  • im a bombers bloke myself but credit to where it;s due

Brisbane 2001-2004 was one off the great AFL/VFL teams ever

  • i just brought thre brisbane lions victory pack dvd carnt wait to get it delivered

  • god, how i love the lions!

  • what dvd is that off /

  • @woody123986 This clip was taken from the VHS version of "Lion Kings", the Brisbane Lions 2001 highlights package. Strangely the Leigh Matthews "If it bleeds...." quote was not included on the DVD version.

  • Lynchy kept falling over haha.

  • IM an Essendon fan but i admit i thought we cuda beat Brisbane in 2001 grand final and were going to but after half time they flogged us much fitter stronger n they were very underated then that year and they won the next 3 grand finals n cuda won a 4th. They won 16 games in a row to claim the flag in 2001 impressive i loved it when they beat collingwood twice in a row :) Brisbne r mi second favourite team. They were far better than essendon of 99-01 they were good from 2000-2004

  • @astra686

they wre innaccurate in the first half, 5. 10 to 8. 6 told the tale, the lions should have been in front, they led at quarter time and three quarter time.

essendon were lucky to have been in the game at quarter time with the lions been 3 goals 7 behinds,

    thats how good they were

  • "LETHAL!!"

  • u were fit and firing as u were expected to win

u were favourites and the lions were underdogs, right before the game as thew national anthem was sung one of the commentators post match comments was, look at the size difference between the two teams, good god, lions will win this

and sheedys words before the game were we will see who bleeds this time

so it all pointed to cockiness and arrogance

lions were never going to lose after 15 straight games

    and innaccuracy kept u alive

  • brisbane were far better and if essendon had a fully fit side it still wouldnt have mattered

listen to the commentators at the start of the national anthem

brisbane are by far so much bigger, they are going to win.

it was as simple as that, and their innaccuracy 5 goals 14 and akers 2 posters, should have been 4 goals up.

not too mention as a crows point of view would have loved to have seen u guys vers a fully fit kouta in season 2000 a repeat of 1999 prelim final

    might have knocked u agai

  • got this on dvd. dickheads it was 2001

  • im the stats man.

essendon were up by 20 points with a minute to go until halftime.

    alastair lynch marked and goaled.

the halftime margin was 14 points.

  • exactly jasexxxxx.

talk about a side going into yet another grand final (1990) under sheedy depleted, shot, injured and on our knees.

both sides fully fit...no one would have beaten us that year.

brisbane got lucky....just like they did the following 2 years when they beat a team that was very light on for talent

  • You're one year out.

2000 was the year that Essendon lost only one game against the Dogs in round 21.

  • get your facts straight

  • your wrrong mate it was year 2000 when that happened lol

  • dogs beat essendon in 2000 not 2001

essendon won the flag in 2000

    if ur a brisbane supporter

ud know brisbanes hatrack started in 2001 and stopped in 2003.

sorry for correcting you but you should know that :P

  • I Still rekon essendon should of won 2001. Considering at half time we were up by 24 points!!

But oh well good job for the lions for believing in themselfs!

  • We were injury depleted. And with that Brisbane were just a better team.

    Simple as that.

If we weren't injured, the outcome may have been different in the end.

  • Well, the Lions can only beat the team that is put out on the field. Simple as that.

  • @Jasexxxxx they beat u that year at home with ur team fit and firing

if not for innaccuracy in the first half especially the first term they would have annihilated u

secondly u were gutless in ur last round against the tigers, dropping that game in the hope to avoid the blues the following week, they had accounted for u twice that year and were gunning for a third consecutive week.

u made the grand final on the default of playing easy beats richmond in the first week of finals

  • @thegreekboy4800 Your logic is bullshit. We would have finished 1st either way. If Carlton wanted to finish 4th, then perhaps they should have won more games. Tough luck for them. That's the way footy goes.

Secondly, Essendon were NOT fit and firing, we were FAR from fit. Injuries everywhere. If anyone was fit, it were the Brissy players. Simple as that.

But there is no denying that Brisbane we're a good team. Had the luck of playing the Colliwobbles though, 2 gifted premierships followed.

  • @omgitslukky07 no its pure fact

ur argument is the language that donkeys rather speak

we beat u twice and u dropped the game in round 22 everybody knows that.

tough luck to u, u guys were the losers on the day, serves u right and poetic justice for chickening out to play us.

brisbanes inaccuracy in the first half kept u alive and gave u the lead, sheedys words before the game were we will see who bleeds this time, cocky and no talk of doubts with injuries had egg on hid face final siren

  • in the grand final you mean?

the 2001 grand final..when essendon were up by 10 points at half time?

  • What? were they really? i swear we were up by more.....

  • Grand Final

    Bris Lions 3.7 5.10 11.12 15.18 (108)

    Essendon 3.2 8.6 9.8 12.10 (82)

    thats 5.10 (40) vs 8.6 (54) at half time. so i was 4 points off :P

  • Oh well fair enough, seemed like more at the time....

