Mortsey thanks for the reply I do agree that Jesus was both GOD and Human at the same time but I also think that many Christians forget the Human part of Jesus and this song just highlighted that fact. It is easier to think of Jesus as GOD but in accepting Him as Human challenges us greatly to follow His footsteps as humans ourselves. Ta. xxx
its impossible to listen to this song once. you listen to it, and you are like "oh, im guessing he's talking about himself or family/a friend." and then you get to the end and realize its about Jesus. then you have to go back and listen to the song again putting it in the perspective of "its Jesus he's talking about." i absolutely love this song. we are singing it for church soon.(:
I don't think we should argue over how we see this song. It all depends on your background how you first interpret it. I am not trying to say 'love and peace' or anything, but just that I think Josh sang it to bring glory to the Lord and I am sure he would be hurt to see fans and others debating over who is right in their interpretation. This is one of those reverent songs that we should just let the Lord speak to us through as He sees fit.

Seems to steal away the deity of Christ. There was a little more to Christ's rightousness than the way he was raised, He is God afterall. No offense, but I find the song a little shallow and spiritualy lacking. Not every song that claims to be about Jesus is accurate or scriptural. All that said, Turner performs well the music is nice and I think the song was well written as far as the story line goes. I just don't think the song is accurate to the Jesus that I read about in the Bible.
When I first heard the song, I thought oh what a nice young man, grew a little "rebellious" when he was older, listened to his mother- how we all should, etc and then BAM! I was surprised when I realized they had been talking about Jesus. It changed the whole meaning of the song. No one is saying the only thing to Jesus is His manners but it does show how perfect and Holy He really is that He was willing to make that sacrifice for us.
this song is focused on the humanity of Christ. not only was Christ 100% God, he was also 100% man, Josh Turner is just emphasizing the fact that he was just like any other person, well physically that is. i hope that helps :)
@mortsey I would agree with you. It's cool the first time through like "Wait, what, this was about Jesus? I'm gonna have to look up that song when I get home!" But just pulled it up here to listen to it again...and went "Hmmm..." Like the part about him learning to pray at church - don't think so.
It's still a cute song though, and like mortsey said, Turner did well with it from an artistic standpoint.

Jesus wore sandals, was a carpenter, walked on water, made his disciples fishers of souls, was a good listener, wasn't sarcastic, was disciplined, taught in the synagogues, ate with sinners, he criticized the most religious people of that day, they said he broke the law by breaking the sabbath, never spoke wrongly of anyone, didn't like gossip, love everyone no matter what, was crucified on a cross, cleaned all our sins, rose from the dead.
Still love this song - probably my favorite from his "Everything is Fine" CD!!! I still try and play it everyday from my car CD player when in my car!!! This song does make you think if you listen to the words!!! This song will make you cry!!

it doesn't immediately make you think of jesus, which is good, because it reminds us that jesus was a man too. he was able to resist sin. why can't we?
What a beautiful song... through the begining of the song it reminded me of my childhood, reminding me that Jesus truly was human and walked and lived as we do. What a great way to portray the example of how we should live that was set for us by our savior.

When I first heard the song, I thought oh what a nice young man, grew a little "rebellious" when he was older, listened to his mother- how we all should, etc and then BAM! I was surprised when I realized they had been talking about Jesus. It changed the whole meaning of the song. No one is saying the only thing to Jesus is His manners but it does show how perfect and Holy He really is that He was willing to make that sacrifice for us.

this song is focused on the humanity of Christ. not only was Christ 100% God, he was also 100% man, Josh Turner is just emphasizing the fact that he was just like any other person, well physically that is. i hope that helps :)

@mortsey I would agree with you. It's cool the first time through like "Wait, what, this was about Jesus? I'm gonna have to look up that song when I get home!" But just pulled it up here to listen to it again...and went "Hmmm..." Like the part about him learning to pray at church - don't think so.
It's still a cute song though, and like mortsey said, Turner did well with it from an artistic standpoint.

@TheGodpleaser but can the two be separated? I think being one being Christ was mutually God and Man at he same time. Anthing else is double thing. He wasn't scitso with having god illusions when he got worked up. He was God all the time manifest in human flesh.

@mortsey i disagree. yess Jesus was indeed God and was probably more than this song lets on but technically God was his Father and therefore it was how he was raised.

Yer takin the wrong perspective of it mortsey, it aint all bout him, it aint supposed to be a full description or explanation of christ. Its meant to make you think, and make him relatable to the way we were raised. Its a great song with a great message.

Jesus wore sandals, was a carpenter, walked on water, made his disciples fishers of souls, was a good listener, wasn't sarcastic, was disciplined, taught in the synagogues, ate with sinners, he criticized the most religious people of that day, they said he broke the law by breaking the sabbath, never spoke wrongly of anyone, didn't like gossip, love everyone no matter what, was crucified on a cross, cleaned all our sins, rose from the dead.

Still love this song - probably my favorite from his "Everything is Fine" CD!!! I still try and play it everyday from my car CD player when in my car!!! This song does make you think if you listen to the words!!! This song will make you cry!!

My couzin was 36 and had cancer . SHE had 4 kids and a grand baby . her kids were singing this song and she was dieing and then she died and they was so scared and this song makes me think of her rest in peace shelia

What a beautiful song... through the begining of the song it reminded me of my childhood, reminding me that Jesus truly was human and walked and lived as we do. What a great way to portray the example of how we should live that was set for us by our savior.

josh turner has to be my favorite country artist. he put so much feeling in his songs he sings and hes got such a comforting smooth voice! all i have to do when im upset or stressed is listen to his voice and it calms me down instantly!! god bless!!
