  • Similar but slower sound to classic Toranaga. Check out sword of Damocles off the gods gift album. Primordial and toranaga both superb at what they do.

Death almost touched me the first time i heard this masterpiece!!

    Pure Perfection!! Epos!!

  • Somehow this song reminds me of the horrors in the Norwegian island of Utöya. Deeply emotional, sad.

  • Somehow this song reminds me of the horrors in the Norwegian island of Utöya.

  • One of the best songs I have heard in a long time. I just wished it was a bit better produced, I would've been blown away immediately.

  • Can't wait to see them live on Summerbreeze Festival

  • this has got fucking soul

  • yesterday on metalfest they were amazing!

  • listening to this with head phones you can hear the raw emotion of the song its just epic

  • Haunting, and especially relevant, as we watch it all unfold again...

Children of Éireann, do not apathetically bow, bow to the impending yoke of absolute tyranny! It will ache more profoundly than the final death-blow of the blade. It is better to starve free, than, live as a nourished slave,,,,

  • thats awesome i had almost given up on relying on ireland for good metal

  • @MetalRocks3 listen to waylander

  • the answer to this question is NOOOO! songs do not get any better.

  • Love this! So powerful and emotive! Knowing the history of the coffin ships makes it even more potent...the words too echoing the despair of the men, woman and children who endured, and who perished! Primordial are Bloody ledgend!

  • Best primo song

  • They somewhat inherit the epic atmosphere and aura of Barhory, I think.

True epic songs, perfect use of the voice, amazing lyrics, head up and concentration

on what they are most interested in, with no concessions to mainstream. Excellent band.

  • This was love at first listen

  • i love the drums.

  • Fucking Epic!

  • waiting for the next album, my hands are on my dick...

  • 8 people have uber mental deficiencies. This is awe-inspiring music!

  • wow!

  • Amazing

    Simply amazing

  • ImI ImI

  • i heard this song, for the first time a few days ago, and its been in my head ever since. - HAIL PRIMORDIAL

  • this song is one of reason why i always dress in black in mornings

  • @pArTyBOE82

hahahah! that`s a really nice reason... Totally understood! :)

  • hmmmmm... this is really good ! :O

  • This is just perfect, nothing else to say.

Hails from a mexican to Primordial and to Ireland!!!

  • i dont think there is a better written song that delivers a more passionate and powerful message then this...everything about this song couldn't be more perfectly executed

  • oh my god Oo

    I think i will cry

  • best primordial song ever

  • [It still hangs over Ireland and set the tone for Irish people to leave Ireland shores to the present day. The coffin ships themselves were what the ships that set sail for America in search of a new and better life were called. It's with this song we honour the memory of this great tragedy and those poor souls who lost their lives."]

  • HAILS FROM GREECE TO THE HOLY PAGAN LANDS OF IRELAND

  • Love it, music to sleep to

  • This song is beautiful

  • lol few months ago on TV they said that best Irish band would play. I immediately thought Primordial but it was U2. I was wtf. -.-

  • @K4rlud0n U2 are a disgrace to rock music, ireland and humanity in general

  • @coxonroxon i agree 100%

  • @K4rlud0n Well thats a given! I mean what did you expect? Everyone knows off U2. Seriously. I mean Primordial is no THAT big.

  • @PennyDreadful1 Yea I know the sad truth I wish they would :/ But have you ever seen Southpark Episode called "More Crap" :) ? It's about how Bono is the record holder of the biggest crap ever taken. Turns out in the end he's not the record holder but the record.

  • @K4rlud0n The wankers on TV have no taste, we know that!

  • does someone have tabs for this ?

  • @snuffying i found one, but unfortunately its a guitar pro tab =(

  • @iEatBassGuitars ah damn it X(

  • @snuffying I've figured out the tabs to this one. But there are still some parts where im not 100% sure if I've got them right (like 3:55-3:57). Some parts are difficult becouse there are multiple guitars playing.

I might upload a cover version and put the tabs online, but i'll have to find a decent camara to do this first.

  • @Nederrebel cool. please make one !! i am absolutely stunned by this one !!!

  • yyyyeeeaaahhhhhrrrrrhghggggg!!!!!!

  • simply AMAZING

    these guy's are GREAT

    Primordial 100%

    5 stars *****

  • @freackize no

  • Epic.

  • @davedorger Just a hunch big daddy, just a hunch.

