  • hahah that is really cool!!!

  • press 3 over and over, its cool

  • woww, I love at 0:11 can gymnasts still do that?

  • @emmawozere2006 I don't think so because it disrupts the rhythm as they have to stand on the high bar.

  • @ParanoidAndroidDA awww :( i love all the original aspects of these routines!

  • @emmawozere2006

yes but only on the low bar and it's called a soul circle haha

  • @iamsatin123 soul circle, hahaha. SOLE CIRCLE :)

  • @pamnesiac

lol IMSORRY WHO KNOWS THE DIFFERENCE LOLOLOL

  • too many mistake, oh boy

  • I don't think those moves are even used anymore!

  • Gymnastics these days is harder...

  • That gave me the chills...AMAZING!!!

  • nadia was no match to this butterfly OLGA KORBUT but judges ruined her morally in 1972; i sobbed then and i sob now but i love OLGA

  • OMG!!!!! THAT WAS AMAZING!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • The uneven bars today are a lot farther apart, the transitions are not nearly as spontaneous, and is a lot "safer"....... But a lot more boring too.

  • if only level 5's could have her front hip cast..(;

  • What year did gymnasts stop bending their legs around the low bar when hanging on the high bar?

  • nowadays they would have found plenty of execution deductions to take!

  • why are current routines soo sifferent?

  • @marcelle215 Sometime after the 1984 competitive season the bars were moved a greater distance from each other. You can't bounce your lower body off the low bar anymore, instead gymnasts move back and forth between the high bar and the low bar (which tends to get neglected.)

  • @MelleAndKev I knew that...I just seems that less risks seem to be taken now on the uneven bar routines. I was just wondering if new rules were added to decrease the chance of injury.

  • Thats fucking crazy..

  • Interesting how both Olga and Nadia gained a lot of weight after their famous respective year in the olympics. That's the downfall of becoming famous, you don't have time to train anymore.

  • i'm not a gymnast, but it seems to me, gymnastics is probably one of the hardest sports out there!

    this is amazing! :D

    (i'm a tennis player. that's the second hardest sport. ;D )

  • missed

  • Bring back the OLD STYLE! I am tired of cookie cutter gymnasts GAH! :)

  • @Yuri92001 I AGREE!!!!!

  • So much different than today. More creative and unique, but less physically challenging and less pushing the boundaries of what typical mankind can do.

  • this routine is soooo scary :))))

  • What did she place on this event? Unless that is a mistake with that bit of stalling on the low bar, I would think that this would beat Theodora Ungreanu's routine.

  • @MTVMANN the stalling on the low bar is a mistake. i've seen her AA bars routine and she only went back and forth once and then went right back up to the high bar

  • @MTVMANN i know i've already posted a reply but here:

look up olga korbut 1972 olympics bars

whoever posted it labeled it wrong, it is of Olga in 1976, i just don't know whether it's the all around or team comp

anyway she performs her routine flawlessly there

  • WoW!! she is really great

  • Yea everything was better in the olden days, societies and sports were much better also :(

  • she gained alota weight since 1972.

    in 1972 she was unbelievable.

  • yeah the old routines were wayyyyyyyyyyy better!

  • priceless!!!

I wonder if there is anyone here, who doesnt argee that she deserves gold!!!!

  • OMG SHE IS SO GOOD!

  • Yelena Mukhina is much better than her. This is kinder garden compare to Yelena. But still good.

  • she's not as good as nadia

  • Comment removed

  • Insane. Gymnastics is the best Olympic sport(s).

  • that was really really good.. at gym we're now working on the front circle :)))

  • superb!!!!

  • Yeah. I prefer 1972, this is still heart stopping though.

  • i could wacth old gymnastics videos all day! Its so much more entertaining then (well at least UB)

  • hmm, that was very good.. but i prefer the 1972 one, myself.

  • amazing dismount!

  • at 0:12 - 0:17 what is the move called

  • korbut

  • korbut flip but its banned now beacause it was thouf=ght to be too dangerous

  • woww gymnastics was amazing back then..what happened to its beatiful charm? :[

  • @IFlipxo96 it probably died with the compulsories :(

  • @IFlipxo96 blame USGF and FIG. They're the ones who decided how gymnastics should be. I am upset at the changes myself. I loved the gymnasts from the 50's to the 80's. After 1990 gymnastics was losing it's beauty.

