  • Okay, I'm totally diggin this guy. I've really been looking for someone I can relate to that can help me improve upon my voice. I've taken lessons in the past & both teachers wanted to change my style. I love my style and didn't want to sing operatic or classical!

I sing in my church band & my biggest issue is throat tension. I can't wait to dig in to your videos!! Thanks in advance!! Jody

  • how can we know that we are singing by our diaphragm ? Is that we whole our body wil resonace ?

  • lmfao

  • hahahahah

  • Thanks! I never knew the right way to deal with mucus.

  • I really want to start singing but i cant due to my throat difficulties. I have to clear my throat all the time because of phlegm build up, which also affects normal voice, especially after i finish running. My voice isn’t hoarse or anything, i just produce a lot of phlegm. When i sing it doesn't feel or sound right. I’ll cough or drink room temperature water but the phlegm will just build up again. I’ve tried most remedies like honey and hot tea etc. Anyone have ANY tips please? Thank you

  • @Addoisfly its alot to do with your diet ive heard, lots of food produce it so try to keep away from stuff like: sugar cheese yogourts milk sweets chocolate all fizzy drinks flavoured water (citric acid) some fruits like lemons and oranges and other stuff, but im no proffesional, if you think its what your eating thats causing lots of phlegm ask a doctor or something or check on reliable sources on the internet.

hope that helps m8 i had the same problem and still do when i cant resist sweets lol

  • wow my little cuzin was looking at this wile i walked in the room and im like why are you watching porn sounds like there trying to sing lol

  • Erik, You da man!! No seriously.. I have a vocal singing teacher and when she gives me homework I just come on youtube and watch your videos. They help a lot man, RESPECT.

  • Heyy, Can you help me? Everytime I sing I can't do the really loud parts or the chorus. Like when Carrie Underwood goes into those really BIG and LOUD parts of songs, every time I try to do something like that, my voice goes out of tune and it gets pitchy and sounds HORRIBLE..lol WHY IS IT DOING THAT?! O.O D:

  • @Arlca I am sooooo glad that this caught you just in time!!!! Keep on singing! YW! =)

  • you sound like a monster haha!!thnx tho!!!

  • @thrashwillwin HA HA HA!!! U're welcome. =)

  • O_O im scared....

  • i think i saw your brain haha

  • Hey, thanks for posting this video, im kinda sick at the mo so this really helped :)

  • Hey Erik! Been watching some of your videos today and I must say you are a really great teacher!! This phlegm vid has been really helpful cos i've been having problems with that( i take too much milk...:-p...guess i'll have to scarp that now) Your lesson are right on point and really easy to follow...I love your videos! You're doing a fabulous job!!!!

    Lots of love from Nigeria...

  • @Ffireflies HEY!!! Thank you so much for that feedback! I appreciate that so much. I'm glad the videos are helping and that you've taken a liking to them. Phlegm used to really bring me down before a performance and I realized I wasn't clearing my throat properly. So this was a technique I learned and it's been workin' ever since. Nigeria?! WOW!!!! That is so amazing. Thank you for supportin' me!

  • @lloyd614 this is exactly what i needed

your seriously an awesome teacher i agree with the guy who commented above

seriously my voice seem way way way better and i can finally SING AGAIN

    thanks a lot ~~~

  • umm can i ask you somthing ok well everytime im trying to sing normaly and when its getting like a point when you need to sing higher my goes lke squeaky and when i try to sing in the middle like in the middle od normall and high but i cant seem to get it please help me auditions for me is coming soon!

  • @fantagesarah It sounds as though you are pushing from your chest. Even though chest-singing and belting is a great way to project. If you do it incorrectly, it will work against you rather than for you. Stick with diaphragm breathing and you'll never go wrong.

  • man..you're the real gangsta..keep it up man..:D :D

  • haha i was watching this video in my room and my brother just walked in and it was on 1:18 my brother was like. is he trying to sing opra or something. i'd explaim it what you were doing. haha

  • @Silviojameslojam that was funny.

  • Koo! Let me know how the audition goes!

  • Thanks a lot for this bit of information......I always seem to have phlegm at the back of my throat...lol. I always did what you told us in the video not to do...cough, splutter and try to clear it. Your 'sing through it' advice wil help me a lot...Thanks! - Kenny

  • I really appreciate how you even took out time, minutes before performance yourself, how you clear the throat well. I'm going with this method myself. Thanx again.

  • LOL!!! Glad I was able to save the day...(laugh)!

    ~E~

  • sir may i send you a record of mine then if you dont mind you can tell me what am i going to clear my voice.,.

  • please help erik!

  • Hey on this, I would continue doing scale exercises and "gradually" build your volume on the notes that approach that "whistling" point. Most importantly, make sure that you are staying "within" your range. Make sure that your falsetto is safe and not something that's damaging to your voice as well.

    ~E~

  • oh gosh, how would I know if it's damaging? :(, my falsetto is rather light. & effortless somehow, but I really do not know at times, if I'm actually hitting notes. or just, doing falsetto?, is singing all about notes? uhm, as for some falsetto notes, when it doesn't come out effortlessly, I'll push through it & it'll turn to a whistle frequency. Erik, do you know how david archuleta/ brian mcknight goes into their high notes? I think it's really cool. & alright, thanks so much too!

  • i'll keep working on the scales. I feel i'm getting your tone each time I do your scales :s. thanks so much erik.

  • & btw, is it okay to use vocal growl as a warmup? :s it seems like after doing it, I'll be able to do the opera notes. it's more like singing notes than words.

  • & as well, I do not know if I'm too loud or soft, I do not know, what's a standard volume required.

  • Erik, I think my vocals are damaged? :(,

I'm a boy, & it seems like instead of reaching falsetto, I'll always hit the whistle frequency, I don't want to push through the whistle. I wanna be precaution about it now, could you give me some tips? My voice is really, I don't know. It can get so low (just to be comfortable) & just middle in some songs. I wanna be a master in my middle range :(.

  • Great video!!:)

  • hahahahaha you were soooo funnyy i love youuu <3

  • thanks!

  • Hey E! Can you make a tutorial to naturally deepen your voice? My voice is a lil feminine and wanted to harden it a bit. Would you help me?

  • helps alot as any of your videos, you came from the sky dude.

  • Wow! Thanks so much. I appreciate that!

    ~E~

  • this made my day! funny and informative!

  • great vid bro thanks

  • you know what...I'm over hear about to bust my gut laughing...I'm pretty sure you didn't intend for this to be hilarious...sorry LOL

    TRAV

  • In round about ways, yes I did....LOL! Thank you for catching the vision.

    ~E~

  • wow i was just wondering about this today, you always read my mind. hahaa thank youu

  • Hey....glad I got this to you in time! =) U're welcome!