Still i believe we should of won that game and the year

  • @awesomerebel88

ten shots to 5 in the first term in brisbanes favour, now imagine the lions converted properly in the first term, they should have been another 3 goals up thus letting essendon back in the game in the second term, but they were so classy that it didnt matter, they were fit and nstrong enough to continue on in the third term, to have 33 shots at goal suggests they were unlucky to not have kicked 20 goals and crush the dons.

  • @theboxmike

the blues were injured in 2000 with the great kouta going down with injury, u guys were not good enough in 1999 and u were not good enough in 2001

the lions were unlucky not top be in front

    bad kicking 5 goals 10 to 8 goals 6

    how many posters

at the first change they were 3 goals 7

had they kicked straight the result would have been different at half time

they hadnt even got started that game before they ran over u in the third term.

ur holding on to false hope

  • if we bet brisbane in the preliminary final, then we would have easily won the premiership considering essendon lost by 50 or so points!!!!

  • Good old Lynchy.... celebrating a goal and stacks it. Haha.

    The man is a legend.

  • rained goals for 3 years. awesome time.

  • Great video mate.

These are the words that launched an entire footballing dynasty.

  • And the principle that always ends one...

But easily the best team of the past 50 years

Only Melbourne can challenge that title, with premierships in 55-57, 59 and 60. Should have won 58 really...

BUT given salary cap and drafting, it's a greater feat today.

  • no sorry but 7 grand final in a row puts hawthorn as the best in the past 50 years, we won four out of the seven, and again two years later, so bribane is the second best, don't u just hate facts

  • Hawthorn made the most of a no-salary cap era and no-draft era.

Within 5 years of the draft taking effect, Hawthorn's dominance started slipping away.

Within 3 years of finishing wooden spooner, Brisbane was able to win the premiership, and three in a row.

In which case, I could argue Melbourne from 55-60 was better. 5 premierships in 6 years.

I love facts, but I hate bias.

  • r u kidding me, i think you mean collingwood, carlton and the kangaroos, not hawthorn dumbass, we gave up talent we had so much of it, had to get rid of ablett because we had a more consistant forward in dunstall. get your facts straight before telling everybody bullshit

  • No, get your facts right.

Hawthorn did not get rid of Ablett because of Dunstall. Ablett was NOT a full forward. He was a winger/half forward. Also, Ablett was discarded after 1982. Dunstall did not debut until 1985.

The first draft was held in 1986. The only top-notch player Hawthorn has had since then is Shane Crawford.

None of the backbone of Hawthorn's 80s team was not drafted. They had a strong zone, or they bought their players. Uneven playing field.

  • By 1991; Hawthorn's last premiership, no Hawthorn players made the All-Australian team.

After that year, Hawthorn did not win a final until 2000, finished 15th in 95 and 97.

So don't abuse me and say I should learn my facts. You have said NOTHING factual. That spiel about "axing Ablett for Dunstall" shows you know nothing about your own club, let alone two of the great players of the 90s.

What talent did you give up? Russell Morris to St Kilda, Wallace to Richmond and Eade to Brisbane? Wow...

  • I would respect you if you had manners, but I can't because you're rude and completely stubborn.

I really like being proven wrong when talking football with polite and knowledgeable people, but when I am abused by a know-all 25 year old (O'll be 25 in July) who is biased and obnoxious, as well as wrong.

Collingwood went down before the draft.

Post-draft, Kangas won 2 flags, Carlton 2 flags and Collingwood 1 -even with Hawthorn.

So rather than abuse me, talk to me as an adult.

  • Hawthorn won 3 flags after the draft sorry, but that team was essentially the mid-80s team with a few additions.

My argument was that with the modern day restrictions, Brisbane can cleam superiority.

Between 1967 and 1983, only 4 teams won the flag.

Since 1990, 12 teams have won the flag.

It shows that it is harder to dominate today, which is what happened in the competition before the draft. Yet, Brisbane managed to win 3 in a row and make a 4th Grand Final.

  • btw people, I am not a Brisbane supporter.

    I'm a cats man.

  • yes i totally agree with u

  • Thanks for the support.

It doesn't make me right though...only an opinion.

Add on; Ablett was not discarded by Hawthorn. He left Hawthorn (was still listed in 1983, but was playing in Myrtleford).

  • mate it woz 2001

  • great video only problem was it was 2002

  • Nope, it was 2001.

You are probably getting confused with the "No Rules" match in 2002.

  • It was 2001 when Essendon began the season well (not as well as 2000, but still they were 2nd to Hawthorn, who won 8 straight).

Leigh Matthews knew he had a good team and wanted to put pressure on Essendon, although it could backfire potentially.

As history now shows, it signalled the start of a great era.

As I said, the best team of the past 50 years due to the draft and salary cap restrictions.

    No bias here :P

  • How good was Alistiar lynch?

  • and the rest is history...