  • @queerfish1 yes, gymnastics is losing its beauty. but i am still in it on a level 7 almost 8. i still love it even though it is losing everything that has made it what it really is. in the 60's the bar routines were amazingly difficult. my favorite gymnast still to this day is Nadia. She was and will always be the power and height of the strength and beauty of gymnastics.

  • @queerfish1 how is this the fault of USGF??? they have nothing to do with the scoring change or how gymnastics is run. The scoring change went into effect because of a score gotten in the 2004 Olympics by Aleksei Nemov, not because of anything the US did.

  • @IFlipxo96 ummmm not much.it is still beautiful

  • She did better in 1972, but this still amazing, olga was the best in the 70's!!!

    lovely routine

  • the girls of today cannot do this because the bars have been spaced so far apart now. Shawn Johnson already has a disadvantage and has to work really hard on bars because she is a tiny lady.

  • @usa8056

talk about he kexin and deng linlin, they're even shorter

  • that was fricken amazing! why can't any of the girls do this kind of stuff now? All the routines I see now are boring and seem pretty safe. I mean, there are some moves that are alright but in general, I am not pleased. They're all the same moves over and over.

  • @WhyAreTheyBlinking i totally agree. when they got rid of the compulsories after the 1996 olympics they ruined the sport imo. there is no originality, no artistry and it looks like people stopped thinking about the form and started to think more about power and difficulty instead of power and difficulty combined with artistry and originality.

  • @mrsTorrard88 I know right? I think it should be an option to move the bars closer together so that if you want to do a routine like Olga's you can. The Olympic Gymnastics have gone to waste, for sure.

  • they give her 9.5 for this routine

  • maybe becaose of that pause at 0:16

  • @irafa2 like williespade said it was because of the loss of rhythm at one point but she got deducted way to much even though in these days it was still all about rhythm especially weird because nelli kim got the same score for falling off the bars : /

  • Question to all gymnastic experts: what's the name of the move where she is standing on the high bar and doing a flip backwards catching the high bar again? Looks kind of scary!

  • That's her own move, a Korbut flip. Not to be confused with her Korbut flip-swingdown on beam.

  • then what is a Korbut flip-swingdown?

  • A back flip where you catch the beam with your hands and your legs straddle the beam.

  • Its the korbut flip

  • Its called the Korbut. It was named after her because she was the first to do it. It's banned now....to dangerous, they say.

  • amazing

  • well i thought it was so controlled and so incredible...almost as good as her 1972 performance...like the 72 better =) she's amazing though

  • its sad now that gymnastics is more about power and tubling ability more than grace like it was back in the 70's and 80's. its still really fun to watch now. but it just kind of makes me sad when olga does her backflip on beam and there all like :wow thats incredible!! hardly anyone can do that" when now its like most olympic gymnasts can do that and much much more

  • When I see Olga at this Olympics, her face looks so strained and sad. I think she was all used up & exhausted by then & in alot of pain from injury. She paid alot for being the used to develop a new style of gymnastics, even if it did make her world famous.

  • u all sound lik haters

  • she got stuck.

  • they used to do that stomach thing on the low bar, that must have hurt a lot.

  • I like this exercise, especially how 1 skill flows into the next. She got a little stuck on the low bar, but I like watchin Olga on bars more than any other event!

  • i always thought she did get stuck on the low bar but then later i think it was part of the new routine. cos in 1972 she had the flip then transition to the low bar back to the high bar. i think she changed that part in this olympics.

  • OMG i love this girl!!! she is amazing i wish i could do that =]

  • belle loves gymnastic

  • thats almost scary...did u see Nadia's routine that scared me!!!

  • I've never quite seen anything like this.

  • but a gymnast could get hurt on almost all of the skills

  • wow that was amazing shes pretty hot as well

  • This should have been a ten.

  • Almost. She insisted and balanced too much at second 12. I'd say 9.95

  • She took an extra swing at 0:17 too and during the swing her legs came apart.

