The movie is about finding your freedom, this ending is a happy ending in a way they are free, they may be dead, but spiritually their still with us, the amazing camera shot of the car flying off, looks like the cars still driving in mid air, the ending was made like this as they wanted to see the car going up, not going down. The music is so perfect the choir is clearly saying "Wake me up", the bit that makes you cry is when they join hands and the noise of some choir makes a angel like noise.
The end of this film does something weird to me....it makes me cry but I smile as well..it's like "Oh shit they drove off"...but also..."hey they're free now!"
@mauwarrior thats wat i said if they liveds then uknow cause there is some other vids where it shows them landing and drivin off so idk but its watever
No documentário O Lado Secreto de Hollywood, a atriz do cabelo ruivo, que eu não me recordo o nome, falou que entre as duas, existia amor. Achei super fofo *-*
Like all great films, this climax leaves you moved for days after seeing it. It doesn't happen often, so treasure it when it does. Brilliant film making.
@21shergar Because I have recently fallen in love with this movie, I am unable to really be pleased by any other movie I see. Your comment seems to imply that you know of other films that are capable of having such an impact on ones life. Would you mind naming a few of them, please? Thankyou very much.
What's the name of the song after they drive off and the car stops in mid air. You hear a choir, I love that song. Then it stops when different scenes are shown. Thanks
this movie changed my life <3 but did anyone else feel bad for that really nice cop guy that wanted to help them? he was the only nice gy in the film and they wre like "fuck you!" (not litterally)
so it may not have changed my life drastically, but they're bond was very insprational. its just one of those movies that strikes your heart in a way that youll never feel the same after seeing it. kinda like the notebook and the titanic, the story is just so amazing that you never quite be the same. or like watching the sandlot and saying "i wanna play baseball!!" immediately after even though youre horrible at sports. ya kno? and my friend and i are planning a cross country trip one day lol
It would be right up there with having a dynamite stick in your intestines... it would hurt - but only for that fraction of a second until your body is incinerated
I didn't see it as a feminist offering; what's the point of strong femininity that drives itself off a canyon? It was a bittersweet tale of two ladies desperately seeking relief from the tedia of their everyday lives, that's about it.
YER! the whole thing is based around a true story of friendship that was preserved in a diary of their trip and their run-away from the police! i thought you knew that!
this scene's always made me cry. it just shows how much a friend is disposed to do as long as the other's happy... i just wish they hadn't died...they shot the guy fir personal defence...if only they'd listend 2 the FBI guy..i cn't believe this actually happened in real life..."..lets keep going" =-(
This was such a bittersweet moment. The very first time that I saw this movie, I cried hard at the end. They stayed friends up until the very end, even taking their own lives together. Now thats a damn FRIENSHIP!
hey, i was wondering if anyone could possibly tell me what the title and name of the artist who composed this song in the ending credits of the film. it is so nice. goes so well too
HANS ZIMMER CD available called ON THE WINGS OF A FILM has the theme music of THELMA AND LOUISE ON IT AND PLENTY MORE TOO. Excellent CD available from ZAVVI OR HMV online
wow - for me, there's a number of things that makes this scene so great... the music, Harvey chasing after them (it almost looks like a wave...) and that tire spinning in the dirt. All this combined with their holding hands makes this just so powerful, and so sad. A fantatic original ending to an amazing film. Bravo Ridley Scott and Callie Khouri!
I cried for 20 minutes straight the first time I watched this movie. I went into this movie not knowing anything about it and it really took me for a ride. At the end when the Polaroid they took at the start of their trip flies off, it always gets me.
i think this ending is very similar to vanishing point the 1997 version both very sad but this one wins

The Shawshank Redemption may have the same effect; The Green Mile, too. But this one's a real mover.

The key to a good movie is how it makes you feel the first time you watch it.
As well as this film, the climax of The Shawshank Redemption moved me also. Try Beaches too.
But this one is in the lead.