  • @davedorger clearly im not american, primordial just make me proud to be irish

  • Every time I hear this song, it seems to get better. Love it :)

  • Éisteacht le Primordial féidir leat a bhraitheann an mothúchán ag teacht fríd i an t-amhrán, ach tá siad an banna ó Thin Lizzy a dhéanamh dom a bheith bródúil as Gaeilge, an oiread sin ionas gur scríobh mé an post seo i nGaeilge

  • @SetAbominae88 No love for My Bloody Valentine?

  • @TGHoplite nope, don't like them, i did leave out rory gallaher tho, that man was a legend

  • I love this :) It is so perfect.

  • anyone saying this is not the most emotional singing theyve ever heard is lying.

  • This is fucking amazing...im just captivated in this trans..true soul music.

  • This is in my top 3 of the best vocal deliveries of all time... You can virtually feel Alans pain as he sings. Stunning.

  • Just epic. It hits you straight to the heart...

  • Saw them yesterday. Blew me away. They even played the Dark Song. The Coffin Ships was no exception. It was without a doubt amazing

  • "Nerve and muscle, heart and brains

Lost to Ireland, lost in vain

So you pause and you can almost hear

The sounds, they echo down through the ages

The creak of the burial cart

    Here in humiliation and sorrow

    Not mixed with indignation

So one is driven to exclaim

Oh god, that bread should be so dear

    And human flesh so cheap"

  • Alan has voice, that's comparable only to an marching army, that is going to definitely kill and bury the dreams of paneurosocialismus. :]

  • i personally think Primordial are much more talented and versatile than Skyclad.

  • Wooooooooooow!

  • wonderful :)

  • such grieve in the voice..

  • Fantastic song! They are so natural sounding... and meaningful!

  • love Primordial, these lyrics are from the famine memorial in Skibbereen in county Cork, Ireland

    FUCKIN EPIC!

  • and my dreams are coming true...... 5/6 live in athens......

  • Exellent!!!

  • Beautifull...

  • 1845-1849... 3 million people lost........ and a country that's still in pain....

  • what?

  • Primordial reminds me of old school Bathory. So epic.

  • I've always thought that there was a big Bathory influence in their music.... good to know I'm not the only one \m/

  • Goosebumps.

  • Finally a band with some lyrics that are worth reading.

  • 2010 06 11they will perform in Lithuania :)

  • A song about the horrible starvation in Ireland during the 19:th century. The song is so powerful and emotional! One of the best song I've ever heard! Hope Primordial will play in Sweden soon!

  • We have lost more than can be fathomed. We are a fraction of our ancestors. Our language - we have been made to hate. Our souls - withered from birth with no voice to speak. Our people and land are scorched. Who will replenish? Primordial send the message. Are you listening?

  • Our ancestors in bondage, converted by fire and war and law, their culture stripped away and those who remembered it burned and drowned. On the ashes of old feast halls the church was built, the lies the spread against us, the blood libel accusations of the wicker man, the distorted realities. The lies they tell about sacrifice, Animals for food and clothing, Rus Ship Burial twisted to involuntary murder, honoring the vanquished twisted to gruesome mockeries in Christian parodies.

  • Do songs get better than this?

  • @racewiththefalcons No Sir, they do not. Fact!

  • @racewiththefalcons i think not :D

  • Stunning!

  • Anyway, Primordial is amazing. True poets of their time and deserve nothing but respect. They are definitely underrated in my opinion and I think over time more people will discover their gift.

  • they have been around for sooo long, but this surge of "folk" metal is defeatly bringing them to the spotlight. they deserve it.

  • Word, it's about time.

  • @Midvinterblot542 i just did

  • @Midvinterblot542

"Over time"? Bro, they been going since 1991, how long do you think it's gonna take?

  • @Midvinterblot542 yep lets hope this happens cos they deserve more fans

  • this is one of thier bests, without a doubt.

  • my favourite metal song...just poetry

  • Greatly and most melancholy honouring the deaths of this great tragedy, the great famine ravaging over Ireland. Beautiful song.

  • most beautiful song

  • awesome!

  • insane band

  • I saw them play this live in Worcester, near Boston.

There were tears in the front row. Absolutely beautiful.

  • Yeah and then Korpiklaani had to come on and kill the mood lol

I wish they'd come back, Paganfest didn' even come anywhere near were i live.

  • Korpiklaani is fun, but they have no depth. A good warm up band.

It's a shame the way the whole 'pagan metal' scene or whatever is being packaged and marketed these days. Fuck Nuclear Blast and their bullshit.

  • Yeah, fuck Nuclear Blast.

They have some good bands but it seems like they're always trying to get them to release one mainstream friendly single with an over glossed music video. Fucking money whores.

  • you have spoken from the bottom of my heart....such a shame

  • Tell me about it.

