@Desmonddd2002 Yes but it is a masterclass - analysing how the music should be played. Doing a masterclass without the score infront of you would be very difficult!
@joacosblues I think that it sounds like Michael but probably he said "master" which sounded Michael because of his chinese accent....at least I hope he didn't mistake the name...
How do they do to make the Beethoven's sonatas to stay in the same page? every time I try to read from the book is a mess, I prefer to study from fotocopies =D
Beethoven, I think, the piano sonatas represent, not only for the pianist, but for all musicians and music lovers something unique in his output, And maybe unique in the output of many other composers, you know it was Hans von Bulow who said that Bach is the Old Testament and Beethoven were the New Testament, but I don't want to imbue these works with religious significance. But I think what he meant by that was that this is the basis of our knowledge of music.
Masterclasses really should be more for less experienced non-professional pianists. What is the point of using professional pianists like Lang Lang and Biss who already are artists in their own right who play as well or better than Barenboim?
@BachScholar it's not about technique its about interpretation and understanding the philosophy behind the composer. Each will have their opinion Barenboim has been playing just a little longer than LL & has recorded all the Beethoven Sonatas twice. B's recordings of Beethoven have received wide critical acclaim for years. this is a great way to communicate to all the value of interpretation and understanding. Mentoring goes back centuries..
Whether or not one agrees with Barenboim's philosophy of interpretation, one cannot deny that he is brilliant musician with a deep understanding and appreciation for Beethoven. This is great stuff.
Umm....Are you serious? Michael Barenboim is the Argentinean pianst/conductor who's giving this masterclass...... You know, that guy sitting at the end of the piano teaching? lol

So Barenboim memorized all sonatas by Beethoven while Lang Lang has to use the score. Shame on him lol.

I think Lang Lang should do chinese opera instead of the piano. His facial and body acrobatics are a real distraction to the music.
