Stortini is the biggest pussy in the league. Orr does always beat Cote, but Cote doesn't lose to everyone in the league. He beat Peters, McGratton, cut Fritz badly, owned Mike Rupp every time they have fought. Let's see he beat Boulton twice, won and later tied against Jody Shelley, beat Leblond, and TKO'd Andre Roy. Plus fights of year in 2007-2008 was Thornton Cote in a draw not once, but twice. The guy is a good fighter, but Orr is better hands down. Those are the facts.

At some basic level, most hockey players have to know how to at least defend themselves. I think Wayne Gretzky had about 3 career fights, so even if you're there to score, you're probably going to run into a scrap somewhere down the road. That said, some players will fight more than others. These generally include 3rd or 4th liners (ie "hitting lines") and power-forwards, because they're more physical, defensemen, because they have to protect the goalie, and of course, enforcers.

I would say that the way that the NHL and many other leagues are like today, that every player should learn to fight just so that then they could have an advantage because they could stick up for themselves and be confident in their ability to fight. I don't think though that any players should be told that they have to fight, but that it is recommended that they learn how to fight.
