  • I rather like studying to this kind of music. It keeps my kinda lunatic mind satisfied while I study for an exam that starts in an hour and a half at 6:30 in the morning.

  • Part I of IV - Start

Ambient music is simply an extension-continuation of New Age music.

This selection seems to fall better, under the category of Space Music (which has been around for half-a-century!) Those of you venturing in this direction will find a whole new musical universe, filled with many pleasant surprises!

  • "New Age" music is an extension of Ambient. Ambient pre-dates the term "New Age." Brian Eno is a major pioneer of Ambient.

  • I stand corrected, I had forgotten about the Eno album titled 'Ambient 1: Music for Airports' (1978)

Btw, 'Ambient' has its roots far earlier, to around the turn of century (19th to 20th, that is...) to Erik Satie & his 'Musique d'ameublement' (Furniture Music.)

    Thanks for the correction :)

Soundtracks which could be added to this category as well, are Mark Isham's 'Film Music' & 'Tibet.'

  • New Age music got drums, ambient has no drums

  • So you wouldnt call Aphex Twins early songs ambient?

  • Part II of IV - Continued

Those who like this type of music should try: Steven Halpern, Jonn Serrie, Ray Lynch, Vangelis, Michael Stearns, Sigur Ros, Brian Eno, Robert Rich, Kevin Braheny, Klaus Schulze, Tomita, Tangerine Dream, Andreas Vollenweider, Constance Demby, Omega, Geodesium, Steve Roach, etc.

  • Part III of IV -- Continued

Please note that above musicians are but a small selection among many & their styles vary a bit. While Vangelis, Kevin Braheny, Jonn Serrie, Michael Stearns & Steve Roach would better please those who like this particular selection; Andreas Vollenweider may better please those who prefer a more traditional, acoustic approach.

  • Part IV of IV -- End

By the way, those of you wanting something very special should seek-out musical selections originally offered by an NPR (radio) show/series titled: "From the Hearts of Space." There're many years (decades?) worth of selections out there & will be a real "treat" for those of you just discovering this genre.
