the Marriott).

  • Heh. I don't really like cities either.

  • I've got this recorded on VHS but haven't had a VCR for ages. I'd taped it from music TV years ago when we got a lot more variety in Britain from satellite channels rather than the constant stream of shiny lady arses waving in my face to regurgetated R&B shite. Wonderful song.

  • a great band and this song always sounds like ELO to me.

  • Theyre like a nicotine rush !!

  • Una banda que por suerte no mucha gente conoce. un temazo

  • Comment removed

  • grandaddy's soo awesome i wish people would listen to music like this not f**kn justin watshisface or wateva the crap that most people listen to today is called

  • This is the most incredible band you've never heard of. Thanks for the U/L. :)

  • One of the very most beautiful songs ever anywhere! So beautiful and psychedelic and cute and wonderful!!!!: )

  • @winterstellar, It sounds like you are beautiful and wonderful too. Jerome

  • im surprised theses guys aren't more popular really they sound so much better than most crap theses days

  • @romeocrumb1 Actually they broke up in 2006. Jason Lytle and Aaron Burch of Grandaddy joined with two members of Earlimart to form a group called Admiral Radley. Check them out.

  • @JeromeLytle Thanks for flagging this up (even if it was 5 months ago.) I dig YouTube. Far better than that Facebook rubbish!

  • @romeocrumb1 youre kidding right? this shit sucks. i'd rather listen to a rihanna/justin beiber collaboration.

  • @romeocrumb1 because music corporations took control over the media and create singers as lady gaga...showing that being a bitch is something normal and natural...and independent

  • @romeocrumb1 being better than today's music doesn't say much at all...

  • @romeocrumb1 They broke up =( Jason still does stuff. Not sure about the rest. But yes, many years of my youth (not that i have stopped heh) were spent listening to Grandaddy records. So amazing.

  • okay for a bunch of lonely white dudes but still kinda sucky most of the time

they have good songs here and there but lotsa filler

  • cool finaly found !

  • Ребята, с сегодняшнего дня я ваш фанат,зацепило, очень.

  • Это кайф, на такие банды стоит обращать внимание, с сегодняшнего дня я ваш фанат!

  • there best song. a damn good song.

  • This vid made me really really happy ^__^

  • NEW VIDEO!!!!!

    youtube.com/watch?v=vaWZetBfx9o

  • I wish Grandaddy would get back together :( I miss them :/ Well, Jason is my favourite and he's in a band called Admirel Radley, along with that Aron guy who drums. Woop, my two fave band memebers! ;)

  • youtube : mellow drone what happened.

    anyone else notice the similarities?

  • anyone know the director's name?

  • nature vs modernity- the bear segment is great..

  • I'm a big fan of the band and this is a great song, but I don't think the video suits it at all. The meaning behind the song is actually very poignant and IMO deserves a bit more than a couple of sight gags involving a flying shed and a canoe going down the street. So yeah, great song, bad video.

  • wait.....isnt crystal lake haunted? because of Jason?

  • This band was great

    but they had shitty management

just goes to show you that without a good entertainment lawyer you can be in the greatest band in the world and still be a broke ass

  • Grandaddy is easily one of the greatest American bands of the last 20 years.

  • Please make a comeback !! fans from Malaysia.

  • Some of the best times in my life were at grandaddy shows in austin. I consider myself lucky that i was abel to see em.

  • I absolutely adore this tune. Prefer the album version, but there's nothing quite like it...

  • @tdp1909 its the same version

    dickhead

  • @HipsterKiller Really? Then why is the album version 5 minutes long? This version is abridged from the album (see 1:25 compared to the original song).

Maybe it wasn't the band's management that failed them - it was having self-righteous, abusive trolls (like you) among their fans...

  • @tdp1909 Only a nerd like you would even notice some shit like that

ITS THE SAME FUKKING RECORDING ( THE SAME NO DIFFERENCES AT ALL)

they just shortend it for video dumfuk

  • Comment removed

  • @HipsterKiller I only noticed because it's one of my favourite albums & it may be essentially the same but abridging still makes it a DIFFERENT VERSION.

You seem to be a particularly nasty troll & I suggest that you go and see a councillor, rather than perjoratively insult random people on the Internet (a quick look at your profile shows that you do this all over Youtube.)

Kindly don't post any more rants on my profile or I'll have you blocked.

  • @tdp1909 I suggest you get fucked and realize that the version is not different but shorter. A " different version" suggests that it is a different take or a different mixing of the song. This is not the case so IT IS NOT A DIFFERENT VERSION

FUCK YOU I WILL DO WHAT I WANT BLOCK ME I DON'T CARE

  • @HipsterKiller You really are charming, aren't you?

Wow - big deal - so it's a 'shorter', not a 'different', version (in your opinion). It is still 'different' &, unlike you, I don't need Caps lock & ranting to make it true.

Is that really what floats your boat? What a sad life you lead.

And indeed you can do what you want - I never said you couldn't - but it's more difficult if people block you for being a particularly disturbed, pedantic fool.

  • Wow.

  • They should have never split up. Every band has there differences. They were and still are amazing

  • The TARDIS shed...

  • The look on Jason's face after meeting the bear is totally priceless. =D

  • @TheFlyingFerron . You're so right Jordan.

  • @TheFlyingFerron Agreed.

  • v great comment v

  • The bear in the video has the right attitude, I'd start rocking out too if I walked into a shed and found Grandaddy jamming. I'd also be fucking delighted that they had got back together!

  • please! grandaddy comeback!!!

  • so good so good

  • Comment removed

  • shining somewhere far away from here

  • Arpeggios sound like Philip Glass! Used to get reeeeaaaalllly stoned and listen to Grandaddy in college. Fuck Phish and other jam band shit - stuff like Grandaddy and prog rock is THE music to listen to when high. The complexity of it takes you to another world!

  • one of the best shows i ever saw was these guys at the fox in boulder. amazing

  • oh no ....... bring my youth back .....

  • Greetings from Brasil.

    Stupendous band.

  • I saw Grandaddy in concert in Germany. Just for one moment like this life is worth it. Emotional level matched only once since by The Arcade Fire. My life would not have been the same without the albums Under the Western Freeway and The Sophtware Slump from Grandaddy

  • Thanks for the great comment.

  • @francoisu great comment

  • @francoisu I completely agree. Saw Grandaddy in Newcastle, UK a long while ago after being a fan for a long time, and it left such an impression on me. The Sophtware Slump is one of the most incredible albums of all time and will continue to be part of the soundtrack to my life, for the rest of my life.

  • lol my daughter said this is a joe brother song :D

  • 2:53

  • when did this song come out?

  • All Along The Graveyard The Night Watchman Takes Us On An Instrumental Journey As We Listen For The Sounds Of His Guitar To Guide Our Way...Inside..For Only The Dead Can Hear My Music The Living Will Continue To Be Lost....

  • I love the whole album, but I had a certain idea of what the album meant, this video is not it.

I still love the song, but I will try not remember this while I am listening to it, I kinda wish I never saw the video.

  • video is weird, but creative. the song is just awsome! :)

  • little masterpiece with an astounding production... keep em coming please

  • Awesome song. Awful video.

  • i LIKE the video..it is cute and simple...i dig the canoeing part

  • my uncle is the drummer

    aaron

  • Thats pretty darn dope!

  • If you are serious about this being your uncle I have a few questions I would love to ask him and the other band members. If there is anyway you could set that up for me I would be extremely appreciative.
