The perfect companion is the Nokia booklet..12 hours of battery life, fabulous contruction and the machine apple should have made... the iphone os is a very poor system for a laptop/netbook replacement...Have you actually tried an iPad out? It's heavy in the hand, you need knees to use it (not much good on a plane) and it does nothing useful...

It does not Multi-Task. That is my main complaint, because as we all know, Multi-Tasking is a HUGE part of computing, and has been for a very long time now! I'm a little surprised that any new computing product would be lacking this feature that everyone is accustomed to having now days on their computing devices.
Yes, it does not have multi-tasking yet, but the iPhone OS 4.0 supports multi-tasking, and it will come to the iPad in Spring, so if you buy it now, you can always upgrade to OS 4, with the click of a button on your PC or Mac.
the Adam is a neat alternative if you want to multitask or do video conferences or take pictures or run an open OS etc. etc.
Of course, I can't deny that the iPad is very estetical. But it's just a tablet, just like any other tablet. it isn't the second coming of the messiah.
I could go for a normal usb-contact though. you'd think it was common place today with USB, but maybe they're holding out and waiting for USB3 to be standard before implementing it.

god, they are like the dad who wants the son to think they are cool. A lot of praise and no content. They are downplaying the problems with flash, flash isn't just for videos and games. A LOT of websites use flash on they're websites(according to opera soft. 30 to 40% of sites use flash).
Flash is horrible. It is a slow ugly plugin that uses way to much CPU power. But because it has monopolized the Internet people feel it is the only solution. There is a new technology coming up that I predict apple and other companies including google\YouTube will shortly switch to, it is HTML5. In a year or 2 HTML5 will overtake and increase speed on the Internet, I predict it will be in the iPhone nd ipad shortly also
Everything you've said is old news.........and you botched the facts badly. HTML5 will NEVER replace Flash. That's not what it was intended to do. Having dedicated Audio and Video HTML tags does not mean it's going to replace a particular type of content. Everyone knows this......except you obviously.
And I'm sorry, but HTML5 won't be anywhere NEAR standard for another 6-8 years. In fact, most experts are predicting a full 10 years before it becomes standard.

Good Luck with AT&T's crummy 3G GSM network. The I-Phone doesn't work right in the majority of AT&T rural areas and suffers from slow speeds in Metro areas when traffic is high. I wouldn't waste my money.

No way to pop the battery out when it runs dead on a long flight, so you will have to carry a plug in battery back to keep it going.
Any kind of camera will have to be a clip on accessory to pack around.
You fools asking for flash are morons. Apple is in the process of replacing flash with HTML5 and H264 encoded video. Just look at how many sites have already created IPhone version of their videos. Flash sucks, on any device. It wastes CPU power, eats RAM, kills battery life. Steve Jobs said browsing time on the iPhone would be reduced from 10 hours to 1.5 hours if they had enabled flash.

I have an iPhone and I love it... BUT... I will not buy an ipad. My phone does everything I need it to do and if it can't I have my desktop. If they added multitasking and flash I'd consider it but until then, no. Why am I gonna pay $500 for something that only offers a bigger screen??? In that case I'll just hook up my phone to my flat screen and I'm set. Case closed.
No multitasking, not the full internet (no flash/internet videos), no web cam, no USB port. I'll wait for the HP slate instead....The web pages on this devices will put lego blocks in place of videos....just like the iphone and ipod touch....really sad...
It's an absolute winner especially with existing iPhone users - at least speaking for my circle of friends. I barely use my laptop anymore because it's just too bulky. I definitely already see some of the same issues currently a problem with the iPhone arising here though. With all this said ... I'll wait for the 2nd generation, as I did with my iPhone!

Walt is wrong about Jobs never having created a market for a "size" that didn't exist. The Apple //c was the first really "portable" computer--the computer was a bit larger than current laptops--and the original PowerBooks were much smaller than other laptops at the time. (Let's not mention the Newton, which was ahead of its time and had problems.)
Just to let everyone know, the ipad doesn't have flash and won't have the newest HTML5. So it's just the same thing as an iPod but it's bigger, the mail, photos, YouTube, and safari app will look a bit different, and you can watch HD videos on the YouTube app.

Once people start seeing this thing, Kindle and other book readers are done. No one is going to beat it, people have been trying to beat the iPhone for years, and all have failed still.
It's not a giant iPod touch, it's really in between a smartphone and tablet computer. It does productivaty software, it does ebook reading, it has a great screen for movies and is super fast. I wouldn't buy one but I really like it.