I can only like a select few Korpiklaani songs. Them and Finntroll kind of borderline ruin folk/pagan metal.

As long as nobody starts crying for them to perform with Linkin Park or something, I guess...

  • Not true, Korpiklaani has depth, more so their older material, especially Shaman. I agree that they're not half as passionate or as ingenious as Primordial, but still a good band with good values. Finntroll on the other hand, I don't think much of them. They seem to write music just for laughs.

  • I agree about Korpiklaani but i must disagree about finntroll. They are very origial and truly one of a kind, and have influenced the metal and folk music grately. Yes their music is for fun and why is that a bad thing? it makes you wanna get up and jump and enjoy life. If you ask me folk music should be like that, and most bands are... I respect Primordial but they don't have anything incommon with finntroll and should not be put in the same basket

  • Yeah, I agree with sunhasfade, Fintntroll kicks ass. It's the only extreme metal I listen to when I want to be in a good mood.

  • @Midvinterblot542

Finntroll does have a slight comedic edge, but they write with a love of folk music. They are a serious band, but folk music is about having fun. Letting go of all the shit that happened during the day and letting yourself go.

That's why it was such a hit with the Irish.

  • @floydiac

    Bah Finntroll uses keyboards.

    Skyclad is better and earlier.

  • @floydiac well said

  • @Herbstgespenst Thanks.

I am a lover of folk music...it is my heart and soul...My heritage. People trying to make it dark and serious miss the point altogether.

  • One of the best metal song ever made. Nemtheanga's organ is heart-rending, stong and very-very suggestive. 5 stars not enoght to describe how amazing this masterpiece!

  • So hard to see how these guys spawned from ireland of all places, I live in ireland, and its the most narrow minded, bend over and forced fed the shite on the radio, place to live when it comes to anything, not just music genres. This stuff is awesome :)

  • Along with Thin Lizzy they are the best metal bands to come out of Ireland. Fuck U2, lousy gits

  • what bout waylander and cruachan?

  • Both are really good but they also (imo) have albums that do not stand together as well as what Primordial has done.

  • Well, they are the best metalband from ireland. But saying that Thin Lizzy is metal is kinda mental. In a bad way...

  • Are you kidding? Thin Lizzy bridged the gap between hard rock and metal much like Blue Cheer or B.O.C. or Deep Purple. Hell they could even be compared to Sabbath for their riffs.

Of course you might just be a racist asshole who thinks that black people can't play metal.

  • You might be a... racist asshole who automatically thinks that everyone who criticizes something in which a black person was involved is racist. God damn it.

  • ROFL you're probably one of those Pro-nationalists who believes that everyone is better off with their own people right? And that anyone who wants multiculturalism is the REAL problem right?

  • You are correct my friend! U2 are phoney contrived tawdry fake passionless little shits, and it gets right up my nose when people describe them as "best Irish band" or whatever, they fucking suck! Primordial on the other hand, they are a band we can be proud of! And Thin Lizzy, regardless of whether people consider them a metal band or a hard rock band, are still the best thing weve ever produced (Alongside from Rory Gallagher) and deserve their place alongside the pioneers of the genre.

  • hey man! what about beer and gingers!

    upvote this comment.

  • Oh yeah, well that goes without saying!

  • you didn't upvote the comment why not

  • I tried to but couldnt????

  • i think the roots in celtic music with the black metal element work fucking amazingly together. i can quite easily see how these irish guys made primordial happen.

  • Well, we were due something great, post Thin Lizzy we had fuck all! Now we at least have some proper metal, and these guys had a huge part to play in that!

  • Saw Primordial live yesterday in Pellavarock, Lammi, Finland. Maybe the best live gig I've ever seen... Just.. Perfect.

  • yeah, i was at pagan fest in toronto back in april, they were pretty fucking epic there too

  • Me too. :D

  • Wish these guys would come to Australia some time, lol.

  • Some of the most emotional viking/pagan metal I've ever heard. This stuff gives me goosebumps every time I listen to it. Amazing, simply spectacular songwriting.

  • It's Celtic. Pagan yes, viking? GTFO!!

  • Epic and beautiful; the singer manages to get lots of strength and emotion and out of his voice, which I love to hear.

  • So magnificent.

    bleeds pride for Ireland.

  • I'll see them in August in Finland with Amorphis accompanied...

  • that's one hell of an epic tour

  • I have to just say Wow! I just found out about these guys and thus far I'm blown away by their music. Empire Falls, Gallows Hymn, Gods to the Godless and Coffin Ships have left me speechless.
