However one minor catch: a player must know his limits, i think if you had taken it 5 click slower, or if the conductor did so, then it would have been a HAIR clearer..
So difficult of a piece, yet it's not even Performer's ARCT level in Canada. It's only a Gr.10 Examination Piece, along with Solo de Concours by Messager.
i love this piece! i played a transcribed-for-band version when i toured europe, and it was a ton of fun! (i played bass trombone) i loved watching the soloist :-)
Yea,this should be called "theme and variation" he's missing the best variations which *cough* are harder to play than the ones he kept in, and there is no introduction. what the hell. If you want to hear this piece played masterfully in its entirety, get Martin Frost's album the pied piper of the opera. He even wrote a better cadenza at the end.
Negative comments are probably coming from those who have never played as soloist with an orchestra. Keep up the hard work. Bravo on your accomplishments at such a young age!
Nah, no way! :) This was written for the clarinet and suits the clarinet's catabile nature PERFECTLY, tonally and technically. I find all the brass versions (particularly euphos) to be a little muddy and usually played too fast to be clear and articulate - and before you say anything, I have heard David Thornton play this piece - it wasn't an amateur low-rate eupho player)
Actually I believe that was just the introduction was from an opera aria. The theme and variations was composed for the clarinet later. I did quite a bit of research on this piece when I was playing it years ago.
okay, to clarify my initial point, the theme and Maggiore were taken from Act I scene 7 of Rossini's La Donna Del Lago (Recitative and Cavatina: Oh quante lacrime finor versai) I presume the variations were written for clarinet. I don't claim to be an authority on the issue as I've never seriously studied this piece and have only played it for fun so you probably would know better than I would, but that certainly sounds like the theme being sung and not the introduction : )
can someone tell me or link me to where I can get this sheet music so I can buy it, I'm confused about the variations... i'm not sure if I'm searching for the right sheet music
Exactly. Playing really, really fast is not a substitute for actually playing the notes. He is a very talented clarinetist, but a little substance in place of the flash might be nice. Tongueing fast is a means, not an end. BTW, the title of this video probably ought to be "G. Rossini: Theme and Most of the Variations" (I guess the triplets in the first variation just weren't fast enough)
can someone tell me or link me to where I can get this sheet music so I can buy it, I'm confused about the variations... i'm not sure if I'm searching for the right sheet music
The edition for clarinet and piano is published by Oxford University Press. Do not confuse this with the "Variations for Clarinet and Small Orchestra" which is a different piece. The above performance leaves out the lengthy Inroduction and omits two of the variations. The whole piece is better than half again as long as this.
what i notice about him though, is that whenever it gets hard... with the arpeggio runs in a couple of places,he gets quieter when at those spots you should be crecendoing a bit..he does it because hes a little insecure about how its going to go and needs to be a little more powerful and confident.
Moi j'aime beaucoup. Et également tes deux autres vidéos. ciaoo ! Tu as quel âge ? How old are you ? Quanti anni hai ?
i entirely agree...Meyer's Nielsen for example was better than fröst, but for ALL the rest he is the best of the bests, sorry. Those who say he has a weird sound are just jealous ; this man has all : sound, musicality, and rhythm. And he is modern and a very sympathic guy.
i think that is horrible.you are good clarinetist, but the speed is not everything.and technique?in this speed..not too good.you can t hear it everybody?
well, i whonder why u called this performing Introduction, Thema and variations, because it's only the thema and variations played. too bad,the introduction is the most sensible and expressive part of this music piece.
On the other hand, i like your play, though if you would like to hear more critics :), u could think of improving your sound when u play at great speed.
About the rithm, i dont think frenchyfrogs lived at rossini's time to argue about the rythm. :) In concert, u do what u like.
i HATED the way he moved while he moved. I will probably get alot of yelling in here because of that, but, as an example, you don't see Martin Fröst or Charles Neidich move like that while they play, and their QUITE famous. It keeps the focus off playing, and on the body which is doing all these ridicolous movements. But on the positive side, very good dynamics, staccato and tonequality and centre. You can reach far.
I"m working on this write now for all-state auditions. he has wonderful tone quality and very good technique. I"m hoping i get up to this quality. I almost have the double c down! i'm excited. but anywayz wonderful job!