  • gymnastics is so convention today. you would never see a girl stand on the high beam and flip off of it today. is it because of the judges or are the stunt they perform to dangerous. ( i also think the bars were closer together)

  • You're right, the bars were much closer together.

  • 1.) Standing on high bar is banned.

2.) Yes, you are right, the bars were wayyyy closer together.

3.) Gymnastics skills now are much more dangerous now. I mean, a double twisting double layout dismount is pretty dangerous to me.

4.) Gymnastics back then was so much more about grace and dance, now it is like this on floor:

    Dance a little

Double layout - stuck landing and then continue dancing a tiny bit like nothing broke your rhythm

its all choppy and robotic cept for a few gymnasts.

  • I agree - a lot of the time i wouldn't even call it 'dance'. more like, strike a few poses 3/1 spin - pose - leap - pose - tumble etc etc. gymnastics has lost it's charm.

  • those old routines are so cool!! are they easier or harder than the new ones? i wouldn't know, im not a gymnast. but i can tell that the gymnasts back then could do these moves because the bars were closer together. nowadays they're far apart so they can swing their whole body through, but obviously can't do these moves where they catch their hips on the low bar.

  • They're definitely harder,

Her first release is named after her, but is now banned.

  • that's sad :( she was a great gymnast!

  • why is it banned?

  • Comment removed

  • Because a gymnast could break their neck if they do it wrong.

  • you really can't say they are more difficult.

to us, a transition from high bar to low bar that they did in the 70's would have been extremely hard and to them, a very commonly seen Pac Salto would be extreme.

    the two times are incomparable.

  • you are so right.plus i'm sure bars in the 70's had to be pretty painful :S

  • You can't really say which is "harder". There different types of hard.

  • Holy crap those were killer moves but her legs werent strait.

  • cant believe that she's 21 right there!

  • I liked her 1972 routine better.

But I miss her and Nadia.

    They were awesome! ( :

  • Go to this link in you tube and see how something similar happened to her in Munich 72: watch?v=wF40nzErqC0

  • apperenty she is the girl who stondded the world with that routine, that is amazing and it would olf hurt!

  • wow.i MISS the old times.especially NADIA and OLGA!!:D

  • i think olga's back flexibility was the key to her sucess.

  • routines were so much better in the old days, they were different and had a much higher wow factor. theyre not as interesting now though D=

  • I couldn't agree more. I really miss watching performances like Nadia's and Olga.

  • @BayBeeGymnast no kidding! i didnt think this was real! haha but i bet a lot of people got hurt

  • @BayBeeGymnast I AGREE. SHE INSPIRED ME TO DO GYMNASTICS.

  • Well, it seemed like no body noticed her tiny cover up :( She did look like an old ladycoming into those games, poor girl.

  • wow!

she almost does like...a back handspring onto the bar and off the bars!

  • how similar are the routines in those days? it seems that Nadia, Ludmilla, and Olga have the same UB routine.

  • ????

No two routines were alike in those days. Nadia, Ludmilla and Olga had entirely different release moves. Only major skill (in those days) shared was Nadia and Ludmilla's full turn release skill on the high bar. Of course Nadia's came after her Comaneci Salto...so entirely different.

Watch some 70's and 80's UB routines - you will see!

  • Same? Nadia's was totally different!

  • Nadia's was MUCH different. Take a look at all of her twists and turns!

  • i just realised that it was the Olympic thing...was it the compulsories or the team event that they had to do the same routine i was referring to. :P

  • perfect! WOW!

  • best bars routine ever! nadia was great but i always thought olga's bars routine was better.

  • she just missed her signature move of doing a roll on the smaller bar then moving back to the bigger bar from the back.. but o well in this particuler olympics nadia was untouchable..

  • Yeah - not to mention how much more difficult a Comaneci Salto is...30+ years later, it is still an E skill.

  • what is a thoams salto?

  • A 1 3/4 flip, with 1 1/2 twists.

  • It's a move on floor. You basically flip in the air as described above and land in a forward roll (not on your feet).