I agree with you completly but there is no doubt in my mind that this thing will turn a profit. If people are choosing used iphones from craigslist over newer, comparativley cheaper android or other smart phones you know they can count on steady stream of cash from their dedicated followers.
The other thing I'm curious about is if, and I do mean IF, this thing is at least an initial smash-hit, it's impact on the 'tablet' niche of computing will be incredible. Just because my username says I'm an an Apple fan doesn't mean I'm not a fan of technology as a whole. I love Adobe. They're a great company. Flash has been great over the years. But just as Michael and Walt said, HTML 5 IS slowly coming about the internet. Although, David did make an excellent point that they should put Flash in it just for the fact that the consumer wants to surf what they want to surf. But that leads me back to the fact that HTML 5 is coming. Things come and go.
I can't believe they have high expectations for that piece of crap. It's pretty much a dvd player with internet access. You can't do much with that shit. If apple made a similar product that has atleast the same capabilities as a laptop than that product would be something you would look forward to.

You are comparing Ipad that usually has a monthly fee of 15 to 30 dollars a month, to Kindle, which does not have a monthly fee and is much easier on the eyes for reading e books. The Ipad with 3G Internet abilty is 60% more expensive than the base model.

Flash is horrible. It is a slow ugly plugin that uses way to much CPU power. But because it has monopolized the Internet people feel it is the only solution. There is a new technology coming up that I predict apple and other companies including google\YouTube will shortly switch to, it is HTML5. In a year or 2 HTML5 will overtake and increase speed on the Internet, I predict it will be in the iPhone nd ipad shortly also

Everything you've said is old news.........and you botched the facts badly. HTML5 will NEVER replace Flash. That's not what it was intended to do. Having dedicated Audio and Video HTML tags does not mean it's going to replace a particular type of content. Everyone knows this......except you obviously.
And I'm sorry, but HTML5 won't be anywhere NEAR standard for another 6-8 years. In fact, most experts are predicting a full 10 years before it becomes standard.

Good Luck with AT&T's crummy 3G GSM network. The I-Phone doesn't work right in the majority of AT&T rural areas and suffers from slow speeds in Metro areas when traffic is high. I wouldn't waste my money.

@Millahtime This will need several accessories for a plane. Some kind of kick-stand\holder to support it upright on a seatback table so your kid\spouse\friend in your row can watch it too. No way to pop the battery out when it runs dead on a long flight, so you will have to carry a plug in battery back to keep it going.
Any kind of camera will have to be a clip on accessory to pack around.

You fools asking for flash are morons. Apple is in the process of replacing flash with HTML5 and H264 encoded video. Just look at how many sites have already created IPhone version of their videos. Flash sucks, on any device. It wastes CPU power, eats RAM, kills battery life. Steve Jobs said browsing time on the iPhone would be reduced from 10 hours to 1.5 hours if they had enabled flash.
If you don't like Apple, stop using flash as a pathetic excuse to avoid buying it. The iPad is the future.

Even if it had flash, haters would still find some other reason to hate on it. Seriously, theres just no pleasing some people. All they do is look for faults instead of positives. Lack of flash is just a very convenient excuse for them to hate on the iPad as much as possible.
I think its so funny that the haters actually pay more attention to the iPad than the majority of people buying one. Go figure. They focus so much on a product that they claim sucks.

I have an iPhone and I love it... BUT... I will not buy an ipad. My phone does everything I need it to do and if it can't I have my desktop. If they added multitasking and flash I'd consider it but until then, no. Why am I gonna pay $500 for something that only offers a bigger screen??? In that case I'll just hook up my phone to my flat screen and I'm set. Case closed.

It's an absolute winner especially with existing iPhone users - at least speaking for my circle of friends. I barely use my laptop anymore because it's just too bulky. I definitely already see some of the same issues currently a problem with the iPhone arising here though. With all this said ... I'll wait for the 2nd generation, as I did with my iPhone!

Walt is wrong about Jobs never having created a market for a "size" that didn't exist. The Apple //c was the first really "portable" computer--the computer was a bit larger than current laptops--and the original PowerBooks were much smaller than other laptops at the time. (Let's not mention the Newton, which was ahead of its time and had problems.)

Just to let everyone know, the ipad doesn't have flash and won't have the newest HTML5. So it's just the same thing as an iPod but it's bigger, the mail, photos, YouTube, and safari app will look a bit different, and you can watch HD videos on the YouTube app.

It's not a giant iPod touch, it's really in between a smartphone and tablet computer. It does productivaty software, it does ebook reading, it has a great screen for movies and is super fast. I wouldn't buy one but I really like it.

The other thing I'm curious about is if, and I do mean IF, this thing is at least an initial smash-hit, it's impact on the 'tablet' niche of computing will be incredible. A lot of us can agree that the ipad could, potentially, suck a LOT of ass. But the products it could inspire from it's compettitors... well, that's excting.

The reason the iPhone / iPod touch were so amazing because they were so small and they did alot.
iPad is just giant iPod Touch and it will suck if iPhone/iPod Touch can't do what the iPad does.

Just because my username says I'm an an Apple fan doesn't mean I'm not a fan of technology as a whole. I love Adobe. They're a great company. Flash has been great over the years. But just as Michael and Walt said, HTML 5 IS slowly coming about the internet. Although, David did make an excellent point that they should put Flash in it just for the fact that the consumer wants to surf what they want to surf. But that leads me back to the fact that HTML 5 is coming. Things come and go.