  • so different from our routines, I want to do the backflip then catch the bar thing.

  • oh my gosh!!!!what a great fantastic exercise!!!such fluid and grace!!!i wana do a backflip now!hehehehe...those good old days are still the best!the kids today just do tumblings that look so robotic!!!!

  • Wow! How unusual!

  • Bloody fantastic.

  • now why don't we see moves like this in todays olympics? and why are the bars so close?

  • the spaces between the high and lower bars have gotten larger so they arent as close. Some of those moves are impossible now unless someone is like 5'11 lol

  • WOW i cant believe someone can do that!!!!!!!

You just have to love it!!!

  • holy crap that was so beast

  • love it!

  • arent some of these moves illegal now for competition?

  • i think they are. the dismount in itself is totally unsafe.

  • I believe anything that involves standing on the high bar is now banned, right?

  • Oops that was supposed to be a reply to someone else :)

  • well the bars are farther apart now so you jump to the bar instead of like hip swinging to it.

  • we dont do that anymore! thats like old school...lol

  • why not? theses exercises seem more jumpy and amazing than today !

  • The 7.50 she scored (UB) in Munich was because she had a huge mistake with a very basic move. Go and see for yourself, the poor girl was truly devastated.

  • They wouldn't take off 2.5 full would they? I saw the mistake..but..it seemed alittle...extreme.

  • Extreme, yes, but IMO that deduction would be standard for a mistake like that.

  • se mamooo

  • how is that even possible!?

  • what a fascinating performance. I've never seen anybody do a standing backwards somersault on the uneven bars before. it's interesting to see how differently gymnasts performed back then.

  • yelena also did olgas signature backflip

  • Do you mean Yelena Mukhina? Yes; but she added a full twist to it.

Too bad she became a quadraplegic the way she did...

  • she didnt get paralyzed b/c of that move i think it was something else.

  • I didn't say she got paralyzed by that particular move.

The "Thomas" salto is what paralyzed Yelena Mukhina...

  • Its not specifically the Thomas Salto that paralyzed her. Although she was performing that move when the accident happened but the problem was that she was training heavy while having a unrecovered knee injury from a surgery done just a couple days prior to the accident that led her tp be paralyzed.

  • I wasn't talking on technicalities; but if you choose to, then yes, it was exactly the reasons you stated that paralyzed Elena Mukhina.

NB: I, from reading past stories on Elena, think it was actually a broken leg that did her in... I could be wrong though, so I'd advise you to take it with a grain of salt, lol. ;)

  • You are correct Dunntosh. She was recovering from a broken leg - that wasn't even fully healed before the cast was removed. There was a rush by her coach to get her on the Olympic team. Due to her poor showing in 79 - she probably wouldn't have made that team anyway! Such a shame.

  • dang!!!!!!! that was good!!!

  • She got a 9.75, not a 7 something to whoever said that. She got deducted for the extra swing on the low bar (following her move).

1/2 of these moves (like belly beats) aren't done anymore because the bars have expanded in the last 30 years. You wouldn't be able to touch your stomach to the bar unless you were like...7 feet tall.

  • she only got a 7.5 on this routine

  • are you sure? that seems awfully low

  • yah i saw it on her website

  • its true. that happened to many moves, like ending in rolls tumblings for women in FX.

  • Yes, you can see the mistake, it's pretty bad. She does her famous back somersault off the high bar and does a free hip around the low bar, she is supposed to reach back and catch the high bar like she did in 1972. She misses it and kind of swings under the high bar for a few seconds to get back on track.

  • Olga scored a 7.50 for her Olympic AA bar routine in Munich '72.

  • o i made a mistake then

  • y is everyone giving me thumbs down

  • Aw but that looks really cool.. it would look dull otherwise :S

  • yout would think its bad for your organs lol. jabbing your stomach around a wooden pole? ow much!

  • was that a mistake on the low bar near the begining?

  • i think it was!

  • Why have the exercises been changed? Today are different

  • because they found out it was bad for your oragins to hit the low bar like that!

  • i swear some still do it dont they occassionaly but rarely...they havent banned it have they?

  • i dont think its banned! but only few people do it

    <
